Nov 30, 2013 - Visit with John and Jan Hartman

On our way to Red Bay we would be going passed some very good friends, John & Jan Hartman. So they invited us to stop by for the night. So we took them up on it. We had a wonderful evening, Jan make us Taco Soup for dinner and we visited. Next morning was the IOOK nets (Sunday). So Jan cooked us all breakfast. Then we went with them and met John's son Brian and his family. Debbie has been friends with Jennifer for a long time but never got to meet her personally. What a wonderful get together. Mileage: 35,256.8 - 35,458.1

Jan 12, 2011 - John & Jan here we come...

Left bright and early from the Wal-Mart parking lot in route to meet up with some friends who will be joining us on our winter trip "John & Jan Hartman". Short time after leaving the Wal-Mart it began snowing. I mean it began some very heavy snowing. We thought what is wrong with this picture "RVs and Snow" should not be in the sentence but it was. At one point we were concerned after hearing some word that Knoxville, TN on I-40 was shut down due to snow conditions. But that was a report from around 4am. Tom decided to continue on to...

Nov 24, 2007 - Happy Birthday Tom!

Saturday, November 24, 2007. Henry Horton State Park, Chapel Hill, TN Happy Birthday Tom! Tom and I got up in Advance, North Carolina this morning around 6:30. Jonathan had asked to sleep in the back last night because there was a street light shining into the front of the RV and he said he couldn't fall asleep. I sleep pretty good on the front couch so we did that. Tom had to drive all day today too and he doesn't sleep well on the front couch so that's how we worked that out. Tom and I started getting us and things regarding the RV...

Mar 23, 2007 - Not AWOL

No, we are not AWOL, in jail or been committed to the funny farm....not yet anyway. We landed in the home area Sunday night, & have been going like a herd of mice every moment since then getting the house vacated & sold piece by piece. By the time that we stopped scurrying each day, I was simply too exhausted to write a journal entry. All I wanted to do was to shower & hit the sack for a few hours before the next day dawned. We have now done the closing on the house itself, & have sold about 95% of the contents. We are still continuing the...

We're Wingin' It

Sep 4, 2006 - #10 - Labor Day Bike Ride

330 miles to go on the final day. We thought that we were going to get caught by some fierce looking storm clouds in Birmingham, but managed to just dodge them. From Birmingham to home was straight I-65. I think we were both ready to end the trip, if in fact we had to be at work on Tuesday as we both did. The total trip; 4 days; 3 nights; 1293 miles; 2 nights, all meals & many miles totally impromptu; 9 deer; 19 turkey; 29 bug splats on the windshield in one day; ample clothes, drinks, snacks & our own pillows from home in the trailer;...

We're Wingin' It

Jul 23, 2006 - Back at Home

Friday night came & went with no further storms. Saturday morning gave us a totally different set of weather than we had experienced during the trip. The temps were moderate, highs in the upper 80's, with comfortable humidity. The air itself had that freshness to it, as though the rains had given all of nature a good scrubbing before moving on. I went into town to get a couple of grocery items for breakfast. Allowing GyPSy Lady to lead me to a grocery store, I found a whole new section of Newport that we had not seen previously in the week....

We're Wingin' It

May 9, 2006 - First Catch-up

Now we know how we will share our travels with our family & friends (this journal site).....now we only have to decide what to do with the fish in our courtyard pond.....does anyone have a good recipe for fried koi???? After having been a corporate CPA/Accounting Manager for 30+ years, maybe it is human nature for me to be overly-anal about making detailed plans, & then following those plans with little if any deviation. The word s-p-o-n-t-a-n-i-e-t-y may be in Webster's dictionary, but it hasn't been in Gary's vocabulary. I am convinced...
