Florida 2014

Jan 26, 2013 - to Cleveland TN; 17/230

130126-Sat-70128-Left Columbus for the start of our start trip to FL and Disney World and the starting mileage for our trip was 69686. We ended at 70128, for a total today of 440 miles. We left in the snow at 20 degrees and it is now 50 degrees at 6pm. Workmanship isn’t what it used to be. When we left we were out of propane, so we decided to go straight to the Flying J, in Jeffersonville, for gas and propane. It acted like it was missing but it went OK. We got about 300 miles and I was almost out of gas so we stopped at another Flying J...

Oct 18, 2012 - ready to get going

The camper is ready, and all we have to do is load our clothes and hook up the camper to the Pathfinder and head out. I have received a lot of phone calls, texts, and well wishes on Face Book. Thanks everyone for that. Oh, Sally and I also voted today. We needed to early vote due to being out of town on election day, and early voting is a whole lot easier then voting by absentee ballot. Until tomorrow.

Oct 17, 2012 - Getting ready for the trip to Florida

Over the past two weeks Sally and I have been getting ready to head south. The camper has been washed (thanks to the guys at Sta. 3), wheel bearings greased, brake control installed in the Pathfinder, and everything removed from the camper that we do not need. I plan on keeping this journal, to keep my relatives and friends up to date on our trip, and my surgery. We are planing on leaving Sunday the 21st, and going about half way. Then on the 22and completing the final leg of the drive. The one sad part about going to Florida right now is,...

May 6, 2012 - My Own Walking Tour

Must have walked miles on my last day in Chattanooga. I started out at the Bluff's View Art District where I discovered a wonderful bakery during a "sculpture" walk along the river. Tons of families on bikes around here - had to be very careful both walking and driving. I was very early for my 3:30 boat ride so I walked along the banks of the Tennessee River, stopping to sit in the shade every now and then, and finally getting to board the River Gorge Explorer for a 2 hour cruise. This catamaran type vessel is state of the art. When we...

Jan 2, 2011 - Cleveland, TN

We arrived today at the Cleveland, TN KOA. The last 60 miles we had rain showers. Cleveland is just north of Chattanooga about 20 miles. The campground is not the best we've seen. It's muddy and there are a lot of trees so the sun doesn't get in to dry it out. It's like a lot of the old campgrounds in New England. We decided to stay only one night. We are still having to pull our water hose in at night as it is going down below freezing but the daytime temps are warming up.

Back to Arizona

Jul 20, 2010 - 3 States in A Day

Mary and John cooked up a good southern breakfast for us this morning as we wanted to leave around 8 am to drive over to Cleveland, Georgia. It was another great drive up the banks of the Ocoee River till we crossed into North Carolina for a while before crossing into Georgia. Couple of hours of pleasant driving through the beautiful forested area with small and some not so small towns along the way. Now came the main reason for our trip to Cleveland, Georgia – Babyland General Hospital, the home of the Cabbage Patch kid. However, I think I...

Jul 19, 2010 - Last Day in Tennessee

Our last day in Cleveland. Went to a large electronics store (US version of Dick Smith) to look at USB modems. Very Expensive there so went to Walmart where we got exactly the same thing for $30 less. Also thought I had better go shopping to get a back up dress for the wedding just in case the waistline has expanded too much. Dammit, just the same as back home at sale time, almost every other size but mine. Found one at last but with any luck won’t need it. Mary and I continued with a little more shopping and proceeded over to Borders for...

Jul 13, 2010 - Hello Tennessee 2010

Where we ended up today we were uncertain. Left Savannah mid morning and made our way back through Atlanta, then north bound from the city towards Tennessee. Nothing of note during our drive except a quick stop at Macon for a much needed coffee and toilet break. Hit some rain just around Dalton before we hit Tennessee but still made good progress through to the State line and on through to Cleveland. Found the Jameson Inn where we stayed last year and booked in for the evening there and headed on out for dinner before hitting Walmart and...

Oct 6, 2009 - Cleveland, TN

10-6-2009 today we are driving from Tuscumbia AL to Cleveland TN. We drove to Cleveland TN today to stay at a KOA, real nice campground about 1 mile from the interstate. It was a cloudy cool day, but a nice day to travel. Today we drove from Cleveland TN, (a small town outside of Chattanooga TN.) down route 64 for about 40 miles into North Carolina. It was a beautiful scenic drive winding around the mountains and along a lake called Ocoee; this lake was made by the TVA, (Tennessee Valley authority) by damming up the mountain stream. The...

May 30, 2009 - Zipper Won't Zip

From Caney Creek RV Resort, Harriman, 40 miles west of Knoxville, TN Well, our first major holiday weekend while being Campground Host has come & gone. We definitely had an almost full park, with about 20 arrivals on Thursday, 50 on Friday & a half dozen or so on Saturday. With that, we still had about 15 of the park’s 170 sites open. Most of those were in what we call the C loop, the newest but most remote area. A few empty spots were scattered about elsewhere. Once the crowd arrived, they were relatively stable for the full weekend, with...

We're Wingin' It

Mar 18, 2008 - Day 2, Didn't know Tennessee had a Cleveland

Day 2, the girls and I have adjusted to the rythms of Rving together. I'm not used to all the many items that young ladies need in order to survive. but, we have been having fun. Staying in a WalMart parking lot tonight. Had to listen to all the "redneck" comments. I may not feed them tomorrow. If the weather holds out we will take the day to visit the Smoky Mountains. Lin and I spent many a vacation here and it was our favorite place in the world. We always came away from here with a great sense of peace. Number 2 daughter, Melissa, drove...
