Jul 31, 2018 - Kentucky, I underestimated your beauty!!

Kentucky rolled out the green carpet for us! Any apprehension I expressed was totally misdirected and unnecessary! When we entered the state of Kentucky as we got off the ferry that delivered us across the Ohio River, Kentucky was gentle, rolling and gracious! It turned out to only be a short trip thru the state, but none of the fears I had eventuated or even suggested it was going to happen! I am such a putz! We started the morning rather slowly. The humidity was unbelievable last night! It was so humid, the AC couldn't keep up with it....

Jul 27, 2017 - Fort Donaldson

July 27, 2017, On the road again, headed to Dover, Tennessee, in the Northeast Corner. We get away around 8:30 and hit commute traffic right away. We are able to detour around most of it and head North. We will be staying at Land Between the Lakes Recreation Area in the Piney Campground. Both the Garmin and the DeLorme have a hard time finding it, but by carefully watching the road signs we make the right turn. The campground is run by the US Forest Service and our Golden Age Pass gets us a break on the price. $18 with 50amp service and it...

This park is wonderful from a birdwatcher’s point of view because there are wading birds on the shoreline of the lakes, warblers, and wood dwelling birds like thrashers, robins and woodpeckers of all varieties in the woods, and field birds like bluebirds and chipping sparrows. During our paddle,...

Aug 26, 2011 - Land Between the Lakes

Some days ago, we met a couple from Florida that recommended we drive up to Land Between the Lakes (LBL), as it was one of their favorite places. We had time in our schedule, so we decided to up and are glad we did. This area is really beautiful. Partly in Tennessee, partly in Kentucky, Kentucky Lake on the west, and Lake Barkley on the east. We are parked in the Piney Campground, 50 AMP full hook-up for $26.00 with my Senior discount. Back in the 1800's this area was settled by Scotts-Irish immigrants. Land was cleared, and farms began...
