May 22, 2017 - Long Day One

I like having a plan. I really do. But I am beginning to feel that the main benefit of having a plan is the joy I experience in creating it. If I think of plans that way, with no expectation of being to execute them, everyone will be happier. Especially me. I had PLANNED to have all day Thursday and Friday to sort through items from last summer and hunt for things on my packing list that had not yet been retrieved. Tuesday night after a glorious hike I decided I had worked off enough calories to merit a small serving of ice cream. This...

Sep 26, 2015 - Natchez Trace State Park

We are doing a lot of traveling these days so we decided when we got to this peaceful Natchez Trace State Park, we would just walk around with Sandy. It was nice to be back in the greenness of the Eastern part of our country. God has blessed us with such good weather.

Jul 13, 2015 - I'm Going to Jackson, Turn Aloose of my Coat

Our time in Knoxville was great. We got to play with the grandboys and see just how much they are growing. It’s a lot. Tyler told us he was, 8 going on 14. And I believe him. They are such great boys. Sort of makes me glad I was far enough away to keep from screwing them up. And we got to visit our son and daughter-in-law’s company. Who would have ever thought they would be doing the great things they are, installing cameras in schools to protect students and other public places? I always wanted Doug to be an environmental lawyer, but I...

Oct 8, 2014 - Tennessee Trip - Day 2

September 28, 2014 (Sunday) I had originally planned on going to the Casey Jones village in Jackson when I left the hotel this morning however changed my mind after doing some research and driving by it. So, instead I went to the Cypress Grove Park and did a short hike. When I arrived at the park there were two older men sitting at some picnic tables and no one else was there. I went any way and keep looking over my shoulder the whole time to make sure no one was following me. I’ve been reading too many murder mystery book. I did put my...

Just Tripping Along

Aug 8, 2013 - Goodbye Jackson!

We departed Jackson TN at 9:30 this morning. The temperature is 82 degrees with heavy clouds. This was great for driving! Nashville's Grand Ole Opry is the longest continuously running live radio program in the world. It has broadcast every Friday and Saturday night since 1925. We passed the RV Park in Nashville where we had stayed when we visited four years ago. The Grand Ole Opry Guest Artist 2009 was Lady Antebellum and Dave and I were there! They were absolutely amazing. We both knew at that time that they were going to be a hit. The...

Road Trip 2013

Aug 7, 2013 - Jackson, TN Answer: Christmas Eve 1779!

Question: On what Eve was Nashville founded? Answer: Christmas Eve 1779! I thought this was an interesting bit of trivia... We arrived in Jackson, TN at six central time. We put 431 miles on the Chevy in 9 hours today. It's still not great time but what the hay. We are here safe and sound without any complications! Dave took another look at the generator. When we had the test run before we left the AC worked fine but when we tried it on the road it would not put out enough power to start the AC. We didn't have time to mess with it during...

Road Trip 2013

Jul 31, 2011 - OTRA - TN - Jackson

7/31/11 Another 9:00 a.m. leave time. Boy, we’re getting good at this. Of course, if the weather wasn’t so hot, we’d be leaving later but we like to be in camp and setup by early afternoon. Except for some sections of very bouncy cement roads, the drive was easy…even going around Memphis. I’ll tell you one thing…the driver sure doesn’t get to do a lot of sightseeing!! Bob’s telling me, “Oh, there’s this” and “There’s that” but I surely can’t look to see “this” and “that”, LOL. I did see that we passed Maverick Truck Manufacturing, the...

Jan 3, 2011 - Headed to Texas

We are loaded up and ready to make our first trip. We are very excited. We made it to Jackson,Tn and spent the night in the Walmart. Of course the first thing we do is use my phone to find the Walmart. Turned left off the interstate and started driving. It was suppose to be right at the interstate. After driving about 10miles thou town on small one way streets. We had about decided to turn around. At the next stop light a Walmart truck turned in front of us. Donald said surly if we follow that truck it will take us to Walmart. Sure enough...

Don't wake me up

Oct 11, 2010 - Jackson, TN to Murfreesboro, TN

Marge & Ken left home this pm for the first leg of the South African Garden Adventure w/ Andy & Jason. Click the "Itinery" tab for our schedule. "With just 1% fo the earth's total land surface, South Africa contains almost 10% of the world's total known bird, fish & plant species". They did not have an Ice Age as in the Northern Hemisphere is one of the reasons for this. We stopped at the Log Cabin Restaurant at Exit 143 for supper as it is a favorite of ours- especially for the homemade pies. Finished off the meal with chocolate meringue...

Aug 24, 2010 - Boonville, MO to HOME

We spent the last night of this trip at RV Express in Boonville, MO. It was a self serve park. For $25 had a full hookup w/ 50 amps. Filled with diesel at Boomtown at Benton , MO for $2.599/ gallon. Cheapest of the trip. Arrived home at 7:00 pm. Kevin had called that he was going to the ER because of swelling and redness around his right eye. We found him and learned that he probably had an infection and one of the implants that was used to support his eye after the wreck in 1996 had moved. The Dr. recommended surgery Wednesday morning...

Ken & Marge Travels

Jun 7, 2010 - Off To Alaska

After many, many days/months of checking off list after list we are away on our Alaska Adventure. Marge has all her creature comforts to keep her occupied for the summer. At 3:18 pm we drove out of our driveway and headed North. Arrived in St. Charles, MO after dark (not unusual for us) only to be turned away at Wal-Mart because of a city ordinance limiting overnighters to 5,000 lb maximum! So, out come the Campground Directories and we locate one nearby. Punch it into the GPS and off we go through the side streets of St. Charles. We are...
