Aug 23, 2015 - Race Week

Full week of racing, got in Saturday, 8/15, and had our first few days of rainy weather but the racing gods took over Friday, gave us a good day and a beautiful, hot, weekend, cornhole was very sweaty. Started the weekend off with more campers than we have had in 5 years and kept building through the week, looked great to see the camper lights at night. Truck race Wednesday took a while to get in but dryers took care of track and got a good race in. Friday and Saturday were the most attended races we have seen in probably 4 or 5 years and...

Aug 25, 2013 - Saturday NIGHT Racing

BEST race in many years. Started out with good cornhole matches at the camper, bar-b-que chicken legs, Hank Williams Jr concert, the clydesdales, a chariot for the coliseum, good driver intros and a really great race with the final laps door to door. AND Sherry and Michelle stayed for the whole race. While we have been known to wear some crazy headgear, out friends from upstate New York brought that to a new level, see picture (damn yankees). About 1:30 we had the honey wagon start pumping out the port-a-johns, don't ask me why, and woke...

Aug 24, 2013 - Friday Racing

Nice day in the campground with bunches of friends joining us. A Busch race but with a pretty sunset and lousy finish. Funny story after we got back and discovered our cooler had been stolen by a bunch of ETSU students having a pool party, in a sub-division next to us. They were dumping the coolers in the back of one of their cars, I guess to take back to school. Our resident campground cop from Atlanta saw them as we got to camper and he and Rich, naturally, went running off after them. After getting his breath Rich shouted for them all to...

Aug 20, 2013 - Starting in Bristol

We have begun our fall trip by going East (is that wrong to go to Vegas) on Friday, 8/16, to Jefferson City to watch Haley Volleyball at Carson Newman on Saturday. Onward to our Red Barn in Blountville later in the day and have slowly watched the campers come in, still not crowded, but truck racing tomorrow so hopefully more to come.

Apr 18, 2013 - Leaving Rocky Top CG heading for Candy Hill CG in Winchester.

Landed here at Rocky Top yesterday afternoon, drove through a couple of hours of heavy rain but it cleared just as we arrived so was very nice late afternoon and evening. Probably that's why I didn't update until this morning...was too busy talking to other campers and the new management. Rita is actually sleeping in this morning, I think I'll just leave her alone and leave a bit later. She deserves it having to put up with my driving all day. It rained a bit through the night (wet BBQ table) but is nice (overcast) now so will be hitting...

Nov 23, 2012 - First night camping

11/23/12 Rocky Top Campground True to its name, sites level with patio and picnic table. Got to 63degrees today, down in the 40's tonight. More traffic on I-81 today, no delays. Passed by Abingdon, VA but decided not to stop, w/o a plan we seldom find it's time we'll spent.

Apr 15, 2012 - Rocky Top Campground, Blountville, Tennessee.

Hi Y'all ! We have landed at our Most Favorite Campground 'Rocky Top' just south of Bristol and not too far from Bristol Raceway. They've got the most fab Wash rooms and we both just have to have our showers there, so clean and well appointed. Rita say's that they only need a few more shelves in the shower for holding all those slippery bottles of shampoo and conditioner. The Campground last night became one of those late night family, have fun on the weekend campground experiences. Especially after the next door Buddy , a real 'Good Old...

Nov 13, 2011 - We're here in Rocky Top Campground, Tenn.

Hi Y'all Just another note to inform you we are at Rocky Top Campground, just a few miles south of Bristol, Tennessee. We were supposed to camp tonight in the Shanandoh Valley but when we got mto the gate it was closed until April 1st. Well this Dude had no intention of waiting for the gate to open on April 1st so I turned the rig around in the middle of the road....Did you ever try to turn a 31 foot 5th wheel around on a country road??? Well, I did it!! We then traveled the distance we were going to do tomorrow and landed here in Tennessee...

Apr 15, 2011 - Just South of Bristol, Tennessee

Hi Y'all We have put in another day on the road with only one (maybe two) instances. It has been a wonderful overcast day. We were needing gas... we pulled off the I 75 went directly to a Service Station and filled up. Seems quite simple to head, eh? Pulling out of the station was when the problem began. We had to get to the other side of a divided highway to return to the Interstate. I followed the simple directions of the Knuckle-headed GPS which told me to turn right, turn right and turn right then left to the far side of the highway....

Oct 14, 2010 - Tennessee Two Stepping

When I woke up this morning the rain was still coming down, and the thunder still shaking the trailer. By the time we were ready to roll it had pretty much stopped but the cloud cover was still very low so we forego the Blueridge Parkway for the freeway, I-81, to our destination at the Bristol/Kingsport KOA in Blountville, Tennessee. We no sooner hit the freeway when we came across an accident in the north bound lanes, a Fed-Ex tractor trailer had taken out a huge section of guardrail and was hanging over the bank. The north bound traffic...

Jun 29, 2010 - Day 16

Left Pigeon Forge this morning and drove only about 100 miles. Stopped at a great campground in Blountville, TN called Rocky Top. What a great decision. Put out our lounge chairs, sat and read our books and napped and relaxed. We both needed a down day and it was finally cool enough to sit out and enjoy the beautiful country.

Nov 17, 2009 - Rocky Top Campground, Tennessee

Hi everyone! Well we have traveled from The beautiful Shenandoah Valley in Virginia to a Campground just south of Bristol, Tennessee. All you NASCAR fans will recognize Bristol as being one of the tracks used for their races. We missed the race last weekend but I listened for awhile on the radio........ remember when we used to do that all the time....... especially the World Series Baseball? But when I found out that Jr. was limping around the track I turned it off to do more important tasks.... like sleeping. If you want to see the...
