Aug 20, 2013 - The Nashville Scene

We had a short trip today. I wanted to reposition to someplace east of Nashville for a couple of days. I plant to visit an exhibit at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts entitled “Art Deco Automobiles”. Sue told me about it on Sunday when a segment of Sunday Mornings featured the exhibit so I decided to take some time to visit. Look for some pictures tomorrow. My plan was also to visit the Lane Motor Museum also, but for some strange reason it is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. I guess I didn’t plan well enough. I like Waffle House...

Mar 25, 2013 - Countryside Resort

Over the Mississippi, thru Memphis and Nashville and right back into the cold and a dusting of snow, WTH is with this weather. I guess you could say it makes us homesick but I would say NOT. We have passed the half way point of what we estimate we will drive this trip so its all down hill from here on. Most excellent race in Calif yesterday the guy everybody hates won with a last lap pass as the 2 leaders crashed within sight of the finish line and then there was a fight in the pits after the race from one of the sports rough and tumble...

Away we go 2013

Mar 18, 2013 - Tennessee Time

After a St. Paddy's Day party at a pub in Cornelius (on the 16th) I decided to start heading west and north today around 10:30. I was looking forward to a nice little cruise through the Smoky Mountains but a front must have been moving through because it rained most of the day and I couldn't see much. (The truck turned on my trailer lights for almost 3 hours because it figured it was night out, it was so dark!) Anyway, I decided to stop about 6:30 in Lebanon at the Walmart (surprise, surprise). It's about 25 minutes east of Nashville so...

Jul 17, 2012 - July 17, 2012 – Hermitage, Madison, Goodlettsville, White House, Cross Plains, Mitchellville and Westmoreland, Tennessee

July 17, 2012 – Hermitage, Madison, Goodlettsville, White House, Cross Plains, Mitchellville and Westmoreland, Tennessee Today’s 1st stop was The Hermitage, the home of Andrew Jackson, the 7th president of the US. They have an excellent audio tour which is included in the price of admission. I got there shortly after they opened at 9. I had thought that I would spend a couple of hours, but I was there for almost 4 hours. The 1st thing I did was to watch the movie about Jackson. The information in it about Jackson and his times was...

Jul 16, 2012 - July 16, 2012 -- Liberty, Winchester, Belvidere, Kelso, Fayetteville, Lewisburg and Beech Grove, Tennessee

July 16, 2012 – Liberty, Winchester, Belvidere, Kelso, Fayetteville, Lewisburg and Beech Grove, Tennessee Although it was supposed to rain this afternoon, I did not hit any rain until I was almost back to the coach so it was a nice day. I started off going to Liberty to see a mule on a cliff. I thought it was going to be a mule statue on top of a cliff. Instead, it was a mule which had been carved into the side of a cliff. I drove past it twice before I saw it. Dinah Shore (born Frances Rose Shore) was born and lived in Winchester,...

Jul 14, 2012 - July 13-14, 2012 -- Lebanon, Franklin, Columbia, Pulaski, Shelbyville and Wartrace, Tennessee

July 13-14, 2012 – Lebanon, Franklin, Columbia, Pulaski, Shelbyville and Wartrace, Tennessee July 13 – Before I left this morning, I checked weather.com. It looked like it wasn’t going to rain very much so I decided to take off and do my road trip. I had gotten about 20 miles away when the heavens opened, and it poured. I began to wonder if I had made a mistake, but I decided to go a little further and see what happened. By the time I got to Franklin, it had stopped raining. It was still cloudy, but at least it wasn’t raining. The Allen...

Jul 12, 2012 - July 10-12, 2012 -- Red Bay, Alabama to Lebanon, Tennessee

July 10-12 – Red Bay, Alabama to Lebanon, Tennessee July 10 – Today, I took my time getting ready to leave Red Bay. I left about 10 and headed north. It was supposed to rain later today in Tennessee, and I wanted to beat it if I could. It was an easy trip up to Manchester, Tennessee which is where I had intended to stop at the Old Stone Fort State Park. However, when I got there all the spaces were back-in and were lined closely on both sides by trees. Most of the spaces also looked like they would be too short for the coach not to mention...

We stayed Friday night so we could go to the Grand Ole Opry again. I wasn't near as good as the other two shows. There was no big names there. This time we saw: Mike Snider, Jimmy C Newman, Jimmy Dickens, Jesse McReynolds, The McClymonts, the Whites, Rebecca Lynn Howard, Josh Kelley, Jim Ed Brown, T.G. Shepperd and Exile. The best parts were Josh Kelly and Exile. We left early Saturday morning and we are heading to Chicken Creek, OK. We will spend two nights getting there but I won't be posting anything unless something weird happens.

Last night we went to the Opry again. There was a big surprise at the end. Vince Gill appeared and he was not on the billing. He came to the mike while Rascal Flatts was doing their set and he surprised Rascal Flatts by announcing that they were being inducted into the Opry family. Then Rascal Flatts talked Vince Gill into seeing with them. The house nearly came down. The billing included: the Whites, Brett Eldredge, Jimmie Dickens, Terry Clark, Larry Gatlin, Charlie Daniels band, and Rascal Flatts. All of them were great. When Charlie...

Lebanon, Tennessee is the location for the HitchHiker of America International Rally. There are 68 HitchHikers attending this year. The used to have several hundred attend but the numbers have been going down each year. We had tickets to Saturday night at the Grand Ole Opry, so we arrived on Friday to settle in. The Opry had the following lineup: Jeannie Seely, Connie Smith, Bradley Gaskin, Jimmy Dickens, Jimmy C Newman, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Jean Shepard, Charlie McCoy, Holly Williams, Jim Ed Brown, Jesse McReynolds, and Dolly...

Happy Memorial Day to all current and past Veterans!! Dick went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast but I just 'took it easy' and enjoyed a lazy morning. We had rain this morning and hopefully that will be it for today. Actually day turned out to be pretty nice after all. Dick watched old war movies (his plan for a lazy holiday) and I made some greeting cards, played on computer & watched TV. We actually were able to grill those chops that had been thawed for a few days..........
