Mar 10, 2014 - Our return to Texas

Return to Texas! We took 3 days to travel the 900 miles to Burleson, TX, just south of Ft Worth. We had some wind but not bad. It was very good travel weather with temps between 50 and 60. On Tuesday and Wednesday we traveled about 250 miles each day. Tuesday night we stayed just west of El Paso at Western Sky’s RV Park in Vado, NM. It is OK for a night but there is no reason to stop here for a longer period. Several old, run down, permanent RVs. We had feed lots to the west and east but they weren’t a problem. On Wednesday we landed at the...

Sep 22, 2012 - Burleson, Texas

The main reason we stopped in Burleson was to see Fran's cousins who live in Granbury so on Saturday we went over and visited with them for a while and enjoyed a great meal at one of their hole-in-wall restaurants, as usual at these places the food was great! We both enjoyed the time, unfortunately Fran didn't take pictures even after she took the time to charge the camera's battery. Oh well, next time. We was wanting to see some of our Tiffin friends who also lives in Granbury but they where in Washington state so the next time, hopefully...

Sep 21, 2012 - Travel day - Burleson, Texas

YEA !!!!!!!! BACK IN TEXAS! Trip was not a long trip, less than 100 miles. Fran has a cousin that lives in Granbury and we wanted to see her and her daughter, so that is why we had a short travel day. It was exciting crossing the Red River (very low water)and getting the motor coach back on Texas soil. We had only traveled about 10 miles from Winstar when we stopped at the Texas Welcome Center, but we wanted to grab a new map and some tourist information just in case things had really made a huge change, we felt like we had been gone...

Apr 29, 2012 - Texas Women's State Championships- DFW area

After all the stress getting here (IH-35W being closed) we all had a super time. The night of arrival no one wanted to get back in a vehicle, luckily the RV park had a restaurant so off we all went (walking) to the restaurant on site. Saturday was the team day of bowling. Everyone bowled decent and had fun. Fran's hip was still bothering her and that lead to babying the ball but she still bowled ok. After bowling, as usual, the group headed out to eat. This time the choice was BJ's Brew Company. We had a blast! Good food, good friends and...

Apr 27, 2012 - Travel day - Burleson, Texas

The day started out great. Since we was north of Austin we didn't have to worry about the Austin traffic, that was super! Things was going great until we got within 5 miles of our destination - Yogi Bear at Rustic Creek Ranch in Burleson. Traffic was stopped! We didn't know what was going on but our friends (Evelyn and Ernie) was a few miles behind us so we called them, he turned on his CB. A couple of 18 wheelers had an accident and IH-35W was closed. It took us 2 hours to go 5 miles. An RV park had never looked so good! Pulled in and we...

Nov 6, 2011 - Exiting OKC On The Heels Of An Earthquake!!!

From Mockingbird Hill RV Park – Burleson, TX Left Oklahoma City this morning with the record breaking 5.6 earthquake of last night now being the second earthquake we have experienced since beginning our travels in 2008………you probably remember the other was on Easter Sunday in Yuma last year! Actually, we were about 40 miles from the epicenter and the trailer made a few gyro movements for only about five to ten seconds! In fact, we were not even aware it WAS an earthquake until we learned there had been “eight” in Oklahoma yesterday and...

Home Sweet RV - 2011

Oct 29, 2010 - Home again

I arrived home to a wonderful new kitchen and an empty bank account. The kitchen is restocked, however anyone who wants to see the kitchen in its 'new' state should get here quickly, as I am about to wear out the hinges and the new pulls, looking for my stuff. QC and Danny had a few other surprises for me, the real reason for the lateness of this update, trying to get my house undecorated and all my stuff out of the garage back where it belonged. I have not curtains, therefore dressing is a must before leaving my bedroom. The trip recap:...

Mar 19, 2010 - Home, what do you mean a cold front is comming?

I spent the morning, visiting and just enjoying the quite of the country and the beauty of the river. We picked up limbs getting ready to mow in preparation for the wedding of the next door neighbor’s daughter. I sure hate to miss the celebration, but I headed home just after lunch. I made one quick stop in Junction to say hi to a friend before rushing to make dinner at the Koffee Kup in Hico. I was disappointed, no strawberry pie, out of season. I remember getting strawberry pie on the way to San Angelo just before Easter on a past trip....

Spring Break 2010

Feb 18, 2010 - Burleson, Texas

The Rolling Rotarians, a branch of the RV Fellowship of Rotary International, met in Burleson for their winter rally. The weather turned beautiful for our weekend and we had a great time. On Friday, we went to Arlington, to see the new Cowboy Stadium. That visit is described on another entry. On Saturday, we went to a nearby attraction - Russell Farm Art Center. The center is operated on a small farm and the purpose is for artists to have a place to do their art and also teach it. We found a treasure. Most of the art we saw were wood...

Sep 8, 2009 - Home Sweet Home but hot

When I arrived in Duncan OK last night around 8PM, I opened the windows and waited for the trailer to cool down. It was not long before I closed all the windows and turned on the air conditioner. I thought it was cooler in OK and TX. I drove to Bowie this morning for an early breakfast, 10:30 with my friend and former high school mate. Actually he had breakfast at 5 AM and only drank coffee with me. Jerry is quite a bit older than me; he was a 5th year Senior when I was a freshman at Lamesa High School, Go Golden Tornadoes. We had a great...

Sep 1, 2009 - Summer 2009

During the last few days of June and the first days of July, 2009, my wife and I along with our five year-old granddaughter and seventeen year-old grandson took a trip to Burleson, TX, from Cedartown, GA. We left Georgia on June 29 and headed west out I-20. It was quite an experience for us with our grandson driving the Winnebago Adventurer for the first time. Due to my having been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease about two years prior to this, I am unable to drive the motor home. My wife is the main driver. On this trip our grandson got...

Jul 16, 2009 - Burleson in my rear view mirror

Good Evening. After 2 weeks of canoe camp and 1 week of non water camp, I am ready to travel. Charlotte and I celebrated my Birthday at camp with a ice cream cake she brought to me. We had to slice the cake to allow it to fit in the trailer freezer, and oh yes, we had to eat part of it immediately. One of the advantages of living 66 years, and there are many, is taking multiple pills twice daily, which requires a large pill reminder box. I have discovered that the pill box also is great for identification of the day of the week, which is...
