May 11, 2013 - Catch-Up & News

I have been extremely lazy about doing updates lately. We have been busy beavers going to the “Big Sit” Audubon birding event, singing karaoke at our friends restaurant that just opened for the season, sunning on the beach and just plain relaxing. It felt so good to take time off from updates, I might get used to only doing them once a month. :-) Check out this video for more information about the Audubon Big Sit: I am now up to 390 birds on my bird count. Texas has been awesome for birding. The Big Sit I do have some wonderful news to...

Mar 1, 2013 - Fun At The Beach

We are having a wonderful time at the beach. The owner of the RV spot we are renting is building a new home on the property. We talked to him for hours this week and I mentioned renting a golf cart to ride on the beach. He offered his and told us to keep it for the whole month we are here. Wowser! We spent most of the day riding it on the beach for miles and picking ups shells etc. We could get spoiled with this kind of life. :-) The only bad news we have is our house did not lease again. Two of the students renting our home graduate this...

Feb 25, 2013 - Jerry's Big One!

Jerry is a very happy fisherman, he caught the big one. He snagged a 24” drum, it weighed about 10 pounds. I wish I had been with him to take pictures when he pulled it in, but I missed this one. I did manage to get a few when he brought it home. He cleaned it carefully and we called Bobby to learn how to filet it. We also watched videos online so we could actually SEE it being done. I decided to do the fileting, all was going well, I had a nice big piece ready when I noticed worms in the flesh. Yikes! This one had to be tossed out, the...

Feb 16, 2013 - Travel Day & Birthday!

We had a very short travel day today, only 45 miles from Galveston. We are now set up right on the beach in the Bolivar Peninsular. It is the BEST sites we have ever had. We watched men fish right outside our window, we saw them catch a HUGE fish. They were catching so many fish they stayed overnight and fished with a lantern. Jerry is ready to go fishing already, he has to go and buy his license tomorrow. Today is also Jerry's 69th birthday. Happy Birthday Jerry! I took him out for some of the best fried shrimp we have ever tasted. We...

Feb 14, 2013 - Ferry Bolivar Peninsular

Happy Valentine’s Day! Jerry surprised me with beautiful red tulips, a wonderful card and a pink Texas style hat. What a sweetheart! I bought him a ton of all his favorite candies and lunch. We had a very special day. We took the Galveston Island Ferry to explore the Bolivar Peninsular. The ferry is free and is open 24 hours a day. You can even drive your RV on for free. We enjoyed watching all the birds following the ferry and dolphins swimming along beside us. They were too fast for me to get pictures, I spotted five and Jerry saw three....

Apr 16, 2008 - Bolivar, Texas

Day 127 Wednesday - We left this site late as I wanted to do a bit more fishing in the morning. The fish were still giving themselves up so it was a good morning, especially as the camp office gave out free coffee & cakes. A very nice camp. In contrast the drive down through Houston & Galveston was pretty awful. Miles & miles of concrete roads filled with crazy traffic. In the end we carried on through both & went by ferry across to Bolivar peninsula. Again we have been put off visiting a big city because of the horendous traffic.
