Oct 29, 2010 - The Lone Star State

Destination for the day, Baytown/Galveston KOA just east of Houston, just over 400 KM's from Baton Rouge. Shortly after leaving camp we crossed over the Mississippi once again. Ever since hitting Louisiana we have seen nothing but flatland and trees, the only hills we have seen have been man made and are the overpasses on the freeway. Today would be no different. Once we got west of Lafayette the section of I-10 we were traveling on is called the Atchafalaya Swamp Freeway, and believe me it is. In one section you are travelling along a...

We have been in the Houston area (actually staying E of Houston in Baytown). Its not hard to tell the major employers down here....anywhere you look on the horizon are HUGE oil refineries...and it is a major area for container shipping. Today we took a little side trip down to Galveston. I must say, as a West Coast beach goer it was a little disappointing...the area is REALLY FLAT, and no breakers out on the water...just waves. It was pretty interesting though to see all the buildings built on stilts. And there is still alot of damage from...

Feb 19, 2008 - Monday

Not much to report for Monday. We left Waveland at about 9AM heading for Houston area. Found a lot of road construction along the way. Stopped for some fresh citrus, and it is very good. Campground is right next to Interstate 10, so a bit of highway noise. More later. Hopefully some photos. Ray and Barb Mom and Dad

Feb 24, 2007 - 2-24-07 Wallisville, Texas

2-24-07 Howdy, from the Lone Star State of Texas! The drive from Baton Rogue was windy and rainy with the motor home feeling every gust of wind. But the rough condition of the roads along the gulf coast are starting to rival the ones in Minnesota! It appears hurricanes and flooding in the south have the same effect as hard freezes in the north. The roads break up and heave upward to shake the bolts out of any vehicle. I'm glad I brought my tools! After setting up our camp we headed toward the Houston area for groceries and a quick glance...
