Oct 23, 2014 - Benbrook Lake, Texas

We have a month to spend in this part of Texas, near brother Bill and family, awaiting the arrival of the families for Thanksgiving. We are thrilled that Michael and Amber will join us, as well as my parents. We will finally be able to meet Bill's in-laws, Vinnie and Kathy Sessa. We are also eagerly anticipating our pre-Thanksgiving vacation in the Caribbean aboard the Carnival Conquest, heading toward Honduras, Belize, Cayman, and Mexico. We will put the dog and the RV in storage, and spend some time being waited on hand and foot. We...

Apr 28, 2013 - Benbrook, TX - Holiday Park COE

It was an uneventful 222 miles from Potters Creek COE to the Holiday Park COE on Lake Benbrook, near Benbrook, TX just West of Fort Worth. It was all rural roads with no interstate so a little more interesting than the other trips. Interestingly, we crossed the Colorado River while passing through Marble Falls, TX - yes, the Colorado River. A little research reveals that this country has two Colorado Rivers - the more famous Western Colorado which originates in the Rocky Mountain National Park, creating many of our western scenic areas such...

Mar 23, 2013 - Benbrook Lake, TX

We are staying at an Army Corps of Engineers campground at Benbrook Lake in Texas. They have huge, spacious sites with water and electricity and they are right on a lake. We have not had such a nice site in awhile. There are miles of trails and roads to walk and even an equestrian site, if you want to bring your horse along. Cool! Overnight we had thunderstorms and some rain in the morning. It was brightened by noon but remained cloudy. We will be leaving Texas tomorrow and entering Arkansas. We have been in Texas since January 18th. It...

Aug 8, 2012 - Texas Trip (July 25-29, 2012)

Day 1: Me, Alex and Chance drove up to Benbrook, getting there around 6. We only got lost once, around Fort Worth. We had Pizza Hut waiting for us when we got there. Day 2: The three of us went to Six Flags over Texas in Arlingon. It was great. We had Platinum passes, so we didn't have to wait in line. We first went on Titan, the tallest roller coaster in Texas. Then we rode the Texas Giant, Superman, Mr. Freeze, and Batman. We then went on dive bomber alley, which is kind of like a swing on a bungee cord. That was the best part. We rode...

Oct 26, 2011 - Benbrook

25 October 2011 San Antonio to Benbrook Set off at about 10am (normal set off time) from San Antonio and headed north towards Fort Worth. The interstate highway would have taken us through and past Austin and Waco but we chose to take the more country route. Our drive today took us through the Hill Country and mid Texas. On our way, we drove through Johnson City, the home of LBJ (the President) and Lady Bird Johnson. We stopped for lunch at Evant in a quaint little café – our table was next to a display of salt and pepper pots alphabetised...

Nov 10, 2010 - Holiday Park at Benbrook Lake

We arrived at the Holiday Park at Benbrook Lake today and we are here for four nights while we visit the Dallas/Fort Worth area and specifically Grapevine, Texas. I took a few pictures around the park. Holiday Park is a Corps of Engineers park and is another great place to stay.
