Oct 4, 2014 - Lexington, TN - Natchez Trace State Park

Our trip from Eddyville, KY to Natchez Trace State Park, TN was an easy 131 miles through the back roads of Kentucky and Tennessee. Most of it was two-lane but in pretty good shape, the worst being the twisty-turny last ten miles inside the state park to our campsite. Our campsite is a very long back-in that is almost level which is great since we don't have jacks to level with. We have full hookups with 50 amps which will make for a nice stay. We will need to run the ACs, at least for the first few days since it is so hot. October is nigh...

Jun 4, 2012 - Packing the RV

Getting ready for our RV trip for the summer! We brought the RV to the TN house a week early this time and that was much easier....especially since at least one family of mice has been living in it! I had removed the bedding and most of the towels, but had to throw away or wash those I had stored in the RV. Also had to wipe out all the drawers and cabinets, wash everything in them and vacuum. Rick had to vacuum the compartments underneath because they had gotten in there too this time. After that was finally done we could start packing....

Summer 2012

Apr 3, 2011 - Home

We woke up early and got a quick start this morning hoping to outrun the high winds that are predicted to start mid-morning. We missed most of the wind, but had some gusts after driving through Memphis. We got home around 12:30pm. It is nice to be home!

Winter 2011

Mar 6, 2011 - Natchez Trace State Park, TN

March 6 This was a long day of driving with 5 hours on the road. Most of the time was spent on the Interstates 30 and 40 on our way to Natchez Trace State Park for one night of camping. This state park was barely open for the season and once again we are just about the only people in the park. It took some time to find a campsite as the park is large, but we found one overlooking a small lake. Once we were set up, we tried a short walk, but it was cold and windy and we soon went back for hot coffee. The rest of day was spent cooking dinner...

Feb 12, 2011 - Time at home

We enjoyed the five days at home - caught up on laundry and got a few things done. We had planned to move the RV to the house on Tuesday or Wednesday for packing and prep work, but when we got home there was snow on the ground. We didn't get above freezing until Friday and even set a record low one night. We also got another 2-3 inches of snow on Wednesday. So... we didn't move the RV until today and spent the whole day packing and getting it ready for the trip. So much for hoping we would have warm weather this week!

Winter 2011

Jan 5, 2011 - Getting ready

Ready to get out of the cold weather and down to Mexico. We are trying something new this trip - only a backpack each, the briefcase with the computer and a beach bag. With highs in the mid-upper 80s we don't have to take cool weather clothes and were able to fit 7 days worth of clothes, toiletries, and the Wii in the backpacks.

Oct 6, 2010 - Getting ready for another trip

We are getting the RV ready for another trip after being home for a week and a half. The original plan was to go to a weekend camping trip then back home before going to Townsend for a week. As we were putting the few things we had taken out of the RV back in, Rick asked if it really makes sense to drive 2.5 hours east for the weekend then 2.5 hours west to get back home before driving 5 hours east to Townsend. So, we changed our plans late this afternoon and are planning to spend an extra week in Townsend - no doubt we can find enough...

Fall 2010

Sep 28, 2010 - Drive to Lexington, TN

Home! This is the last entry for this trip. We really enjoyed seeing the northeast US, the Canadian Maritimes and Quebec province. Our favorite area this summer was Newfoundland and we plan to go back sometime to see more of that beautiful island. The drive home went well and we were happy to find the house intact after being gone almost 4 months.

Winter 2010

Jan 8, 2010 - Packed and ready to go again

Spent the day getting ready for our trip to Palm Desert, CA. We will be renting a house from our friends, Jeff and Roma McCaig for 2 months then going to see them for a couple of weeks before heading home. We filled the car with gas, then filled the trunk and backseat with all our stuff! By dinner, we were ready to go to someplace warmer. We have been below freezing for most of the last 2 weeks and we are ready to be warm.

Winter 2010

Nov 2, 2009 - Home

Left Springfield around 9:30am to drive to Sikeston, MO. The drive went quickly and when we got to Sikeston, we decided to continue driving since Sikeston is only 3 hours from our home in Lexington, TN. We got home around 4:30pm after stopping at The Home Depot in Jackson to buy insulation for the house. We bought 38 rolls of insulation and the RV was a great way to transport it! Everything was in perfect order at home thanks to Tina’s parents watching over things while we were gone. We had a wonderful trip but have decided that 5 months is...

Northwest 2009

Jun 2, 2009 - Final packing

Spent the day packing. Rick took the satellite dish off the roof and found out he has to modify the stand he had built. He packed the Wii and the Tivo. We were glad to find out at lunch that the Tivo works without the satellite dish attached. Tina packed clothes, kitchen and laundry stuff and other odds and ends. Tina was surprised to get everything inside and not have to put some of the appliances in the basement of the RV. Tonight after dinner we went to Tina's parents to say goodbye to them. It was a short visit since Rick had to modify...
