Mar 21, 2016 - On the road to Brackettville

We left Cypress a few minutes after 9am this morning and made our way down Fry Road to I-10. The traffic wasn't too bad on I-10 and we made it thru San Antonio without any problem. We left I-10 and continued west on US 90 out of San Antonio and passed thru Castroville, Hondo, Uvalde and other small towns before arriving at the Fort Clark Springs RV park in Brackettville around 3:30 pm. The RV park is located on property which is part of the old Fort Clark army post that was established in the mid 1800s. Several famous Generals were...

Nov 14, 2012 - Arizona and Texas

The other day a full timing Rver friend of ours spending his first RV winter in Arizona wrote a wonderful blog assessing and comparing Texas’ Rio Grande Valley and the Mesa/Phoenix area. His assessment was spot on and quite fair. We spent our first winter in the RV in the Tombstone area and loved it (the good and the bad) The second winter we spent a short time in the Tucson area after having spent a couple of weeks in Del Rio, TX and then returned to Del Rio. We were sold on Texas for a number of reasons. Eventually we tried a couple of...

Nov 10, 2012 - Things to Come

January 1st is the usual day for predictions of things to come, but this year I chose to look into my crystal ball after the election, and after the fog cleared this is some of what I saw. An un-United States of America. Higher or additional taxes for all with non government income. Higher fuel prices, $5 + per gallon. A lower level of health care and longer waits to obtain that care.(especially for those on Medicare) Another downgrade in the U.S. ‘ credit rating. Enormous debt for the country. The U. S. falling to a second rate country...

Nov 9, 2012 - God's Choice

The argument that God is in control and determines whom our leaders are is fundamentally unsound. The idea that God would choose leaders such as Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin, leaders responsible for the misery, torture and death of tens of millions of innocents is unfathomable to me. Why would we bother to vote if God chooses? Are we who vote for the loser voting against God’s will? And therefore are we out of touch with God and thence un-Godly? Why did God give us a free will with the ability to make choices, good or bad, right or...

Nov 7, 2012 - A Country Changed!

Another Tuesday and the big election. This election has provoked many thoughts in my over active mind about OUR country and I would like to share a few of them. I have no intention of offending anyone and hope no one takes offense. I also would hope that we as a people can accept that we never will all agree on all things and that what each of us believes is not necessarily correct just because we believe it. Having said that I will proceed with my observations based on the facts as I see them. The election has confirmed that as a country...

Nov 3, 2012 - This and That

Tuesday a day of reckoning. I somehow have managed to find myself on the Fort Clark Springs architectural committee. That would be fine, except they meet at 9:00am EVERY Tuesday and although I am up plenty early I don’t like getting going right away. I have a number of back exercises I do each morning, coffee to drink, body preparation, relaxing, breakfast, etc. . But, I guess it won’t hurt me to inconvenience myself one morning a week to lend a hand to the workings of the association. Other than that our routine has stayed much the same...

Oct 22, 2012 - Back?

Our first full summer in south Texas is complete. And it wasn’t bad, in fact we really enjoyed it. We spent the last week of June and the first three weeks of July going to, staying, and returning from, Minnesota and Wisconsin. We did cherish that time too, but were anxious to get back to our new little cottage and our life here. Leaving the north country also relieved any pressure that may or may not have been on the kids to fit us in their busy schedules. We love and miss them all, but they have a life and we understand. Our Rving life is...

Jul 29, 2012 - More of An Update

As we approached our departure date to the north country, health problems reared their ugly head. Pat ended up in the ER at Del Rio two nights in a three day stretch. The second time resulted in an 165 mile ambulance ride to a heart hospital in San Antonio. Skipping the details and going straight to the bottom line, she is OK. Seems she probably had food poisoning resulting in a very elevated heart rate. By the time I had her out of the hospital it was too late for me to make my appointment with the carpal tunnel Doctor so I cancelled. I...

Jul 28, 2012 - An Old Story (written mid June)

Here we are deep in the heart of Texas and lovin it. Our little cottage is finished and now most of our time will be devoted strictly to fun and games. What will our future RV life be? We really aren't sure. I could be happy mixing in some travels now and then, but I'm not too sure about Pat. I do have to admit being able to jump into the golf cart on short notice and zipping over to the golf course for a round is nice. Lately three or four days a week I play with a group at 12:30pm with big money involved. Every body throws in $4 and skins...

May 17, 2012 - Inside Pictures

Pat here. I have added some inside pictures of our tiny little nest, which is not much bigger than our RV but has a bathtub and a huge refrigerator. Everything is compact, designed by us. It is super easy to keep clean and I'm at the Bridge table before you know it. Or outside reading a good book. Or visiting with the neighbors. Or quilting. Or cross stitching. Or..................... We have the 5th wheel for any traveling we may care to do and it also works as an extra bedroom for visitors. That means we are no longer fulltime RV'rs. We...
