Jul 27, 2018 - Trying To Make Up For Time

We like to take our time going places, I like to do the 2x2x2 (THING). Don't drive more then 200 mile in one day, do get in your campground by 2:00 p.m. and stay 2 or more days in that campground to be able to see the area. I had to cancel out a few reservation for this vacation and we looked at what we wanted to do in the next five days before we had to be in Holland , MI. Why not go to my home own of Connersville, Indiana for a few days to see some friends. We drove another 7 hours and 7 minutes before getting to Chattanoogo koa. We found...

Went through Atlanta without too much delay by taking the 85 bypass on the west side. We could not get the Eagle to auto level and have no satellite reception. They were supposed to have us in spot 105 but put us in 101 with a bank of trees blocking the signal do have cable however. It has rained all day, we didn't leave the Eagle as rain bands from Tropical Storm Cindy are passing through. There were tornadoes near...

Aug 11, 2011 - McDonald, TN

We are back in our happy little routine in McDonald, TN on my brother’s property. We have the best campsite ever with full hookups, a washer and dryer, and privacy. The site is large with nice trees surrounding a lawn that slopes down to a tree lined creek and then a sloping lawn up to my brother’s home. It’s perfect! Our life here is relaxing for the most part. Although we take care of many routine maintenance projects and generally live a boring day to day life, it’s nice to be with family and friends. We will be parked here for another...

Jul 6, 2011 - Museum of Appalachia

When we originally planned to visit The Museum of Appalachia I expected to spend a few hours there. As it turned out we stayed for 6 hours and did not have enough time! The museum is located on 65 acres and consists of over 3 dozen historic log structures and buildings with thousands of authentic Appalachia artifacts. The museum is an affiliate of the Smithsonian. We sure enjoyed our day at the The Museum of Appalachia!

Jul 2, 2011 - Tazewell Speedway - World of Outlaws

Today is the first day of a two day race. It's so hot and we arrived at the track around 3pm only to wait until 5pm for the gates to open. No shade in the grandstands but the sun finally set and the racing started! It was a spectacular night of racing!

Jun 4, 2011 - And another race!

MCDONALD, TN I'm writing this before noon today and it looks like we found another race track with a race tonight! The North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, GA is having their re-opening tonight after having been closed for a short time. I think we'll go and support the new track promoter and do our part to help keep a dirt track open!

Jun 3, 2011 - Another day, another race

MCDONALD, TN We have 2 race tracks located less than 30 miles from where we're staying. Last night was "the big race", a special event, at Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, TN but tonight was regular racing at Boyd's Speedway in Ringgold, GA. Our friends had so much fun last night they decided to join us tonight at Boyd's. The events that occured tonight provided as much if not more entertainment than last night! Almost everything that can happen at a race was presented in front of our eyes including a very bad wreck with a car taking out a...

MCDONALD, TN I have looked forward to this date since October 12, 2010 when Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series released their 2011 race schedule showing a scheduled race at the Cleveland Speedway!! We knew then we would try to make arrangements to be in Tennessee for the race and hoped our family and friends would join us for an exciting night of dirt racing! Ron and I went by the track around 1pm and the gates were open for the concessionaires to set up so we were able to go inside and place all eight seats in a row in the best possible...

May 23, 2011 - Fresh water tank

MCDONALD, TN Last year we arrived here and discovered a problem with the well. We didn't have water for a couple of days until the problem could be fixed. We did not know what kind of problems we may have this year so we filled the fresh water tank in the motorhome before we arrived. As Ron was maneuvering the motorhome up the hill and in to the site I saw water pouring from the front end where the fresh water tank is located. The next morning water was dripping down the front jacks. We thought the tank had cracked and knew we were in for a...

May 19, 2011 - Girls day out

My best friend picked me up today and we spent the day eating, shopping, and I had my hair cut. On our way back home we drove around the area to look at how the cleanup from the tornado is coming along. Some areas are moving along rapidly and most of the debris is cleaned up but other areas seem to be at a standstill. It's very depressing to see the amount of devastation. When we returned to our place my friend's husband called and told her that many of the trees that had had come down on her property had been cleaned up. The clean up was...

May 17, 2011 - Cold and rain

MCDONALD, TN Today was cold with a cloud overcast and occasional spitting rain. We stayed inside and surfed the net all day. Later in the evening we went to my brother’s home for dinner and then watched one of our favorite shows on television, “Dancing with the Stars”. That was it for this day!

May 16, 2011 - Costco and Ringgold

MCDONALD, TN Costco opened a new store last fall in Fort Oglethorpe, GA, about 20 miles from here. We needed to stock up on the basics, not to mention the Kirkland brand coffee is our favorite, so we took a drive on the back roads, first through Ringgold, GA and then to Costco, a few miles north of Ringgold. Ringgold, GA was the site of a devastating and violent EF-4 tornado on April 27, 2011. Most of the damage we saw was at the intersection of I-75 and Hwy 151, exit 348. All of the businesses on the east side of I-75 for about a quarter...
