Apr 29, 2020 - Athens, TN - Over-Nite RV Park

Our trip from Red Bay, AL to Athens, TN started at 7:00 a.m. central daylight time, covered 256 miles under cloudy skies for us to arrive a little before 1:00 p.m. eastern daylight time. We left that early as a storm system was coming in and we wanted to avoid it if possible. Fortunately that worked out and we managed to get here about an hour before we had rain here. Traffic was light in some areas but surprisingly heavy in others. Chattanooga was its usual wall to wall trucks. We are staying at the Over-Niter RV Park which is one of the...

Apr 4, 2014 - Friday, April 4, 2014

We departed the I-75 Campground at 8:45 am, kind of held off leaving to early so we could miss the great Atlanta traffic jam, we drove thru Atlanta around noon which is a good time to miss the early and late traffic. We did stop in Jackson GA at the Flying J to feed the beast, she does get thirsty at times. We drove until 3:00 pm and found another overnight campground in Athens Tennessee. This was not as nice as the other one because they didn’t have cable but it was only $24.00 per night. Another night of roughing it, open up the slides...

Jul 12, 2013 - OTRA - TN - Athens

Today's journey was a really short one. Only one stop and that was at a rest area to get my daily geocache and to visit the "little room". Pulled into the Over-Nite RV Park around 1:45 p.m. We're going to stay here for a week since our next stop only honors Passport America (50% off regular rate) from Sunday through Wednesday. It's an okay park. Nothing spectacular ... but then again, when have we ever stayed in a "spectacular" park?? There are only 3 sites for short-term stays. Most of the people here work in the area...at the power plant...

Apr 16, 2013 - Two Tours

Cozy Joe's Cafe was our first stop this morning. For some reason Kate and I did not feel "cozy" so we left and started our drive to Athens to visit the Mayfield Dairy Farm. Mayfield is known for their yellow jugs and yellow zip lock ice cream containers. Even though the tour through the plant was on catwalks we still had to wear hairnets. We saw the yellow plastic pellets being melted and then poured into the injection mold machine - 8 seconds later - a yellow jug. We got to see the jugs being filled with milk and containers being filled...

Apr 21, 2011 - 400 Miles!

Well, the coach started up nicely this morning, but I went to Firestone anyway. The guy at the desk there told me the guy I talked to yesterday is new and didn't know that they don't deal with RV issues of any kind. They gave me a number to Travel Country RV back in Valdosta, 20 miles south. That place said they couldn't look at my coach until at least tomorrow and gave me the name of a mobile RV repair guy. Ken came by and determined that the motor for my steps is not working, so I need a new one. He gave me 3 names of places up in Macon...

Oct 15, 2009 - Trip to Seattle

Our very first trip in our brand new RV was from Athens, TN to Seattle, WA and back. We traveled a total of 6372 miles. We drove out along the northern route (I-90) and came back along a southern route (I-40) stopping in Las Vegas and Tunica for several days to "play". It was a real learning experience with the RV. We left TN as novice and came back as seasoned travelers. It was so much fun. We can't wait for our next BIG trip in the spring. In the meantime we plan to do smaller trips around the southeast.
