Oct 16, 2018 - road trip

I am at a KOA north of Knoxville, TN for a few days. I left Versailles after 11 AM because I had breakfast and a walk with Dolores and Toby first. Yesterday was rainy all over Kentucky and Tennessee, so I decided to hang out one more day. It was foggy and started raining once I got to Tennessee today and it is supposed to rain all night. Tomorrow might be better for visiting the Smokies or going back up to the Cumberland Gap or something.

We had another good day traveling from Forsyth GA to Clinton/Knoxville KOA in Clinton, TN, near Norris Lake. Nothing newsy to report, except we received two free large latte from Flying J because the card reader was not working at the gas pump. If this is all that I can report on everyday I will be a happy camper. Linda could write a dissertation about this coffee thing and .keep everyone entertained. I can't convince her to do this report this year, for those who feel strongly about her making a comeback you can encourage her just a little...

Again we wake up to rain. It seems like a good day to go to the Museum of Appalachia. It is about three minutes from the campground. We find out that the museum is all outdoors. Fortunately, it stops raining. We do a lot of walking. There are thirty-six stops on the tour. It is a great way to spend the morning. The Appalachian Hall of Fame and the Display Barn have most of the artifacts. The rest of the village is made up of buildings that have been moved here. The Daniel Boone cabin was built in the early 1800’s. It was not his cabin. It...

We get a very late start. Fortunately, we are only an hour and a half from our next destination. We head west on I40. We were going to drive cross-country but the weather is terrible. We are in a downpour for most of our drive. We cross a time zone. We arrive north of Knoxville before 2:00 Eastern Time. Once in the Knoxville area, the weather turns great. Our friends, Michael and Sandy, used to live in New Jersey but have retired to Knoxville. Michael picks us up at the RV Park. We have a wonderful afternoon touring Norris Dam State Park....

Oct 22, 2013 - Museum Of Appalachia

On Tuesday, Monty and Laurie drove us up to Clinton, TN, where we took a tour of the Museum Of Appalachia. It was really interesting to see how the mountain folk lived completely off of the land so many years ago. Click here (after viewing the above pictures first, of course!) for more information about the museum.

Apr 13, 2013 - Two Museums

After a delicious " two eggs over easy" breakfast, Kate and I drove to Clinton, TN to visit two museums . The first was the Museum Of Appalachia. This museum is a collection of pioneer buildings and artifacts. John Rice Irwin traveled all over Southern Appalachia buying things and collecting stories from the mountain people. Kate and I walked through the village and we could hear the music of "the pickers" who were sitting on the porch of one of the homesteads. The smallest building in the village was Tom Cassidy's house. Tom was an old...
