Oct 16, 2017 - Back to work at the property

We went to the supply house in Athens and bought the PVC we needed for the sleeves, and our contractor Tim provided us the labor to dig and install the sleeves up into the building wall. His son Shaun and grandson Casey did a really nice job of installing the L's with caps to keep the dirt and concrete out. Meanwhile, I bush hogged the North 40 and the South 40. I don't know if they are really north and south on the property, but that's what I call them. So, we worked for two more days, got the property all cleaned up, and there wasn't...

Oct 15, 2017 - Back to the Lake

Today, on Sunday, we left Rutledge Lake (Asheville) a drove back over the mountain into Tennessee again, on I-40 and I-75 south past Knoxville and back to our area where the property is and our spot on Lake Chickamauga where we like to stay. We had to come back to check on the X-Mark lawnmower which is in the shop in Athens and the progress on the pole barn. I wanted to get the PVC sleeves, for the well lines and the electric lines stubbed up from the ground into the building before the concrete floor is poured. We were afraid our...

Aug 21, 2017 - Eclipse Day!!

The eclipse was awesome, everybody gathered lakeside at the pavilion to watch, we all had our viewing glasses and it was another party…the day after the real party…the pre-eclipse party with the lecture and the band. I've got to say, it's quite an experience when it gets completely dark outside in the middle of the day. Even the crickets or tree frogs start chirping. Everybody should get to see one in their lifetime! However, I just want to say one more thing about eclipse day. You would think it was the biggest event of the century (maybe...

Aug 20, 2017 - Pre-eclipse day at Blue Water

We had to cut our work at the property short today, because there was a lecture at the campground about the eclipse at 6 PM, and a party, with a band. We were tired and discouraged anyway because the grass and weeds got the better of us out at the property, so we needed a break. I've mixed in some pictures of the other section of Blue Water Resort & Campground, down the hill, by the lake. As I said before we're staying in the upper part this visit, but when we were there last September, we were lakeside, which is the prettiest part. So...

Aug 18, 2017 - Working at the property, Decatur,TN

We’re just working at the property for today and tomorrow. When we got there though, we had a major setback. When we left last time, we had the bright idea to block the door of the barn (inside) with the Kubota tractor, so no one could steal the XMark lawnmower, then we took the battery home. Well, we brought the battery back, it should have been fine, but now the tractor won’t start. We spent almost two days trying to get it started, unsuccessfully, then I hit upon wedging it backward from the doorway with a rigid pipe I had (the bucket...

Aug 17, 2017 - Blue Water Resort, Tennessee

We had an easy day to Dayton, TN, except for getting around Nashville, to our campsite at Blue Water RV Resort and Campground on Chickamauga Lake. We’ve been here before and it’s one of our favorite places to camp…plus it’s near our property in Decatur, TN. We were lucky to get a spot because the total eclipse is on Monday the 21st and there won’t be ANY campsites, rooms, or accommodations near the path of totality until it’s over. We couldn’t get a space down by the lake, but this year they opened the upper campground and lodge. The...

Sep 25, 2016 - Blue Water Resort

We came back to our favorite place to stay in Tennessee at Blue Water Resort in Dayton, on Chickamauga Lake. We're going to meet a contractor to start building a pole barn at the property and meet Rob (our nephew who lives in Md.) who's picking up our Rockwood travel trailer to give it a new home, since we have the motor home now. We're also planning to do some fishing and show Rob everything there is to know about the trailer.

Apr 20, 2009 - Settled In

From Caney Creek RV Resort, Harriman, 40 miles west of Knoxville, TN. Everything is a-perking along quite well, not overly exciting but fairly calm, relaxing & enjoyable. I have now settled fairly well into the routine of my responsibilities here in the campground, fully enjoying being involved & interacting with the guests. There are still a few situations on which Richard (my co-host), the front desk & I are still working to fully understand the right solution but we are making progress with shortening the list as various situations...

We're Wingin' It

Oct 9, 2008 - Day Thirty-Three Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee

We set a personal best today, 3 states in one day! Left Metropolis, crossed the Ohio into KY. Thoroughly enjoyed the Land Between the Lakes. Felt very different from typical southern landscape and wildlife. Close enough from home for anyone to come and see buffalo over a weekend. Clarksville is a beautiful city on the Cumberland River. We had not been drinking, but we swore we saw pink elephants in Clarksville. We took pictures. Do they look pink to you? The Grand Ole Opry was a disappointment. Smack-dab in the middle of a shopping mall...
