Apr 18, 2014 - Athens, TX

We have parked the RV in Athens, TX at the Texan RV Park. This will be our base of operations for the next few days. Took a couple of pics around the camp area. They have a lake with ducks, and perch. Nice, fairly quiet place to stay for a little while.

May 3, 2012 - Athens Texas, Install brake solution for Honda

Just a stopover here for 2 hours while we get a brake solution for the Honda. There is now a link between the Motorhome brakes and the car that when the MH brakes are activated the brakes on the Honda are applied also. We had a part for the broken toilet sent here and need to pick that up as well - unfortunately the secretary didn't get the message and returned it to the post office so now we will have to have that sent to another destination on our travels. Don't worry the toilet still works Graeme rigged up a sprayer solution so we can...

Down the road we went hot temps about 98 and the sun was shining. We started down the road toward Baldwin, LA to work in the UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief). What we will be doing is a surprise at this time. We arrived to the smiling faces of the host and Hostess of the Zook Hall wehre we will be staying. Our rooms were assigned to us, we unpacked and got settled. At six pm we went to a general assemble and got some genreral instructions. Then out to eat and then back to the dorm to meet others and just chill until bed time.

Mar 31, 2011 - "On The Road Again!"

We’ve got that song playing in our heads. We left the Valley, Thursday, March 31. We were going to wait until Friday, but Jim realized earlier in the week that while we were in Athens, TX that we were only 25 miles from Canton, TX. Do you know what happens in Canton, TX the first weekend of each month? It’s the world’s largest and oldest flea market. It’s called “First Monday Trade Days”. Well, Canton had been on our “bucket list” so we were off! Hated leaving the Valley and all our great friends. But ready to move on. We took 2 days to...

Dec 10, 2007 - Researching My Grandmother's Birthplace, Goshen, TX

We left all our new found friends in Waco. Frank, Dick, John and all left on Saturday to return to their homes around Richardson. Joe & Barb left for DeSoto on Sunday and we packed up to travel to Athens on Monday morning. We arrived to a damp and cold campground called Lake Athens Marina and RV Resort. There was hardly anyone there so we had the pick of the sites. It really didn't matter because it was wet which ever one we picked. The Resort did have a Restaurant but it wasn't open on Mondays so we cooked ourselves a good supper (which is...

Jun 23, 2006 - Lake Athens

FRIDAY, JUNE 23 The next leg of my journey was a bit longer - 287 miles from Bastrop to Athens. I spent one night at Lake Athens Marina RV Park. Lake Athens is a pretty little lake but the RV park is a bit barren -- quite a contrast from Bastrop State Park. The owners recently planted about a hundred trees, so it will be much nicer a few years from now. I had the fried catfish dinner at their restaurant -- and couldn't believe I ate the whole thing!
