Jun 14, 2014 - Bristol Tennessee

Well knocked off a couple more states; forgot about driving through Indiana on our way to Kentucky! Just a note that in the south strip we drove across, very hilly and many valleys. Lush trees and brush – really hard farming as it wants to be brush land, and the hills and valleys make it difficult! So this morning drove to Lexington , KY. Kentucky was a surprise! Hills and valleys, trees, much like driving from Banff to Radium but the trees are deciduous and right up to the road! Near Lexington, it broadened out and there we saw some of the...

Nov 18, 2012 - Rocky Top, Tennessee

Hi Y'all ! Just another quick note to tell all we are quite safe and sitting this morning in one of our most favourite campgrounds just south of Bristol, Tennessee, and not far from the Bristol International Speedway. Rocky Top Campground this time is just being a rest stop after yesterdays 968 Km drive. A quick rundown of past 5 days: Day 1 - Left Clinton, PEI after getting a right turn signal operating (thanks Trevor) and traveled to Bangor through a lot of rain downpours and drizzle. Got to the Bangor Walmart about 5:30 pm, did a bit of...

Jun 22, 2012 - The final days

Wednesday  was the day we were supposed to pick up stakes and head to Tennessee for our final leg home. Change of plans. No Beast no departure. We were ok with staying a few days in TN, but the problem was we couldn't keep the campsite. It was rented to someone else so we had to be out by 3 pm. We could get another site that didn't have the full hook-ups, but having somewhere to go means nothing if you don't have some way to get there. Once again, enter that southern hospitality. The guy from Oklahoma offered to help us out, another...

Jun 18, 2011 - Bristol, TN - NHRA Drag Racing

Here is our update from Bristol. We traveled from Birmingham to Bristol last Thursday. Got off to a late start due to battery problems with the trailer. We stopped in Gadsden, AL and had dinner with our son. It is always good to see him. We are so proud of his police work. The weather at Bristol was much cooler. I had anticipated having to run the generator 24/7 to get AC in heat like we’d had in Birmingham but we were very fortunate. Daytime temperatures were in the mid 80s and nighttime temps were in the low to mid 60s. You have to love...

Mar 20, 2011 - Race Day/Transition Day

Sorry, no pictures today, left my camera at the camper. 3 1/2 hours of round and round with cars starting and ending up at same point and only racing for the 30 minutes at the end. And they are wondering why the stands were empty, gas prices I am sure. South Dakota folks were with us today and enjoyed the race, they head up to Fredericksburg and DC tomorrow. We're heading up to Louisa, VA tomorrow (Small Country Campground) and may see them on Tuesday. Worn out from all the fun this week, hope for rest for a few days.

Mar 19, 2011 - Nationwide Day

The racing has started so that means the week is a lot over. Good weather today but the racing was boring. Oh well, good day with the kids (that's the front row bunch in the picture) and a bunch of friends. Hope weather holds for tomorrow and the racing is a bunch better.....we'll see. Did I mention that Danica was racing, came home and watched all of her commercials again.

Mar 18, 2011 - Prerace day

As you can see we had a lively afternoon with our South Dakota family. This is not typical of what goes on up here, but this cousin just happened to have a little too much of the shine. Little shopping, little drinking, and a whole lot of talking......plus a lot more people coming into the campgrounds. Race day, Danica day (she called me today and asked if I would ride with her) tomorrow.

Mar 17, 2011 - South Dakota Arrives

On a beautiful day in Tennessee, we got visitors from South Dakota and the women actually came off the plane like this. Dee and Hugh and Kay and Roger in from the snowy Northern country.....and they actually saw snow as they were leaving their state. Good to have them down and good Mexican food tonight. Close to racing time so campers are coming in today and tonight, neighbors are getting tighter. Shopping and visiting tomorrow.

Mar 16, 2011 - Cloudy, Windy, and COLD

I know I have said that tomorrow and Friday are going to be in the 70s, in fact forecast for 72 tomorrow and 78 for Friday, but today was not a day to show us that. We're expecting below freezing tonight so the day tomorrow will have to hustle to get in the 70s. Stayed in all day except to welcome Rich and his camper and to get him set up. Supper with Sherry's sister, Patty, and brother, Tim.

Mar 15, 2011 - Lazy Day in Bristol

Lots of rain, small amount of sunlight makes a good day for being lazy and letting rain on the roof put you to sleep. In between rains we did visit family cemeteries to visit and leave a few flowers, good for a rainy day, and ended the day over supper with sister Sindy. Pictures show our spot at the campground, some would ask if the barn is where I was born and I would respond....could be. As you can see from the pictures, campers are scarce right now, we have hopes that we will fill up a lot over the next few days but we'll see.

Mar 14, 2011 - Bristol Baby

Day 1, travel day was a misty, wet, and dirty day for the camper. Got set-up fairly easily but having not camped in 5 months, had a little trouble remembering to do everything. We have 2 neighbors in our campground and both have a grand-baby with them, something not commonly seen at a racing campground. As usual, campers have moved in to take prime or favorite spots. Wasn't muddy here but some of the surrounding campgrounds look like they might have a little mud to contend with, and rain is forecast tomorrow. Rest of week looks good with...

Aug 21, 2010 - It's Bristol Baby

Girls showed up Thu nite in time to watch Hauler parade always a favorite. Friday loomed humid and hot and then it rained torrential. then about 4 it eased and we were racing by 730(Kyle Busch again) and by 11 it was pouring again. Saturday nice all day and...
