Jan 3, 2013 - Finally ... no snow ... and warmth is improving

Buick is still pointed south. Today we drove through Louisville and Nashville and saw several more buildings that could hold a lot of hay ... hey??? Mostly windshield time today. We stopped for the night at Arnold Air Force Base about an hour north of Chattanooga TN. The lodging is located on a dam-formed lake on th .e base ... remote and pristine ... no improvements except the lodge and club ... beautiful. Oh ... and we did run out of snow today ... and the temp got up to 50 ... gettin' better.

Winter 2013

Jul 19, 2012 - July 19, 2012 -- Tullahoma and Lynchburg, Tennessee

July 19, 2012 – Tullahoma and Lynchburg, Tennessee Today, I visited the George Dickel Distillery and the Beechcraft Museum both of which are located in Tullahoma. The Dickel tour was too long for me to take and still get to Miss Mary Bobo’s Boarding House in Lynchburg for lunch so I decided to do it afterwards. Tullahoma is a Native American word believed by many to mean “a land of golden flowers”. More likely the word finds its origin in the Choctaw words for red and rock, and during the Civil War it was said to mean “mud and more mud”. It...

Oct 18, 2011 - Leeds/Birmingham, AL to Tullahoma, TN

We only had about 175 miles to get back to our starting place, my Cousin Anne's house in Tennessee. It should have been an easy day. Our good weather luck (except for the one day in Navasota when it rained all day) had held for the entire trip, but there WAS weather coming today. We should have had just enough time to get there...but we dawdled. I think you have heard me say, or actually seen me write before, that I really wonder if those damn ABC's of touring are worth the trouble to go get the points. Today we took another route up I-59...

Oct 3, 2011 - Official trip start from cuzzin Anne's

We (wisely) trailered the Harleys to my cousin Anne's house near Chattanooga, in Tullahoma, Tennessee. When we left Maryland it was about 45 degrees and raining, so if we had ridden from home like we usually do, we would have been miserable. After a good home cooked meal and a night's sleep, Monday we took care of the chores of unloading the bikes and repairing the trailer wiring harness so we could restore the running lights to working order. Then we drove out to Tim's Ford Lake for a couple of beers and some wings. It appears that the...

Aug 23, 2010 - We're Off!

Joe and Mary arrived at our place on Sunday after signing off at the old jobs, selling the family homestead and shipping all their worldly belongings to South Carolina. We spent a day or so getting Gwen, their family pet, settled into her vacation home for the month with Ben and Katie, picking up last minute supplies and loading the bikes. For those with a more careful and frugal temperament, you will be pleased to know that we even included a set of homemade jumper cables for the bikes, compliments of Dennis. There is something satisfying...
