Nov 11, 2018 - Bush 43

As the day progressed yesterday, I realized I wasn’t going to get to see all the things I’d planned to so I skipped some of the outdoor sites figuring I could do those this morning since the W Bush museum didn’t open until noon. So I took a whirlwind tour of downtown this morning hitting Union Station, Pegasus Red Flying Horse, Pioneer Plaza, Founders Plaza, and the JFK Memorial. Had some time left so I checked out the free exhibits on the first floor of the Old Red Museum and strolled through the Historic West End. Headed out to the Bush...

Nov 10, 2018 - 6 Seconds in Dallas

Got downtown much earlier than I needed to. I thought the trolley tour I wanted to take started at 10, so I was downtown by 9:15 but it turns out the trolley didn’t leave until 10:45 (winter hours). Spent some time wandering the around the Dealy Plaza/Grassy Knoll area near the Former Texas Schoolbook Depository Building. As w/ other historic sites, it is interesting to see in person what I’ve seen many times in pictures. Trolley was an hour and 15 minutes and hit the downtown highlights. Stayed on the trolley for an extra stop to get back...

Nov 9, 2018 - Show Me the Money!!

Started out the day w/ a self-guided audio tour at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing which is on the far north side of Fort Worth. This is where they really do print money. Starts out w/ a film, then the tour is on walkways above the production floor w/ an audio wand that has recorded explanations of what you are seeing, and then there are 2 floors of exhibits, one that focuses on the manufacturing process again, and another w/ just general and historic information about money. All very fascinating. This is only one of two places in the...

Nov 8, 2018 - Bush 41

My streak of uneventful travel days ended today. I was on the south side of Houston and need to head north so I had to go straight through downtown. Traffic was heavy so the trip up to the Bush 41 Presidential Library and Museum took an hour longer than it should have. After leaving the museum headed towards Waco and things were okay just misting a little. But then north of Waco it started raining in earnest. Visibility was poor, but people weren’t slowing down. Then I did a bit of hydroplaning in a big puddle. Decided to pull off at a rest...

Rain followed us into Texas. Crazy traffic in the Dallas Fort Worth area as usual. Here for a few days on a convention. Buddy is still with us. Not Mary's favorite State. We did have an awesome meal at hibachi place. After this we leave for Alabama to get some warranty work done at the RV factory.

Up and Rovin

May 7, 2016 - Arlington

There was lots of construction on I-35 but we had a smooth trip from Austin to Treetops RV Resort in Arlington arriving on Monday and setting up in site 24. In general this is a very nice park and our site is spacious with excellent wifi. The only issue was no satellite due to trees. That meant no DVR for me this week. On Tuesday Lisa and George Karr came to the RV park to see the Phaeton and we had some Texas barbecue at Rudy's. The Karrs joined us Wednesday evening at the home of Diana McDow for pizza on the patio get together. It was a...

Feb 2, 2015 - Arlington Texas

Our day today would be at the Will Rogers Memorial Center where the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo is held. This is the longest continual running livestock show and rodeo in the United States, started in 1896. It was held at the Fort Worth Stock Yards until 1942, 1943 there was no show because of World War II and all the facility was being used for the war effort. The show started back up in 1945 at the Will Rogers Memorial Center and held there ever since. We mainly wanted to attend the rodeo that was going to take place at 2:00 pm. The...

Jan 31, 2015 - Arlington Texas

Our adventure today will be the Fort Worth Stockyards which appears will be a step back in history of Fort Worth in the late 1800’s. The weather is a little chilly today enough that we will be wearing light jackets to keep the chill off from the breeze. Rain is in the forecast, hope we get to visit without the rain. I was amazed it was only a 30 minute drive which made it closer the Dallas. We arrived around 10:00 am and the area was still in the opening up process, delivery trucks and street sweepers. We strolled on Exchange Street which...

Jan 30, 2015 - Arlington Texas

We will visit the George W Bush Presidential Library today which is located on the campus of Southern Methodist University. The library is located in Dallas so we have about 45 minute drive to get there if traffic is not too bad, we go thru downtown Dallas to get there. Upon arrival you see that it is a majestic building that was built for the housing of the artifact of his presidency. Parking was not too well-marked so we ended up circling the place twice to find the parking lot. We finally did find parking, which they charged $7 to park,...

Jan 29, 2015 - Arlington Texas

Our journey started today at 9:00 am as we pulled out of the campground heading north to Tree Tops Carefree RV Park in Arlington Texas for the next few days. The trip north was thru lots of open range that you could see for miles, it is very flat down here. All you see is oil wells, cattle, horses and a very clear sky. The trip was about 175 miles today which took us 4-1/2 hours to drive, with a 1 hour stop in Marlin Texas at the local Wal-Mart. We arrived at the RV park, got checked in and a guy on a golf cart led us to our site. The site...

Jun 9, 2014 - We can relax now

Monday Arlington, TX Treetops Carefree RV Resort This morning started with severe thunderstorms and frequent lightning. The cats wanted me to get out of bed, not only to feed them but I think they were uneasy about the storm. It stormed for a few hours and then the rain cleared out and the air temperature dropped. The park office called this morning and they have a site available tomorrow that we can move to and stay for a month. What a relief! Even though it will be a little tough on Ron to endure the activity involved to move the...
