Apr 18, 2013 - Steak and Stampedes
It was very windy last night and we ordered from a steak delivery restaurant . What a surprise, it was a great meal, the meat cooked perfectly, and no dishes! It really rained hard during the night and several places on the feeder roads had standing water. The temperature dropped from 97 to 47. Today we went to the Frontier Experience. It's an interactive museum about the old west. The people talk to you through hologram images. It documents the almost extinction of the buffalo. They were killed thousands at a time. Herds would...

Apr 17, 2013 - Trucks a Million
We were underway at 9:30 but thought it was 8:30 but that's OK cause we are going to be in Central time till the last day when we arrive in Rising Sun. Let me tell you about the drive today. On I-20 the scenery is scrub brush and oil pumps, oil derricks and trucks. There were hundreds of trucks on the highway. Support people in small trucks, semi's, over size loads of rig equipment, gravel and mud trucks, the list is endless. We stayed in the left lane did 65 although you could drive 80. Signs say only use right lane to pass. Dick used...

Apr 6, 2013 - Tyler to Abilene Texas
We can tell we're in Texas now because we just had our second steak in 24 hours! Left chilly and windy New Orleans 2 days ago and now find ourselves in 88 degree weather. Niiiiiiiiiice! The food in NO was to die for - gumbo, boiled crawfish, jambalaya and redfish. Susie even had a Hurricane - Moe was too chicken to try one. Drove as far as Tyler TX. Had a great BBQ'd meal after Moe crawled almost completely into the underbelly of the trailer to get the grill! It was worth it! Queen Susie must have been impressed because she let Moe drive...

Mar 21, 2013 - Abilene, TX
Today we traveled to Abilene, TX, 331 miles, total of 3,924 on the Trek so far. After leaving Alpine, we went through the oil field country of Texas on I-20. Miles and miles of flat land, only broken up by oil wells and refineries and businesses to support them. And it was very hot traveling, in the 80s outside with the sun beating down into the Trek. The A/C worked hard today, keeping up with the heat. We parked for the night at the Abilene RV Park, very conveniently located right off I-20. BUT, a little to close to the highway, as we can...

Mar 13, 2013 - Visit Frontier Texas
Today was one of those days when what you get is so much more than what you planned. We visited Frontier Texas which is a historical interactive display. Lots of holograms allowed us to meet Indians, cowboys, gunfighters, ladies who survived the storms and hostilities, soldiers and many others. We participated in a storm, a gunfight, a buffalo hunt and stampede, wolves chasing us and more. The unlabeled pics are some of the holograms. We spent several hours there and the only negative was loud kids with louder grandparents. That's not a...

Mar 12, 2013 - From Louisiana to Texas
Today we got an early start and left our home of the past two weeks, Louisiana and headed for Texas. Texas is Big and I mean Big. We drove through the Piney Woods and Hill Country Regions and are now entering Panhandle Plains, We saw lush pine forest, hills and valleys, lush green pastures, cows, scruffy looking trees and bushes, oil wells and even some wind turbines. We're now in Abilene where we helped some rancher pay a college tuition tonight. That;s the first red meat since Florida! Photos are attached but you can supply your own...

Feb 27, 2013 - 1st on the scene.
We turned the corner on our treck homeward when we turned north and east on I-20 near Pecos, Texas heading To Abilene for another nights rest. 1/2 of the traveling team is feeling better or ok (the calhoun's), with Virginia feeling run down and Penny failing, but refusing to give up. We did about 300 miles today, a good average for us old folks. I was truly inspired when we stopped In Midland, Texas (home Of George And Laura Bush) fora fuel stop. The Bushes moved To Dallas after The White house and no wonder, the dust bowl we experienced....

Aug 16, 2012 - A Travel Day
After touring the Dr. Pepper Museum, and a late start, we made it as far as Abilene, last night. Stayed in a rest area for RV's at a Flying J. It was one of the largest areas that we have ever come across, for that purpose. Dinner was at a Denny's, food and service were exceptional, and we even got senior discounts. What more can you ask for? This morning, up and refreshed, and fed, off we went to Roswell, to see the aliens from space, not Mexico. Since I was born in 1947, and the disputed crash was in '47, my wife sometimes thinks, that I...

Jun 4, 2012 - Day 1 Abilene, TX
We are off on our journey to the great north. Clothes - check, food - check, beer - check, dogs - uh oh.... No we have them although they had a pretty rough first day. They didn't care much for all the movement and strange noises of travel in a motorhome. More drugs for Smoke and Little Guy tomorrow. Abilene is hot!!! Even with 2 air conditioners, it has been warm in the coach. Everyone is chilling and roughing it watching TV. Lesson for the day: make sure you have the right remote when trying to reset the channels for the new location.

May 23, 2012 - Time to hit the road. First stop Abilene, TX
Goodbye Sun City Texas! We got on the road for our first day of the trip around 12:30. Jay and I definitely have a different philosophy about getting started on our 3 month trip. Jay thinks that since we’re going to be gone for 3 months, there’s no rush to get on the road early. My philosophy is that I’ve planned this trip for months, so I can’t wait to stop planning and finally get on the road. Since Jay has to maneuver the RV through our cul-de-sac, he automatically wins at the “what time we leave” disagreement. So… 12:30 it was! We...

Bien arrive au Residence Inn, Abilene, Texas. Belle route aujourd'hui et beau soleil, dans les 25-28 celcius. Murielle a bien aime traverser Dallas (35 minutes). Apr 11, 2012 - Out and About In Abilene, Texas
After we left Frontier Texas, we wandered around Abilene. We visited the Texas and Pacific Railroad Depot. It was built in 1910. The last passenger train to leave the depot was in March 1967. The interior of the depot has been restored to its 1920's decor. Right across the street from the T&P Depot is The Grace Museum. The building was constructed in 1909 and it served as a premier hotel in its heyday. The hotel was closed in 1973 when the boiler failed. It now houses an art museum. We figured we should see the Paramount Theater. It opened...
