Apr 27, 2013 - San Antonio, TX - Potters Creek COE

It was a pleasant 230 mile trip from east of Houston to Canyon Lake, TX which is about 40 miles north of San Antonio. It would have only been 222 but I missed a turn and it took 8 miles to get the Mothership turned around and back on course! We are staying at Potters Creek Park which is a Corp of Engineer campground and one of our favorites. We have 50 amps, water and a dump on the way out. Verizon is good and the roof antenna picked up the satellite - life is GOOD. Shortly after arriving we drove into San Antonio to visit with Doris'...

Feb 18, 2013 - Reunions, wrecks, and...

It’s February… a month earlier than we’d planned to head to Canyon Lake, and our next stop: Walnut Canyon RV park. I say a month early, because my exhaustive research on the “interweb”, told me that December, January, & February are the worst months for the mountain cedar pollen we were hoping to avoid. So far it hasn’t been too bad, a sneeze… or twenty, in the mornings. Driving south into the hill country, the weather was Spring-like, and we began to see all the familiar signs of home: Old rusty barns with “Bar-B-Q” painted on the roof,...

Sep 12, 2012 - Home

September 9 Our rally hosts made pancakes for everyone before some of us packed up to leave. There are others who plan to stay one more night and then travel to another fiberglass trailer rally. One is in Arkansas and another one in Colorado. We were supposed to attend the Colorado rally, but had cancelled because of the refrigerator. And now with my back problem, it’s a good thing we aren’t going. We drove south and are staying outside of Oklahoma City. September 10 It was a slow drive day today. We are spending the night at Dinosaur...

May 24, 2012 - Our Trip Begins

May 23rd We started our trip this morning on a bright, sunny day. Our destination is Osoyoos, British Columbia for the Escape trailer rally in June. We have been planning this trip for months and are really looking forward to meeting other Escape owners. After the rally, we plan to drive and camp in scenic areas in the north. We will be on the road for about four months. We want to avoid the heat this summer in Texas. We stopped tonight in Roswell, NM. I had gotten sick in Roswell several years ago, so I never really want to drive...

Mar 4, 2012 - Leaving San Antonio

I'm glad to report... the McDonald's in Uvalde has great WiFi, enabling me to update you much earlier than expected. Verizon is non-existent in this part of the hill country, so we bought a $9 AT&T pre-paid phone to make calls, and we check email at "Micky D's". Such is the glamorous life of fulltimers on the road! On the way northwest from Palacios, we stopped in with friends and family... took care of our greedy uncle (Sam), and played LOT'S of cards! We won't be in this neck of the woods again for some time, and wanted to visit with as...

Feb 16, 2012 - Canyon Lake and the Devil's Backbone

February 16 2012 Canyon Lake and the Devil's Backbone The Devils Backbone was on the way to Canyon Lake but decided to place it last on this trip journal. The first city we passed through was Wimberley. We will be visiting them in about 3 weeks for their famous weekend flea market. For info on Wimberley please click HERE. Here is the Wimberley Facebook Page. Click HERE Canyon Lake is a tourist mecca and not usually the type of town we are interested in seeing, but you might be. They have a Big Lake, Water, Boats, Swimming Holes, Picnic...

Apr 13, 2011 - San Antonio, TX - Potters Creek COE

Our trip from East Texas down to the San Antonio area was 254 miles of uneventful travel. We did manage to leave another $335 behind at a truck stop but that will last us until we get through San Antonio and the Big Bend area stops. We are staying at Potters Creek Park which is a Corp of Engineer park on Canyon Lake about 45 minutes North of San Antonio. We love to camp at COE campgrounds since they are always located on a lake and offer some of the best camping experiences for the money available. We have 50 amps and water and the dump...

Nov 2, 2010 - Old time Ham Friends

Left Peco, TX this morning at 10:45am after a nice breakfast at the Flying J Resturant. We drove a little less then 400 miles today. It was actually another long drive day. Our goal was to arrive and spend a few days with our Ham Radio friends John and Bonnie. They live in their RV at Canyon Lake RV Park for the winter. We had a great time with them. Unfortunately Debbie became sick with an ear ache and they took us to a "Urgent Care" a walk-in clinic. It was very nice. Debbie ended up with an inner and outer ear infections and was...

Aug 5, 2010 - Canyon Lake, TX

We took a little side trip to Canyon Lake to visit our friends, Wayne and Mary. We had reservations for a family event that didn't work out so it gave a great chance to spend more time with our good friends. We always like going there because we have become sort of an honorary part of their circle of friends. They always give us the big Texas welcome when we come to town and we love it. This time we took a little day trip over to Austin, TX so that I could see the Texas Capital. It really is a beautiful city and the Capitol building is a...

Apr 15, 2010 - Wrapping Up the Hill Country

From Potters Creek COE Campground in Canyon Lake, TX … I thought this would be a “down” day for us. But we actually stayed very busy. We did sleep in until 8:30 and relaxed for a while in the morning and watched some of our favorite Food TV shows. Charlie made waffles for breakfast, and I fried some bacon. We left home about noon with three loads of laundry in search of a Laundromat. We had not found one nearby this week, so Charlie wrote down four that he found online in New Braunfels. That’s about 30 minutes from us, so it wasn’t a...

Apr 14, 2010 - Pacific War Musuem & San Antonio

From Potters Creek COE Campground in Canyon Lake, TX … We had another full day planned, but after listening to the weather on the morning news, we decided to make some changes. We had planned to go to San Antonio tomorrow, but there is a higher chance of rain tomorrow than today. And it was forecast to rain later this afternoon too. So we discussed our plans and agreed that we would try to do the sightseeing we wanted to do today and then go into San Antonio on the way back this afternoon. We had planned to go to the Laundromat this...

Apr 13, 2010 - Day in Austin

From Potters Creek COE Campground in Canyon Lake, TX … We slept in until around 8:30 this morning. I guess we needed to take it a little easier than yesterday. We took our time as we had some cereal and grapefruit for breakfast. I took a shower and got ready, and Charlie did a little research for our trip to the state capital, Austin, Texas today. We left around 11:30 and headed out toward I-35. Our day began with lots of clouds but as we drove closer to Austin, the sun started to peek out. It took us about an hour to get to Austin. We...
