Feb 27, 2017 - Rocky Top Tennessee

It was cold last night. The temp got down to 28 or so, but it was warmer by the time we got on the road this morning. It was a dreary drive down I81 with lots of clouds, but the further south we got you could see signs of spring in the trees. Daffodils were also blooming in the median strip and along the roadside. We entered Tennessee today and stopped for the night at the Baileyton RV Park. We've stopped here several times in the past and it's a nice overnight location. Tomorrow it's off to Nashville where we'll be staying for a couple of...

Oct 12, 2015 - Crowded in Baileyton

We finished up Ed Heaton's Photo Workshop in the New River Gorge area yesterday morning. We spent 3 days (early mornings and nights) in the New River Gorge National River area and Babcock State Park capturing some of the iconic features in this part of West Virginia. Since I have so many pictures (what a surprise), I'll publish a group each day for the next couple of days as we traverse from West Virginia to Georgia. Our first stop is Baileyton, TN. I've stayed in this area on 4 or 5 previous occasions usually at the Baileyton RV Park, but...

May 3, 2015 - Familiar Surroundings

It was surprisingly cold last night as I froze my a$$ off before getting up to put a blanket on the bed about 0400. Ringo was surprisingly active last night running around the bed and jumping on and off the bed, pretty much keeping me up the remainder of the night. Not sure if he was cold or he's just a nocturnal cat. He was able to sleep under the covers all day as we drove down the interstate. I need to get him so he stays up during the day and sleeps at night. Almost as soon as we got on I81 this morning, traffic came to a slow creep. I...

2015 Texas Trek

Nov 9, 2013 - Back to Baileyton

After 3 weeks at River Plantation, we finally started the trek north toward Delaware today, but not before going to one more show in Pigeon Forge. Last night we went to see the Soul of Motown at the Majestic Theater. The theater was taken over by the Red Hat Ladies. There must have been 2 or 3 busloads of them. The show was a group of 4 male singers performing the hits of the 50’s and 60’s from Motown groups like the Platters, Temptations, Miracles, etc. It was a great show and the Red hats provided a lot of life to the performance when...

2013 Fall Escapade

Aug 22, 2013 - Busy in Bristol

Not much to report today as we pretty much kept to I40 until just east of Knoxville where we started our northward leg on I81. I needed to make a strategic decision today on direction because there’s a NASCAR race at Bristol and most of the camp grounds within easy driving distance of the track were full, requiring 3-day minimum stays, or jacked up their prices by a factor of 2 or 3. I could go further east on I40 toward Asheville and then head north through NC and Virginia sort of the same route we took this spring on the way home from...

May 27, 2011 - The ref called us for travelling

A not such an obscure basketball (Isss) term but appropriate because we are travelling again. After wearing out Nashville, we are on our way north east. Had a very nice anniversary day and evening outside of Nashville. We moved to a campground north of the city because we did not want to travel into the storms. We learned a big lesson in Arkansas and Mississippi. So we opted to stay another day but this time away from the mosquitoes that were rampant at the state park. Lo and behold, Don and Jeanne's camper broke down on their way to get it...

Sep 2, 2010 - Baileyton, TN

We had a wonderful time in Washington, DC last weekend attending the Glenn Beck Rally. I think that there were more people there this year than at last year's Tea Party March. It is estimated that 500,000 people were in attendance. The crowd was very peaceful and friendly. There was one little lady sitting next to us that was 81 years old and said that she wanted to attend one rally before she died. She picked a good one! We also met a very nice couple that invited us to park our motor coach in their yard in Louisville, KY on our way to...

Sep 1, 2007 - Tennessee, Baileyton, Part 2

By the time we got Tristin back and we were all buckled up we didn't really feel very adventurous. We drove on for an hour or so but our heart wasn't in it and so we decided to pull over at the next campground we came across and that's the story of how we made it to this lovely campground in Baileyville which really is in the middle of nowhere. It's lovely not because it's fancy or has particularly nice views. In fact it's quite plain and the sites are closely packed but the people are very fiendly, the bathrooms are the best I've seen on...
