Apr 1, 2013 - Gardendale, AL to Goodlettsville, TN
Monday, April 1st – We arrived at Nashville Country RV Park – site 35 – around 10:30am. After hooking up the electrical, water, and sewer; we went over to visit my mom at the Phoenix Flea Market. Well, because Nancy, my sister, was not there to take her to work, she was at home. We went to the house to surprise her there. After catching up a little, we decided to go to the Cracker Barrel! For those of you who do not know, my mom is 92 years old and she has a booth at a small flea market in Old Hickory, TN, where she takes orders for picture...

Nov 6, 2012 - Chore Day
Today we started of by doing four loads of laundry then went into Nashville to Neely's Bar-b-que for lunch. It was delicious. We both had the small pulled pork platters and brought enough home for a couple of sandwiches. When we got back, we settled in for the evening (of election results) and got ready to head home on Wednesday.

Nov 5, 2012 - Down to Goodlettsville, Tennessee
Beginning Mileage 36006 Ending Mileage 36359 Nashville Country RV Park 1200 Louisville Hwy Goodlettsville, TN 37072 615-859-0348 9/9/8 We had a long, rainy drive but it was not as bad as it could have been since the rain was light and scattered. The campground is nice with flower boxes at some of the sites. There is a highway nearby but we have had traffic noise for the past two weeks so we are getting used to it. We arrived about 4:00pm set up and then just relaxed the rest of the day.

Jul 18, 2011 - Day 23-Visiting Sharen and Touring Rockome
Day 23-Visiting Sharen and touring Rockome This morning we headed over to Mattoon, Illinois, to visit Suzi’s sister, Sharen. On the way there we passed through Charleston. The highway to Mattoon is also the main street of Charleston. As we were approaching the center of town, we say what looked like a castle in the middle of town. It looked like a genuine medieval castle right down (or up) to the embattlements. However, when we got to it we discovered that it was actually the main and original part, of the Eastern Illinois University. That...

Jul 14, 2011 - Day 21-Last day of Nashville Visit
Today was our last day of our visit in the Nashville area. We will miss our son, Mike, and his family and the opportunity that we have had to do some fun things with them. Someone local had recommended that we go to the quaint town of Cross Plains, Tennessee, while we are here. They said that it is only about 25 minutes north of our camp site and is a really neat, old town from back in the 1800's. Also, they have an old-time drugstore with a soda fountain and everything. So, we decided to give that a try before going up to Mike's for our...

Jul 13, 2011 - Day 20-Relaxation Day
We purposely took it easy today. We've been going at a pretty steady pace and needed to unwind a little before taking off on Friday for Illinois. We did a little cleaning and shopping, bought some fresh fruit at an Amish store and went over to Mike and Melissa's. We did some laundry there. Suzi spent some time in the pool. Ryan and I played around on our trombones with some music that I had brought up. Took a little nap. We brought in some pizza for dinner and spent the rest of the time visiting. Came home and burned a couple of cd's of...

Jul 12, 2011 - Day 19-National Corvette Museum and Grand Ole Opry
We enjoyed a full day today. We started out at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. What a beautiful collection of dreams and information about how they came about and how they kept the dream alive. They had every kind of Corvette imaginable, beginning with a donated first year of production, 1953 Corvette. The interesting thing is that a lot of the Corvettes are there on loan from their private owners. Plus there are many that are owned by General Motors and on loan to the museum. They have actual pace cars from various...

Jul 11, 2011 - Day 18-The Hermitage
Today's first hurdle was getting past the incredible heat...particularly incredible heat for folks who have lived the last 16 years in Oregon getting used to the more temperate, and, usually cooler temperatures. But, having somewhat successfully cleared the heat hurdle, we went on to enjoy a visit to The Hermitage. The Hermitage was the plantation home of General and President Andrew Jackson "Old Hickory". It was a very interesting and informative tour. The Hermitage Mansion was really impressive...it was especially impressive for the times...

Jul 10, 2011 - Day 17-Sabbath in Goodlettsville, Tennessee
Today was pretty relaxed but very hot. We went to Church with Mike and Melissa and family. We enjoyed our visit and people were quite friendly. Hot!? When we came out to the car, the temperature read 101 degrees. Officially, it was a few degrees cooler but what counts is how hot it was where we were. We went back to the coach and changed clothes and then on up to Mike and Melissa's. Mike had a great chicken meal fixed and we enjoyed eating with their family. Afterwards, we joined them for a short family scripture study and then some family...

Jul 9, 2011 - Day 16-Nashville, Tennessee
Today was spent in Nashville acting like tourists. We got a fairly late start because we were going with Mike and Melissa and one of their children had an optometrist appointment. It was very hot. I discovered after a few hours that the heat and humidity was not agreeing with me too well, but.... We arrived about lunch time so we went to a truly authentic Nashville restaurant...Sbaros, or something like that. Its actually a nationwide chain of italian sandwiches, spaghetti, etc. We wandered around the old town area of town. There was lots...

Jul 8, 2011 - Day 15-Mike and Melissa's
Today was spent visiting at Mike and Melissa's house...after moving the motor home. The move was prompted by two elements: 1) I had misunderstood the site number and hooked up in the one next door to where I should have been; and, 2) we couldn't get the coach leveled, even with the automated leveling system. We spent the night walking at a slight angle. So, I was glad to find that I was in the wrong space and happily moved to the correct one this morning. Level was fine. We started out the day with a lightning strike that must have been...

Jul 7, 2011 - Day 14-Cahokia to Greenbrier, Tennessee
So, here we are in Greenbrier, Tennesse (well, actually, Goodlettsville, Tennessee (a close neighbor to Greenbrier as well as Nashville, though not so close). We left from Cahokia around 10:30, so by the time we filled up outside of town, that put our departure actually around 11:00 a.m. The ETA, according to Matilda (our motor home GPS) was around 4:45 p.m. The roads through Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee were pretty much awful. There were nice and welcome exceptions but few and far between. For the most part it was from one pothole to...
