Jul 15, 2018 - Tennessee, Part 2

The eastern sky was beginning to glow with the dawn that April morning in 1862 when the sound of sporadic gunfire woke many of the Union soldiers. The men of the 70th Ohio regiment shook the sleep from their eyes and grabbed their muskets. Breakfast would have to wait. Among those men from Ohio was George Secrist, Vivian’s great-great-grandfather. He had enlisted shortly after the start of the Civil War and now he was in Pittsburg Landing, Tenn., on the banks of the Tennessee River. For the past few weeks the regiment had camped near a...

Jul 28, 2013 - The long road home

This morning we packed up our stuff, hugs all around for Dusti, Seamus and Patrick, then said goodbye and we all got on the road. Dusti and boys had about an hour drive home to Huntsville and we had about 3.5 hours to Hornsby, TN....about 60 miles east of Memphis.

Nov 13, 2012 - Big Buck Resort

We originally scheduled ourselves to be here for a few days, but will instead spend one night. Plus a long day of travel: 260 miles, 50 of it off the interstate. Then, there it was: The Mississippi River and Memphis, Tennessee! Great skyline, great bridge, and – what is that pyramid????? (see below) Note: what follows is a long and detailed piece copied from the Internet about the St. Jude hospital! Feel free to skip it if you wish. When late entertainer Danny...

May 26, 2009 - I On to TN

I am limiting photos because they take so long to upload (what is different from downloading?) and I am sitting in campground office...closing in a few minutes!! We had a beautiful drive through mountains to this campground...as you can see, very small, but couple works hard to make it as nice as possible, and it was. We lucked into a Sunday night (and Memorial Week-end) cook-out/covered dish. Good eating. Stayed here two nights. Rained a lot, but some very nice weather, too. A bird, I think called a Killdee, fussed at me terribly the...
