Apr 23, 2017 - Heading to Lexington, KY

.....in the morning. It has rained on and off all day. Played some gin rummy (Sharon won 2 out of 3 ...... grrrr), watched some movies, read and just relaxed. Sharon had a great dinner of chicken and noodles, for us. There are still 4 other Fuses here. We will head out in the morning around 8:00 and the weather should be better.

Apr 22, 2017 - MORE rain !!

The rains continue! BUT ..... the weather did cooperate during times we went back and forth to the campground center for our programs, meals and entertainment. A very informative day with a representative from both Winnebago and Ford speaking, along with the input from other owners. We had 19 Winnebago Fuses here and two non-owners that wanted to hear more about the Fuse. Mid afternoon we all went to each other's RV's to see modifications and additions that other owners have made. We had some country music entertainment after dinner but...

Apr 21, 2017 - Rain drops keep falling ......

The rains came today but amazingly, did not interfere with any plans. We headed out at 8:30 to make a grocery run to Walmart, the closest store 15 miles from here. It did rain this afternoon but we simply took a nap and the rain was over by the time we headed to the 5:00 pot luck gathering. LOTS of great food! Lee, the project engineer for our Winnebago Fuse, arrived in a prototype, gas engine Fuse. A nice young man with lots of answers to the many questions we all have. He's doing a presentation and then fielding a Q and A session tomorrow...

Apr 20, 2017 - In the SMOKIES !

We headed out from the Magnolia RV Park about 9:00. The morning started off with fog but it lifted quickly to expose clear blue skies. About 3-1/2 hours of travel expected traveling up I-26 to I-40 at Asheville and then on toward the Smokies. By the way ...... we've seen it spelled both SMOKEY and SMOKY. We've seen deisel fuel prices from $1.999 to $2.799 ...... quite a difference. All was well when we turned off of I-40 onto the Foothills Parkway for 6 miles to Route 321 which would take us to our campground. Unfortunately, route 321...

Oct 23, 2016 - Hen Wallow Falls & Max Patch

Sunday morning, we broke camp and drove just outside the campground to park at the hiker parking. From here, we got on the Gabes Mountain Trail and began hiking towards Hen Wallow Falls. Near the start was a footbridge over Rock Creek, the trail from the campground intersecting just past. From here, the trail was mostly uphill, but gradual, so not too strenuous. A pleasant relief after the past couple days' hikes. In about 2 miles or so, we reached the split, where a spur trail leads steeply down to the base of Hen Wallow Falls. The water...

Oct 22, 2016 - Mount Cammerer Hike

Saturday morning, we woke up to a very cold morning in the Smokies. After eating breakfast, we hiked to the end of the campground and got on Low Gap Trail heading up the mountain. In less than a half-mile, there was a footbridge over Cosby Creek and then the trail started heading up in earnest. This trail is quite steep, gaining almost 2000 vertical feet in 2.5 miles. But it wasn’t as bad Snooks Nose Trail. At a couple points there were breaks in the trees and we could see sleet and ice high up on the summits of the highest peaks. At least...

Oct 31, 2010 - Smoky Mountain Hiking Weekend

Wow, what a weekend. Gene and I, along with several other friends, spent the past three days hiking and camping in Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Our hiking buddy, Herb, really got this event started. He reserved a group campsite at Cosby Campground and between Herb and Gene they came up with a list of folks to invite. Several couldn’t come because of previous commitments, but those of us who did had a fantastic weekend. Herb and Dwight got to Cosby about mid-afternoon on Thursday. Gene took his tent, a little dab of food, and all...
