Jun 18, 2018 - Music City

What a memorable and amazing 5 days in Nashville! We have been here before on business trips so we weren’t able to see and do as much as we did during this visit. We stayed at the Yogi Bear RV park less than 10 miles from downtown Nashville so it was an easy drive to visit all the sights the city has to offer. Our first destination was to Honky Tonk Highway located on the lower end of Broadway Street, better known to the locals as Broad. It is a row of old buildings and establishments that contain at least one live stage, cold adult...

Jun 17, 2018 - Day 14 - Nashville, General Jackson

Today, Sunday, we enjoyed a cruise on the Cumberland River in Nashville, TN, aboard the General Jackson, a riverboat – more specifically a showboat. Built and launched in 1985, it resembles a vintage steam-powered riverboat. The boat has a capacity of 1,200 passengers and 157 crew members. She is 274 feet long, is 77 feet tall and has a bright red 24’ paddlewheel on the back. There is only one trip on Sundays. We were seated in the Victorian Theater for a delicious southern lunch buffet of tossed salad, BBQ pulled pork, fried chicken, baked...

Jun 16, 2018 - Day 13 - Nashville - Grand Ole Opry

Oh my! Talk about heat and humidity. But that is the only bad thing about our trip. Today Gary turned 74 years old and we celebrated by him watching golf in the RV and Jean doing laundry (in air conditioning). If only we had brought more cooler clothes and left the warmer ones in Lewis!!! Our touristy event today was the Saturday night live Grand Ole Opry. We tried to find an eatery near the Opry at the Opry Mills Mall. That Mall is HUGE and not a parking place to be found! I think everyone in Nashville took to the air conditioning. We did...

Jun 15, 2018 - Day 12 - Nashville, CabaRay

Another hot and humid day in Nashville, TN. The 94 degrees with high humidity is worse than we see in Florida! We drove over to the Grand Ole Opry to buy tickets for Saturday night’s performance and also ordered tickets for the General Jackson lunch cruise on Sunday. The rest of the day we just tried to survive the day’s temperature discomfort until we left for Ray Steven’s CabaRay for the evening. We each enjoyed a cocktail at the Piano Bar before the 6 PM dinner. I have to tell you, We have never had a tender, melt-in-your-mouth pork chop...

Jun 14, 2018 - Day 11 - Pigeon Forge to Nashville, TN

Today was a travel day, driving 240 miles from Pigeon Forge to Nashville Tennessee all on secondary roads. Other than being a hot and humid 92 degrees, the trip was very nice. What to write about driving along secondary roads? A lot of farmers were haying and we noticed that the dirt is very red here. The wild flowers along the roadside were about like home: Queen Anne’s Lace, Black Eyed Susans, some Daisies, and a blue wild flower we have (that Gary calls weeds) along our roads too. I learned that almost every town we went through had a...

2018 Trip

Jun 3, 2018 - The Planning

This trip has been on our radar for several years. In fact, some of the planning dates back to 2012. It was only in the last several months that the trip became a serious consideration. Numerous travel journals have been studied and compiled. After we decided on the route, travel times were established. This trip follows a schedule and most reservations have been made. As we plotted our course through the Atlantic Provinces, we became concerned about RV caravans and the limited number of campgrounds. Traveling through New England during the...

Jun 2, 2018 - Zac's Story

It was a Saturday morning in March of 2009. We were in Franklin, and I suggested “Why don’t we just go see Zac?” It had started with the Westminster Dog Show in February of that year. I was smitten with the Australian Shepherd and was convinced that we just had to have one. It didn’t take too much research for me to learn that this was not the breed for us, but it didn’t deter my quest to find the perfect dog. After many hours of searching Pet Finders, I found Zac’s profile. “Flat coated retriever, 4 - 5 years old, playful, friendly,...

May 9, 2018 - North to Nashville

Today was a travel day. Working our way north to Indy. All interstate and thankfully uneventful. Until we got to the Grand Ole RV Resort where we had reservations to spend the night. Not really an event, thank goodness, just a little slowdown. We turned too soon and went in the wrong entrance which resulted in us facing the wrong direction to pull through our site. If we had been in the car or on the motorcycle, we would simply turning around. However, in a 45' RV towing a car, not-so-much. Thankfully, the folks at the campground were quick...

Goshen Tiffin Rally

Apr 27, 2018 - Nashville TN

We have escaped from Red Bay, which is the working title of my upcoming book. Monday was another wait day, but we did get scheduled into the paint bay first thing Tuesday morning to get our last lingering item – the window frame – painted. That went well and by about 3:00 we were all done, checked out with the office and officially able to run screaming from Red Bay at first light on Wednesday. We sat outside for our last Happy Hour with James and Connie then met up with another couple, Gary and Colleen, and the six of us headed off for a...

Apr 17, 2018 - Day 2 Fletcher, NC and Day 3 Nashville,TN

We headed north on I-95 and then west on I-26. We normally turn north on I-77 at Columbia, SC, and continue north for entry into Canada at Fort Erie, but this time we continued west on I-26 to Asheville, NC. We found a nice campground about 20 miles from Asheville in the small town of Fletcher. We stayed at Rutledge Lake RV Park. We had a nice pull through site, good wifi, and a clear sky to the south-west to pick up our satellite signal. It was a great Toronto hockey game, with a win over Timmies team. Boston really looks good and is ahead...

Apr 12, 2018 - North Nashville KOA

On the road at 8:15 am. Beautiful sunshine all day with temperatures rising to 27°C, but very windy, with gusts from 40 to 50 mph. Gas prices have ranged from $2.50 to $2.65 per gallon. Not bad. For the northerners who can't convert, that is between 0.60 - 0.70 per litre! Of course that is US currency, but still a lot cheaper!

Dec 22, 2017 - The Heart and Soul of Nashville

Trying to get caught up so I can hopefully keep this journal up to date when I hit the road. And that road is right around the corner. I finished my last shift at Amazon last night. Out of eleven weeks, I had just 4 overtime weeks...and this past one was one of them. My goal now is to try and get back into a wake-during-the-day and sleep-at-night mode. The nights are going to be cold as I travel to Chanute so I sure don't want to be driving after dark. Chanute, Kansas is a major stop on my trip home as that is where my 5th wheel was...
