Mar 11, 2013 - nice campground

We had a good travel day Sat. We came right though the middle of Houston without any problem. No missed turns or anything . Arrived at the Hidden Lake campground around noon. Just traveled about 200 miles. This is a real nice campground with a really nice lake. The people that work at these campgrounds are so friendly. Donald went in to pay for our spot and was in the office for over a half hour. I thought maybe he had been kidnapped. She had to feel him in on all the good places to eat and shop. She was really good with her suggestions....

Don't wake me up

Jan 11, 2013 - So long Mississippi, Hello Texas

After sitting out the rainstorms that went through Louisiana and south Mississippi, we headed out again this morning. The water level along the highway was fairly high after the downpours on Thursday. The trip through Louisiana was a little soggy, but cleared up after lunch. Since it is a Friday the choice was not to tempt fate by going through Houston at rush hour, but rather spend the night in Beaumont, TX and leave for Fredericksburg in the morning.

James Gypsy Journey

Aug 8, 2012 - Beaumont, TX

Beaumont, TX Gulf Coast RV Resort There’s just something about Texas, I can’t put my finger on it, but we both like Texas. Ron said the air smells better and I think the people are friendlier. Every single person we’ve seen has been friendly and pleasant. Everybody in the RV park waves and smiles. Most people in an RV park will wave but I’ve noticed the smiles too. Even the kid riding his bike has a big smile and a wave as he passed by. It’s only been 24 hours since we’ve been in Texas and I sure hope the rest of the time we spend here is...

Aug 7, 2012 - Breaux Bridge, LA to Beaumont, TX

Breaux Bridge, LA to Beaumont, TX 142 miles We wanted an early start (early for us that is) so the sun would not be shining directly in front of us as we traveled west to Texas. We pulled out around 10:30am and for the first 10 miles it was rough road but smoothed out until we got to Lake Charles, LA. It was a bit of a rough road and then a little better the rest of the way to Beaumont. We must have had a little too much rough road since one of our outside compartments had one of the latches pop open. Thank goodness the other latch held or...

Aug 3, 2012 - Home

We arrived home after 45 days and 10,142 miles driven in the motorhome. We also drove quite a few miles in the car and flew above the Arctic Circle to Fort Yukon. In some of the pictures you see a patch of brown hair in bottom of the picture. That is: Muskox Sally. We Adopted her in Palmer at the Muskox farm. I have to thank our kids for the Camera we used. It was a fantastic christmas present. Charlotte took most of the pictures while we were traveling. She has become an acccomplished photographer. In response to three common...

May 27, 2012 - Beaumont, TX

We took a less traveled highway from Austin to Houston, it started with a lot of traffic signals, but eventually turned into a great road. We were worried about traffic in Houston, but because it was the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, traffic was light. We ended up staying in Beaumont at a Passport America park. Gulf Coast RV Park was great! Big pull throughs, nice people, and PA rate of $17.

May 4, 2012 - Heading on East

Left Beaumont, TX about 7:45 with plans of driving 350 miles today. We had a free breakfast at the park – TX waffles. Saw lots of rice/crawfish fields going across Louisiana today. Destination - Ocean Springs, MS today. A park we have been to several times in the past. Adjacent to the park is a great BBQ place, "The Shed." Best BBQ in the whole wide world. They have been on Nat’l television – on the food channel. One time when we were here, they were filming. Arrived at the park about 3:00. Across the street is a gas station so topped off...

2012 Travels

Apr 28, 2012 - Texas Two Step

Beaumont, TX and Brenham, TX were also overnight stops on our way to the Texas Hill Country. The oil industry was in evidence everywhere- drilling, refineries, chemical plants etc. We lucked into a BBQ cook off in Beaumont by a statewide group called the Go Texans which benefits education. The night before the judging they had a Fish Fry and dance which they invited us to join. The catfish was outstanding and watching them Two Step was really enjoyable. We’ve decided the next time we come to Texas we will know how to Two Step and line...

So far no luck. We might just have to wait...

Road Trip 2012

Apr 12, 2012 - First Day Traveling Home.

Hi Y'all ! Just a short note to tell you our first day on the road is over. We left Mission before the sun got up (7:00 am). We couldn't get enough money together to convince a group of Mexicans to wave goodbye to us at the fence. God, sensed our angst and the heavens cried for us as we were leaving. I lasted until the turnoff for the 281 then it dried up nicely and we had a very nice trip for the rest of the day. My arse is sore and Rita is laying down reading. HeyU managed to PUKE all over his own blanket but then traveled quietly for the...
