Jun 11, 2019 - Grasslands Canada - another wow!
TRNP Onward Leaving Teddy and his park was a bit sad. We certainly should have planned a day, or two, more there. Coming in a day earlier than we had originally planned worked out well. We received a “Senior” discount at the Medora Musical show Thursday night. Friday’s show was cancelled due to rain and Saturday night was windy and pretty chilly. Had we delayed, we would have missed the fun. The ride from Medora to Grasslands was beautiful. We passed along the north section of TRNP. The terrain is a bit different but equally beautiful. A...Jump to full entry
Jun 8, 2019 - In TRNP - Wow!
I really feel North Dakota, at this time of the year, competes in beauty with all the best. Teddy Roosevelt National Park covers a large area but much of it is not reachable except by horseback with special permits. The original loop road is now two half-loops as a rock slide made part of the road impossible to get through. Now, you do an in-and-out on one half-loop. Then, you do the same on the other. We did that a couple of times and could not spend enough time to see what we wanted to. Yesterday, the temperatures were in the mid 70's....Jump to full entry
Jun 8, 2019 - The first main reason for this trip - Bismarck, ND
Often, when we find ourselves in a new group, someone suggests telling the others one thing no one would know about yourself. For years, I have been able to use the name of the town I was born in. That, likely, ends with this post. I was born in Bismarck, ND. My father was attached to a local Army unit for almost three years. They lived downtown in a pretty swank, for its day, hotel. The hotel was originally named the McKenzie by Mr. Patterson. That was later changed to Patterson after it was found out what a low life politician McKenzie...Jump to full entry
Jun 8, 2019 - Teddy Roosevelt National Park & Medora, ND
What a beautiful ride to an unbelievable place. The national park is a step back in time to the prairies, bison and all creatures great and small. Our first evening, we attended the Pitchfork Steak Fondue and the Medora Playhouse. Dinner was OK, at best, but we enjoyed meeting several people and visiting until it was time for the show to begin. It was all Wild West and fun. Singing, dancing and having a good time was the task for the evening. Same kind of show you might see at Dollywood. No off color or bawdy humor here. Good, family fun....Jump to full entry
Jun 4, 2019 - Door County
Door County is the peninsula that juts out into Lake Michigan. To the northwest is Green Bay, the Bay. To the southeast is Lake Michigan. The land is generally flat with small rolling hills. Our extra tall seating in the RV is a real advantage while touring as cars don’t block our view and we get a better perspective of what is happening around us. It is a great way to travel. We had researched the campground we chose as much as we could but the final judgement is never sure to the same as what it “Sounded like”. Many businesses like to use...Jump to full entry
May 31, 2019 - Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon?
First of all, Molly is loves road trips!!! This will be our first update with real news and a picture, or three. We have had a nice journey, though, not the direction we intended. The first ten days were always to be free-flow but our flow was redirected, mostly to stay away from bad weather. It, pretty much, worked. Day one was, originally supposed to end near Louisville. We decided a more northern route was better. We were both struck by the fields of yellow mustard blooming all along the way in Indiana and parts of Illinois. The weather...Jump to full entry
May 28, 2019 - On the road
Having lunch at Arts and Crafts Center near Berra, KY. Wanted to say “Hi” to our newly joined friends. Thanks for subscribing I suspect we will spend the night somewhere around Louisville this evening. Nothing planned for first several days. First real planned stop is in Medora, ND near Teddy Roosevelt National Park.Jump to full entry
May 24, 2019 - One step closer
I guess an important part of any trip is the making-yourself-presentable stage. This big tanker is all that stands between Arvie and a full spa treatment. I think it is well deserved and a bit needed. Tomorrow will be Rain-X day for the windshields after I clean it with steel wool. Sounds crazy, I know, but it really makes a big difference in effectiveness and longevity. We are excited about getting on the road Tuesday, early if possible. Depending upon the weather, we expect to go through Lexington to near Louisville for our first...Jump to full entry
May 24, 2019 - Kentucky Bourbon Country
We’re now heading north and this morning we entered Kentucky. It’s always so beautiful here with all the gorgeous blue grass. We stopped at a rest stop and the views of the Kentucky blue grass on the properties nearby were so welcoming to the state. Since we were near a Speedco right as we entered Kentucky and we had a relatively short drive today, we stopped to have the oil in the RV changed. Speedco is a great place for trucks and RV's. You just get in line and get the oil changed quickly. We were fortunate that there was no line...Jump to full entry
May 22, 2019 - Nashville
When we got to Nashville, it was extremely hot and humid. From all we were told, this has been an unusual spring with way more rain than usual and now higher temperatures than usual. While Jay set up the RV, Rocky and I went for a walk to the dog park at the RV park. Rocky seemed to enjoy wandering without his leash but it really was hot, so we didn’t stay long. We opted for dinner at home and then went to hear the live music that the RV park provided that night. We relaxed in lounge chairs by the pool as we listened to 2 great...Jump to full entry
May 21, 2019 - Memphis
We continued on for another night to Memphis. Unfortunately, our plans were changed a few days ago, as the RV park we like to stay in is flooded. It’s right on the Mississippi River and right now it’s under water due to the high flood stage. Luckily, we were able to find another place to stay but it wasn’t as close to the city, as our original place. So our plans to go into the city of Memphis for dinner will have to wait for our return trip. Instead, we opted for an afternoon at the movies to relax and enjoy the Memphis suburbs, since...Jump to full entry
May 21, 2019 - Nashville Arrival
Fairly short run from our Harvest Host stopover at Three Rivers Farm last night. We stopped for fuel, then arrived about 2:30, got site H16 at the KOA Nashville. After setting up, cleaning up, and some pulled pork for dinner, we headed to the Veterans Appreciation show at the Grand Old Opry. Great lineup that included Trace Adkins, Lee Greenwood, Brantley Gilbert and several others. They put on quite a show, with several tributes to veterans.Jump to full entry
