Nov 30, 2012 - Dry camped in an asphalt parking lot
Dry camped in an asphalt parking lot in Fort Meade, SD (44°24'39.43"N 103°28'13.58"W) for one night. This Army National Guard post is located 1 mile east of Sturgis, SD. When I was serving on active duty with the Army Reserve, I did temporary duty on this post several times.

Aug 20, 2012 - Big disappointment
We unhooked and took the trailer over to the RV place to be fixed. They told us that after the roof is glued down it will have to sit inside over night to dry so we will spend the night in a motel. Which we don't care for but you do what you have to do. Not much telling what this will cost because they will have to take the air conditioner off. While we were there we got to talking to a couple from Texas. They had three great big dogs with them. There RV had developed electrical problems so they were stuck there waiting for it to be...

Aug 16, 2012 - Goodbye Black Hills, Hello Sturgis
On our way to the next stop, we stopped at the motorcycle museum in Sturgis. Yes, Sturgis motorcycle rally was going on while we were in the Black Hills. We arrived on the last day of the rally. Thus the reason for all the motorcycles we kept seeing. Poor Jim was so bummed that he didn't have his bike. Poor guy had a broken heart. Yet, the museum lifted his spirits and now we can say we have been to Sturgis. Just not during the rally. It is a total motorcycle town and the rally has been going on since 1938 when 20 bikes showed up. This...

Aug 10, 2012 - Rapid City & Sturgis, South Dakota
When we last talked, we were closing out our recent tours of Deadwood and other areas near Ellsworth AFB to make room for the postings and photos of the Motorcycle Rally at Sturgis, South Dakota. Before leaving Ellsworth AFB, we did spend a day touring the town of Rapid City. Rapid City was first occupied around 1876, the same time gold fever hit the area. We visited a museum that had one of the original one-room homes from that year still intact. The city’s main attractions now are the bronze statues of all the past presidents scattered...

Aug 6, 2012 - For the male viewer! These are "R" rated ..
OK - I know that some of you have asked for the "good" photos. I think that your request has been answered LOUD and CLEAR. I asked Frank is they looked at anything else other than female body parts - he said yes but these photos say otherwise! I'm working on my "regular" post and that will be up shortly.

Aug 6, 2012 - Bikes and People EVERYWHERE!
It’s amazing what a soak in the hot tub, a shower, a few drinks and a good nights sleep can do for a weary biker! They were up early on Sunday (their internal clocks are on one time and their location is on another). Bikes washed thanks to Frank, breakfast done and they were off. First stop was to Devils Tower. The lines were long but the made it. Then it was off to Sturgis and to take in the sights and boy were there some sights. However, on the ride to Sturgis Lisa spotted a pocketbook in the road so they picked it up. It did have...

Aug 1, 2012 - Sturgis, SD
You can not be in Rapid City and only 30 miles from Sturgis and not go there. Sturgis is know for it's Biker's Rally held in August. Between 300,000 and 500,000 bikers descend upon Sturgis, even though we were there prior to the 6th, the official start of the Rally, there were a lot of Bikers on the highways and in town. It is something that one must see; however, we do not plan to go there when 100,000s of bikers are in town. By the way, Sturgis is listed as 1 of the 1,000 things to see and do before you die.

OK, let's start with last night. As we previously wrote, it rains in the evening, so last night after a few rain drops fell, we figured it was over. After we went to bed, Phyl noticed lights flashing in the distance. It looked like lots of flash bulbs going off, so she got up to investigate and realized it was lightening. Within one minute she counted no less than 30 flashes and lightening streaks. The lightening was so far away, we couldn't even hear the thunder. It was kind of eerie. Never has Phyl witnessed so many strikes in such a...

Saturday 7/14—No Name City RV Park- Sturgis, SD We stopped at Sturgis for a couple of nights. Saturday, we drove around Sturgis, and yes, they are working feverishly getting ready for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in August. Sunday we drove to Deadwood, an old cowboy town where Wild Bill Hickok was killed in a saloon. The town is now filled with casinos, saloons, and other tourist sites. We then drove through Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway and back to the campground. We’re moving on tomorrow to Sundance, Wyoming, to visit Devils Tower.

May 16, 2012 - Mitchel, SD. to Sturgis, SD. and Mount Rushmore
Today we drove I90 from Mitchel, SD. to Sturgis, SD with a side trip to Mount Rushmore Park. The drive was much better today and only had a little wind from the south hitting the side of the camper. Mount Rushmore was great! Took the self guided audio tour and had lunch at the Mount Rushmore cafe. We had Buffalo Burgers! They were great as usual. Tomorrow we will camp in Montana. Jerry & Joanna

Oct 9, 2011 - Greybull, WY to Sturgis, SD
Today was another day of totally unexpected and beautiful surprises! We've both been feeling rather discouraged the last few days, and somewhat burned out on sightseeing. But I think we got our second wind today as we made our way through more gorgeous landscapes! We left Greybull and drove south to Worland, WY, then turned east to head toward South Dakota. We could see the snow-capped Big Horn mountains in the distance, but the temperature was in the 50s and the RV park manager told us that the roads were clear through the mountains. We...

Sep 3, 2011 - VCR Rally
Got up about 8 and packed up so we could get our rig weighed. We are within a percent or two of where we should be so all is good. We then proceeded east on I-90 to the Black Hills of South Dakota. We will be here until Tuesday morning visiting with friends and having a working rally learning more how to do our job as VCR's (Volunteer Club Representatives). Not much to write about. We went out to eat, we stayed in to eat. We had workshops, we washed clothes and most of all we relaxed with good friends. It was a great time.
