Sep 17, 2017 - Boomer Sooner and Eastbound

Sorry about the lack of entries since Albuquerque. I've just been having too much fun to write! I left Beverly's around 8am on Friday and put in a very solid day of driving to reach Oklahoma City. I think the distance was just over 550 miles so my GPS said 7hrs and 45 minutes. I don't think that included the many construction slow downs, much less bathroom, food, and gasoline stops; nor did it account for the switch to Central time. By the time I arrived in OKC, made it through some rush hour traffic, and adjusted my watch to the proper...

May 14, 2017 - Montgomery Bell State Park, Tennessee

We left camp very early this morning in spite of the fact that we have a short way to go. We had thought we would have enough fresh water in the tanks to get through breakfast, but ran completely out just before we went to bed. That meant we had to move the RV to the water source before we could even brush teeth this morning! And we decided that, once we were moving, to just keep going and stop somewhere for breakfast. We found a little Mom and Pop restaurant and had a big (if not necessarily especially good) breakfast. We stopped at a...

Apr 23, 2017 - Tennessee in the Rain

Tennessee is certainly a beautiful state--at least what little we could see of it through the rain. There are an astonishing number of 18-wheelers on the Interstates, and they kick up a tremendous amount of water. Makes it very difficult to see much of anything! We stopped at a welcome center in Memphis and picked up a Tennessee map and some other bits of information. Sam got photos of the two bronze statues that were in the lobby: Elvis and B. B. King. This park is heavily forested--would be a great place to come if the weather were hot;...

May 16, 2008 - Despite the Rumors

From Montgomery Bell State Park, just west of Nashville, TN. Despite the many rumors that may be floating to the contrary, we are still alive, kicking (or at least stubbing our toe), & enjoying the simple life. Last Wednesday (05/07), we migrated from Crossville, Tennessee to Franklin, Tennessee, parking again at our home WalMart. Though Brian was working, Heather, Micah, Joelle & Isabel came over & had dinner with us Wednesday night. Thursday we stayed busy all day having lunch with Brian, getting dental cleanings & x-rays, getting the...

We're Wingin' It

Sep 6, 2007 - Day # 2

Left Red Top Mountain on the 6th around 10 AM, Made it to Montgomery Bell about 4pm. Had to manuever around a fallen tree across 70 and lost the new lavratory vent cover on a low tree limb. At least I know how to replace it. The RV park at Montgomery Bell is all back in, and not many at an angle. Had to ask the park host wich would be easiest and did manage to wiggle it in without any damage after almost an hour. Never take an RV to Montgomery Bell. Went to the Dickson County Fair and they were having a 4X4 Street Truck pull. We called...

Nov 5, 2006 - Pictures, Pictures & More Pictures

During our entire camping lives, we have probably spent more time at Montgomery Bell State Park, 30-40 miles west of Nashville, than we have at any other single campground. We were there when Brian & Kevin were pre-school & elementary school ages. Oh, how we have progressed. I remember so vividly the picture that we have somewhere amongst the keepsakes of our campsite during one of those trips. I'll try my best to describe the picture for you to imagine. We had a 1981 mint-green Honda Accord, which was our "nice, family" car. Honda...
