Sep 12, 2014 - Galveston to Aledo, Texas

It was a long driving day. We drove freeways only and had to deal with thunder, lightening, pouring rain, winds, not to mention the traffic delays. The last 100 miles was not relaxing as the winds took a lot of concentration on our driver's part! Heavy traffic through downtown Houston was stressful but pretty to look at. We left the hot and humid Galveston and arrived here in Aledo and it was raining and about 66 degrees. The locals say we missed 102 degrees just a couple of days ago. We did see a lot of Friday Night Lights on our drive....

Sure would love to see this beauty, lol!!! ************************************************************************************ Only in Texas When they have a problem in Texas they do not wait for the Federal Government to solve the problem, they take care of it themselves. Nov 3, 2011 - Chaparral's Rally and Cataracts

November 3: Hillsboro, Tx. Chaparral's rally at the North Texas Airstream Community. Very nice place, wide sites. This was a good time and place to practice my driving and backing skills. I got a "Good Job" compliment from Bob. He always does the backing, but this time I drove and tried my hand at backing. My confidence is once again boosted, yeah! November 6: Departing Hillsboro, Tx. back to Cowtown RV park in Aledo, Tx. so Bob can get the other eye fixed. He is so excited, he is seeing so much better. He got a "Good Job" from his main...

Apr 25, 2011 - HOT, HOT, HOT in the ARK-LA-TEX

We spent the last week at the Tall Pines RV Park on the west-side of Shreveport, Louisiana. Tall Pines is a very nice campground located conveniently just off I-20. This area is referred to as the “ARK-LA-TEX” because this corner of Louisiana borders the states of Texas and Arkansas. This is a term that I hadn’t heard before but after watching local news and weather for a week it became one that I heard thousands of times. Two years ago when we went through Shreveport we stayed at a casino campground and were much closer to the other...

Mar 22, 2011 - Dallas and Arlington

Our first stop today is the new Cowboys' Stadium. We took a tour of the facility. It is really big. The screen is huge!! We got to see Jerry Jones' roost, some of the lounges, a few of the suites which are very posh and then got to go down on the field and into the locker rooms of the team and the cheerleaders. The team lockers are made from a special wood which is imported from somewhere in Africa and cost about $9000 each. The field is about 50ft. below ground level. The roof to the stadium retracts and the large windows at each end open...

Mar 21, 2011 - Touring Fort Worth

Today we went in to Fort Worth to see the Stockyards and the Downtown Area. Our first stop was at the Stockyards. Shortly after we arrived we witnessed one of the twice daily cattle drives down the main street. There were not a whole lot of cattle in the herd but they were Longhorns and fun to see. We wandered around and watched a movie about the cattle drives at the Visitor Center then had some delicious brisket sandwiches at a Bar-B-Que place. Next we went to the Downtown Area of Fort Worth. We took a trolley around the city, stopping to...

West Coast Trip 2011

Dec 24, 2009 - Aledo (Ft. Worth), TX

Bill called and said the weather was only going to get worse. I woke Jack up and we hit the road. Good thing because it did get much nastier as the day went on. It snowed on the way, but not too much. Once we arrived in Aledo, it snowed enough to have a little more than ground cover of snow. Then it got icy! We didn't care, we were busy playing cards "Play Nine" and "Pegs N Jokers". Once again, MERRY CHRISTMAS! Our next stop will be Abilene, TX to see Terry and Diana Deese, whom we met at Yellowstone. They are working at the KOA...

Mar 25, 2009 - Cowtown RV Park, Aledo, TX

On Saturday the Weather Channel forecasted high winds for Sunday so we decided to leave for Cowtown RV Park in Aledo, TX a day early. It was a short trip from Canton, a little over 100 miles all on I-20 that runs south of Dallas. Still there was a lot of traffic, the only way it could have been worse was if it had been a weekday. Cowtown RV Park is about ten miles west of Benbrook where Richard and Carol live. The campground while still very close to I-20 is a little out in the middle of nowhere but that’s ok with us, nice and quiet. It is...
