Oct 19, 2017 - Nashville Shores

The truck is good as new...a few wires that needed repair. Mel knows the details; I just know my budget is being challenged! I can say that Carlen Chevrolet in Cookeville, TN treated us very well. Just in case you ever need vehicle service in the area! Back on the road at 2 pm today and only a bit more than an hour to get to our destination. We are booked in at the Nashville Shores Lakeside Resort which is located on Percy Priest Lake. There is not much that they don't offer here. Fishing, water park, water sport rentals, cabins, rv sites,...

Sep 25, 2015 - Day 46-47 Hermitage, TN

September 25, 2015 Day 46 Sevierville, TN to Hermitage, TN We left about 9 am for a 200 mile drive to Nashville via I-40. It rained throughout the night and the first half of the drive to Nashville. The second half of the drive was light rain off and on to the Campground. The drive through Knoxville was congested. We plan to spent two nights in Nashville. We stopped at the Pilot on I-40 exit 238 for fuel. Diesel was $2.209/ gal with our discount. We could find any campgrounds close to the Opryland so we had to stay at the Nashville Shores...

Sep 25, 2015 - Hermitage, TN

We will spend two nights here. The Hills did a tour of the Grand Ole Opry the morning after our arrival and then a performance that night. Mickey Gilly was one of the entertainers. The rest of us stayed around camp and made a trip for a few groceries. The weather was rainy so just stayed inside most of the day. We will head down the Natchez Trace tomorrow. The Trace starts in Nashville and ends in Natchez, Mississippi, or the reverse, a distance of 444 miles.

Jun 7, 2011 - A little R&R

We are here at this Corp of Engineer resting and treading water for a couple days before we finish our drive to West Plains, MO. Seven Points campground is very quiet and shady and we have a view of the lake but it sure isn't big rig friendly. First attempt to back into this site was a failure and then the camp host suggested I pull into the site across the street and then back into our site. We are looking forward to doing, ah, nothing.

2011 Explorations

May 26, 2011 - One of three

One of the three greatest days of my life is today. 38 years ago I married Shirley Anne VanDuzer. It was right then and it is right now. To steal from a Kenny Rogers song..She's the love of my life, she's my lady. We had another interesting restroom night last evening. Don, Jeanne, Shirley and I were huddled in the ladies room of the campground restroom. The weather radio was alive with warnings for severe thunderstorms, damaging wind and hail. Of course, the potential for tornadoes. It just skirted us and we were relived. Don & Jeanne...

May 25, 2011 - Nashville Cats

A couple of days of crazy Nashville country FUN!! Let's see..... we went to the fabled home of country music, the Ryman Auditorium. We had a fabulous back stage tour of this historic structure that was originally a church. We walked "honky tonk row" then went to the Country Music Hall of Fame. What a great place this is. We capped Tuesday evening off with a super experience at the Grand Ol Opry. Wednesday we toured the Opryland Hotel. If you have never been there go! It is hard to describe how beautiful it is with gardens, rivers,...

May 23, 2011 - Nashville, sadly without Don and Jeanne

With great expectations the couples reuniting and travelling together to Nashville, both rigs started out from separate locations. Bob and Don from Lake Lanier. Shirley and Jeanne from Rome GA. We guys had further to travel so the girls were waiting an hour after we left to pull out. 10 miles from the campground Jeanne pulled into a Kmart parking lot and let Shirley off to return an item. Jeanne felt the breaks were suspect and did a lot of testing. The breaks were failing. Jeanne called Don and we diverted south to Rome (about an hour). A...

Jul 21, 2009 - History Lived Here

From Countryside Resort – Lebanon, TN With the weather presenting some unseasonable cooler temperatures over the weekend and forecast to continue on Monday, we opted to choose the one remaining activity that called for a great deal of outside walking. The Hermitage plantation and home to the nation’s 7th President, General Andrew Jackson was our destination for yesterday. Upon starting, we each received audio tour headsets. Throughout the 1,120 acre property, more than 40 sites were marked with numbers allowing you to hear corresponding...
