Apr 11, 2017 - Memphis, Tennessee

We were excited for the day to begin… Paul Simon’s words "I’m going to Graceland, Graceland, In Memphis Tennessee” kept rolling through our minds as we danced up the street from where were camped. The new Graceland complex had just opened last month and we didn’t know this. The previous buildings are all still there, so finding the entrance to the new place took us a bit of exploring, in behind and around back was the new Gates to Elvis. This complex contains many different exhibits, gift shops, and two restaurants. Our first stop was to...

Texas Again

Apr 9, 2017 - Elvis, we are in town!

As we said, we were up in good time and quickly packed and on the road. When you know you're only staying one night you don't unpack as much, just what you need. We were right beside the main highway, Mike was happy to avoid the backroads today! We laughed as we took the on ramp onto the Interstate highway, there was a sign "NO PARADES"! At least we won't get stuck behind anything that slow, fingers crossed! We have been laughing at our GPS along the way, she does have an unusual way of saying some things. She tells us about golf courses...

Texas Again

Mar 26, 2017 - Almost there

Another really windy day, but we are finally made it out of Texas! We even made it through Arkansas, including a stop in Little Rock at Sam’s Club. While the motorhome was at Camping World NOT getting serviced, it was not connected to power. So we had totally emptied the refrigerator and had to wait a few days to restock (the refrigerator takes a day or two to really cool off). We had done some light shopping but we really like to buy our meat at either Sam’s Club or Costco. We are only about 120 miles from the service center now, so we...

Sep 25, 2016 - There Will Be Peace in the Valley

Since it s Sunday morning, I thought it would be appropriate to title this entry with one of Elvis's gospel tunes. I checked Wikipedia and found an amazing number of songs that the King recorded and many, many of them were gospel songs. So now we are headed to Chuck's stomping grounds. Question, Chuck: Should cotton have already been picked? We saw a field along 40 in TN. Couldn't tell for sure if it had been picked, but I think that is the way it looks with machine pickers. Just crossed the southern bridge across the Mississippi. Until...

Sep 24, 2016 - Love Me Tender, Love Me True, All My Dreams Fulfill

Yesterday we toured Graceland. It was a nice experience. It was not nearly as big as I thought it would be. Elvis bought the mansion from some lady who had received it as a wedding gift from her aunt. We were not allowed to tour the upstairs where most of the bedrooms were out of "respect for privacy." The man is in a coffin. How much more privacy does he need? Maybe that is why there are rumors that he is still alive. Could he be hiding upstairs???? It was great to hear his music which played throughout the tour. No wonder. There was...

Aug 18, 2016 - Elvis, BBKing and Memphis Blues

MEMPHIS BABY! What a great place… Stayed at Graceland RV Park, not the nicest park, but across the street from Graceland, next to the Heartbreak Hotel and offered Shuttles to Beale Street…. Perfect for our needs!! Weather is kinda crappy, so we decided to only stay in Memphis one day. But man we packed a lot in! Visited Graceland, I admit I wasn’t so excited about doing this. I felt it pricey, but if you’ve never done it, its worth the Graceland Mansion tour if not the rest of it. We were there at the end of Elvis Week. August 16th was the...

Jun 29, 2016 - Graceland

Well, been a while since our last entry - most of you know why! Anyway, we left Tucson and headed to Indiana for the family reunion. We decided a little side trip off to Memphis was in order. How could anyone go to Memphis and not stop in to check out Graceland - certainly not us! The place is beautiful! The grounds are incredible, up on a hilltop with loads of room for toys which the man certainly had! The mansion itself was a bit smaller than we expected - but for the time when it was built it was certainly worthy of the mansion tag....

Jun 20, 2016 - Full day of Memphis

We were able to sleep in a little bit today compared to yesterday as we didn't need to be in the lobby for our tour until 9:30am. We had breakfast in the room and were ready to go on time. We waited and waited; finally at 10, I called the tour company to make sure they hadn't forgotten us. They were running behind schedule and spent the morning catching up. We were the first pick-up and there were 4 other hotels to go to after us. So, our tour that was to begin at 10, actually got started at 11. We had to rush over to the Peabody Hotel to...

Jun 19, 2016 - Early intro to Memphis

There are good things and bad things about being early for something--mainly today were bad things. We thought we had until 6am to sleep to get up and off the train by 6:50. Unfortunately, the train was running early and at 5:15am, the car attendant knocked on the door and said we'd be in Memphis in 20 mins! We scrambled to get to up and going. It had been a long, uncomfortable night. For some reason, the bed just wasn't as comfortable as it had been in the past. So at 5:50, we were sitting in the Memphis Amtrak station. We wanted to go to...

Jun 17, 2016 - Graceland

We had a great time touring Graceland! It was on the 'Bucket List', and we are so glad we went! The home is much larger than it appears from the street. In the backyard is Vernon Presley's office and the building that was once a racquetball court (when Elvis was alive). Today, that building houses showcased records and jumpsuits. There is also a building with all of Elvis' gold records.

Jun 6, 2016 - Memphis, Tennessee

Have we only been gone one week? Can it be? It seems so. We left home last Tuesday morning and it's now Monday night. We are on schedule and camped in a state park within the city of Memphis. It's quiet and beautiful and the cost was only $19.39 (including tax). Here's a re-cap of the day. Thirty minutes after we left the Natchez Trace Parkway Campground we arrived at a large RV dealer and service center. We met the service manager and he told us they "might" be able to look at our malfunctioning stair tomorrow. We decided to keep going and...

May 20, 2016 - Memphis

Downtown Memphis today.....started with a monorail ride to Mudd Island, right in downtown. There is a museum dedicated to the Mississippi River - awesome museum, reproduction of a riverboat and many other interesting exhibits. Outside there is a scale model replica of the entire river from headwaters to the Gulf of Mexico & we walked the entire length of the Mississippi! By that time we needed a break so we took a steamboat ride, it was so much fun & very informative. The boat docked right at the end of Beale Street so we headed off for...
