May 19, 2016 - Graceland!

We are actually staying at the Graceland RV Park, right behind the Heartbreak Hotel and across the street from the house! We walked over to the house this afternoon & really enjoyed the tour - they give you Ipads so you can hear narration about the rooms and also see clips from old Elvis home movies & other information - very interesting! We saw EVERYTHING on the tour - were pretty tired by the time we were finished! Went out to dinner for some of Memphis' famous ribs - delicious! We are listening to the Elvis channel on Sirius radio -...

Flying J; West Memphis, AR (214 miles $60) Flying J; Fairview, TN (191 miles $1.929 per gallon $29) Lodging: KOA, Nashville Still having an issue with the air alarm. Mike will have to pull the dash off when we get to our destination. Record rains have soaked the fields and the farm lands of central Arkansas until they look like huge lakes and swamps. We passed a power line easement that looked like a river for as far as you could see. The rivers and streams are muddy, moving fast and way out of their banks. We fell into a convoy of 20 plus...

Dec 22, 2015 - Gracelands & Memphis

Later start this morning as we didn't really need to be anywhere early. Left at 8.30am with our first stop - Waffle House. Check out the table full of food for only $38. It was delicious! Next stop was Gracelands. Went to buy tickets, only to find that the mansion is closed every Tuesday for cleaning. Oh well, we looked at the house from the outside, but paid to look at his planes, automobiles, archives & Hawaii museum. I'm pleased that we went, & Zachary was very happy, but it was sad in a way that every single part of his life is on...

Dec 21, 2015 - Road Trip!!

Went out last night to a restaurant called Caney Fork which was very unusual in looks & also menu. Ji took some sneaky photos for me. We could have ordered Fried Gator Tail, but we stuck to shrimp & ribs - which were delicious! We left Nashville this morning at 9am & started our epic road trip! It took 4.5 hrs to travel to Memphis & then on to our accommodation at Horseshoe Casino at Tunica, Mississippi. This is 30mins out of Memphis. After we checked in, we found a buffet restaurant down stairs. It was only $60 for the 4 of us, & the boys...

Nov 18, 2015 - Elvis! Graceland! OMG!

What a day! So glad I got to see this place it's unbelievable! The whole thing is so planned out and there are so many things to look at and so much of it is in the original condition. We spent 4 hours there. I could have spent longer though! I had stuffed up at home when buying the tickets because most of my websites had converted the costs to Australian dollars and I thought the price for the VIP tour was good so bought it for us but it wasn't until I saw my credit card bill that I realised it was US dollars but it was so worth it. The...

J in the USA!

Nov 17, 2015 - Memphis

We had a sleep in this morning and then headed to Sun Studios in downtown Memphis. It's pretty hard to believe it was only open for 10 years but produced so many famous singers. It actually wasn't called Sun Studios originally, it was called Memphis Recording Service and Sam Phillips used to cart around a portable recording device so he could record artists. We learnt that he recorded a group called The Prisonaires who were actual convicts who were released under guard to record songs with him and they were so successful, they were given a...

J in the USA!

Nov 6, 2015 - Memphis

From posh Courtyard Marriott in Nashville Green Hills section to the ghetto in East Memphis, what a change in hotels! Memphis Police in the lobby chit-chatting with the front desk clerk and as he's leaving, she's singing 'Stayin' Alive' by the BeeGees to her friend. Whaat? Happy to be on the road, on our way to first stop Crystal Shrine grotto that Brit found on Daytrippers. Man-made in 1938 it's a crystal cave within a large cemetary that depicts the life of Christ. Sculptures and wall murals. Very pretty and serene. Then on to...

Hello Everyone, Today while heading east we crossed over the mighty Mississippi River and into Tennessee! Our destination was Memphis, TN where two attractions drew us near! These two attractions were Beale Street, and Graceland the home of Elvis Presley! We then continued to Beale Street where we walked around, listened to some local music, and at dinner at the...

Oct 4, 2015 - Memphis, TN

We arrived at Graceland RV Park in Memphis early Friday afternoon. After setup and getting squared away we went out for BBQ and ribs. Saturday we went to an outdoor farmer’s market, did some damage there then on to the Metal Museum, interesting. Then on to a favorite BBQ place we found last year and found it just as good as before. Then we made a Walmart run for some essentials that turned out to be one of the more interesting things we did here in Memphis. Today, after L got up around 10:30, finally, we went to see the first house Elvis...

Greetings from Memphis! We spent two days here. We did Graceland on the first day and the Sun Studios and the Rock and Soul Museum on the second day. We could have done them in one day, but this way was easier, and we were not pressed for time. We both enjoyed Graceland – we picked the mid level tour and we were not disappointed. In addition to the Mansion we got to see the cars, planes and a few other things On day two we hopped on the free shuttle bus and did the Sun Studio tour and the Rock and Soul Museum. The tour guide at Sun Studio...

Elden and Bill installed the breaker and the air conditioner works again. We have been fortunate that the temps have been in the mid 80's with low humidity. Around noon we left to visit Elden's great niece. She and her husband live in Collierville which is about 30 minutes away on the Mississippi border. They have a beautiful home on about 1 3/4 acres. After visiting a short while we headed out to Gus's for a sample of fried okra, fried green tomatoes, fried pickles and their famous fried chicken. It was all very delicious. We then...
