Jul 2, 2012 - Doniphan, Mo. to Manchester, Tn.

Monday July 2: We left Joanna's sister house at 7:45 this morning to catch as much cool weather as possible. It was a easy drive and arrived in Manchester, Tn. around 3:30 in the afternoon. We are staying at a KOA campground for the first time. It will also be the last time. The campground is OK but is to high priced. We have had better campgrounds for less money that were just as good or better. We are resting up tonight for our last day. We plan on being home tomorrow afternoon. One more day on the road, Jerry & Joanna

May 30, 2011 - George Dickel and Jack Daniels

We are in Manchester for two reasons. No, that’s wrong. There is only one reason and that is Tennessee whiskey; two varieties, George Dickel and Jack Daniels and their distilleries are like night and day. Jack Daniels is big business and their visitor’s center reflects the fact that they are huge. George Dickel on the other hand is almost a craft operation producing a lot less whisky. Dickel has been seen a lot of ownership changes and is now owned by some company in England that kind of leaves them alone to do what they do best – distill...

2011 Explorations

May 25, 2011 - Manchester TN

Today was pretty uneventful – did some breakfast, the tour, lunch and WalMart. We headed out at about 10:00 and grabbed some breakfast at Cracker Barrel, then backtracked to the distillery tour at Jack Daniel’s in Lynchburg. The distillery is in a much nicer area than Manchester is – surprising how many really nice houses there are in this rural area. It was really neat to see the history and old-time process that they utilize. One disappointment though; they don’t allow pictures in any of the buildings during the tour – corporate security...

May 24, 2011 - Manchester TN

Early start today – had to have the bus at the service bay at 7:00 so they could start working on the list of items that I submitted, plus the 3 things I added since the list was made. They addressed all the items, were done at noon and we have made arrangements to come back next week and have 3 of the double-pane windows replaced due to the windows fogging. All we have to pay for is ½ of the labor – they pay for new windows and the other ½ labor. Not a bad deal for a coach with 20,000+ miles and us being the second owners. Tough to pass up...

Apr 19, 2011 - Old Stone Fort Tennessee State Park

We decided to stop at this state park hoping for a pleasant, quiet atmosphere and cheap fees. Ha. We never dreamed we would be treated to one of the most beautiful trails we had ever traversed. Many waterfalls and an abundance of new green foliage with dashes of white dogwoods throughout the forests. The park ranger advised us that heavy storms, wind gusts and possible tornadoes were expected throughout the night. We only got lots of rain and thunderstorms, but no wind or tornadoes, thank goodness. The bridge over the river leading to the...

Apr 17, 2011 - Enjoying Sunshine in Manchester

Today was a sunny day, although a tad cool, which was perfect for us. We took advantage of it to do our chores like the laundry. John greased all the tow equipment. I patched a leak in one of the front windows. We stocked up at the local WalMart. We had lunch at Pizza Hut and met the manager, Dawn, who wanted to run away with us. I told her she needed to either be a mechanic or a cook and she had to sleep with the cats. She said no way could she do the cats. We also met Phyllis who mans the phones at Scenic Roads RV Center across the...

Pretty Damn Nice!

Apr 15, 2011 - Storm Chasers

Our beautiful spot on the lake was reserved for the weekend, so we had planned on moving today, except that the weather forecast was not very good. The guys at the office tried to convince us to stay longer in another spot, but John was anxious to get back to civilization. When we got up this morning, it was windy but there was no rain. We drained the tanks and hooked up Suzy and headed out, breaking one of our rules of travel which is never travel when the weather is unsettled. Sure enough, a few miles down the road, we hit torrential...

Dec 1, 2009 - OTRA - TN - Manchester

12/01/09 On the road by 11:15 for the 150-mile trip to Manchester, TN, about 65 miles south of Nashville along I-24. Traffic, traffic, traffic! I’ve got to get back to the “red roads” and off these interstates. I don’t get to see anything except the highway in front of me (at 60 mph with 12,000 lbs. pushing you down the highway, you don’t dare take your eyes off the road…especially with huge tractor trailers all over the place!!!) And there’s really not much to say about a trip along an interstate. So…………. WELCOME TO TENNESSEE: 12:10 p.m....

Jun 16, 2009 - BONNAROOOOOO!

Ahhhh. Another yesr under my belt. This makes my 5th Bonnaroo children. That means I'm getting old. ;)After no sleep in Knoxville, I drove the 4 hours to Manchester to meet my peeps Brooke, Justin, Erin and Kelley. We all rode in together and set up our compound. From there it was a free for all and a ton of fun! Me and Brooke and Justin were like the three muskateers since we all like the same kind of music. Talk about a party. My favorite shows were Ani Difranco, NIN, The Beastie Boys and Snoop Dogg. (I'll post more pictures from the Roo...
