This Bastrop State Park outing was our fist campinng trip for the 2008 season. Lloyd had just upgraded his motor home and was needing a close easy trip to "test" his new rig. Of course several things occured as would be expected on a first trip with a new rig. First we arrived early because Bastrop is about 1 hour east of Austin, TX. and Lloyd bunch were coming from Houston. It would be after dark when they arrived so we picked out a parking site close to us, where our awnings would face each other which kinda joins our sites together. Well...

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 21 It finally happened! I have actually begun my first extended trip since my retirement in June 2004. I drove "Miss Daisy" east from Austin about 45 miles to the beautiful Bastrop State Park to camp among the "Lost Pines" for two nights in the Copperas Creek Camping Area. This isolated forest, located nearly 100 miles from the East Texas Pineywoods, is the westernmost stand of loblolly pines in the United States.
