Mar 14, 2012 - A different part of Texas

Beaumont Texas, I can't say it's real pretty but it is green. Home of Babe Zaharias. And that's all I know about Beaumont Texas. Oh and lots of construction going through Houston. We stayed in a very vanilla RV park right next door to the South East Texas State Fairgrounds. It gave us a nice place to go and workout.

Feb 26, 2012 - Louisiana To Texas and More Rough Roads

Beaumont, TX. 40 deg. clear, no wind. Forecast = Partly cloudy in the morning, then mostly cloudy. High of 63F. Winds from the East at 5-15 mph. . Friday was a do-nothing day. Neither Jim nor Linda felt like doing anything, so they didn't!! ; ) Oh, I almost forgot, they did go into Kinder and bought CLT a drink of 87 octane and themselves some bread, and milk. Yesterday morning, we left the Coushatta Casino RV park at 10:30 and retraced my route back down to Kinder. At Kinder, we got back on US 190 and took it west until it turned North....

Feb 22, 2012 - New Braunfels and San Antonio then on to Beaumont

The RV Park was next to the I-35 freeway but along a river, 100 feet below the freeway. This helped reduce the traffic noise in the park. When we checked in they said they were in a flash flood watch until the morning and they would stay up and monitor the river all night. They had a disaster plan and a place to move us if the water rose into the park. Thankfully, there was no flash flood and the river only rose a few feet over night. It was a new and interesting experience to think about. Saturday we made a trip into San Antonio to visit...

Jan 4, 2012 - Elks Lodge

Not much except another long driving day. We did cross the Mississippi River and the Swanee River. I think we also probably crossed the longest bridge in the world it seem of of been forever. I guess maybe 10-15 miles long. We spent the night at the local Elks Lodge. They have made a lot of improvements to the camping spaces. They now have full hookup spots for about 15 RVs.

Nov 19, 2011 - Beaumont, Texas

Our plan was to leave Betty’s at 9:00 this morning because we had only a three hour drive to reach our destination in Beaumont, TX. We took our time getting ready to go, then said “So Long” to our friends, accompanied by big hugs. Guess what! It was exactly 9:00 AM when we pulled out onto the highway. We had good weather with no headwind, and the traffic wasn’t too bad. That made it pretty much a stress-free journey and we arrived at the Gulf Coast RV Resort a few minutes before 12:00 noon. We checked in, set up quickly and were on our way...

Nov 16, 2011 - Gulf Coast RV Resort, Beaumont, Texas

Hi Y'all..... We left Picayune this morning under rainy skies and they gradually cleared away to be a really blistering day. The temps quickly climbed to over 28 deg C and the humidity clung on like crazy. The traveling trio about noon passed under the huge sign saying "Welcome to TEXAS" and about an hour later arrived at Gulf Coast RV. Because of the heat I was exhausted just plugging in the power cable. As soon as I caught my breath I grabbed my toiletries and held my head under a wonderful deluge of water from one of the cleanest shower...

Apr 10, 2011 - Beaumont, Texas

Hi Y'all Well after another hot, steamy day we arrive at The Gulf Coast RV Resort here in Beaumont, Texas. We decided to book in for two days hoping that tomorrow would be a bit cooler as they were forecasting a chance of rain and perhaps Thunderstorms. We haven't had an accurate forecast of rain all winter so what makes believe that it'll happen. The Rio Grande Valley didn't get much more than 0.01" of rain since November. This is now tomorrow and you can see by the pictures the clouds have moved in and it's sultry and warm (29 deg C)....

Apr 8, 2011 - Beaumont Fire Engines

Today we said goodbye to the Gulf of Mexico and the Laughing Gulls and moved inland to the city of Beaumont. It is very hot and humid. After getting settled in the new campground we went to see the Texas Fire Museum, which is the reason we came to Beaumont. The museum has a fine collection of old fire engines and fire fighting equipment. The collection is housed in an old fire station that was built in 1927. The ground floor has several large doors on two sides for the trucks to go in and out. As was the custom in old fire halls, living...

Apr 1, 2011 - Briefly in Beaumont

Continuing our journey back East, we stayed two evenings at Gulf Coast RV Park in Beaumont, TX. Our friends John, Donna, and Gary recommended the park, and we were pleased they told us about it. It was an easy access from I-10 and close to lots of shopping and dining. Plus it was right next door to the state fairground, and the Texas State Fair just happened to be going on while we were there, so we would have some fun nearby. Our original plan was to attend the State Fair on Saturday, but we decided the $8 per person entry charge ($16 for...

Feb 5, 2011 - State of Texas

Today is the 3rd of Fev & we're staying an extra day to rest while it rains outside. We are a RV park, Gulf Coast. It's bitterly cold with a north wind howling; Jean says the sun has run out of propane. I can tell you we are thankful to be in a vehicle with a furnace, rather than a boat! We chatted with the Corcorrans on Skpe today. They are in the Exhumas= on their sailboat...basking in warm weather. I said to Jean: did we have to come all this way to freeze our butts?!?*** Oh, well, we are only 2days travel away from Mission where the...
