Jul 23, 2019 - Day 30

Worthington MN to Mankato MN 1120 miles, 1788 feet of climb, 16.3 average Considering the mileage today was a pretty nice ride. Everything cooperated. The weather was pretty perfect and really no wind at all and relatively flat. Nothing much to look at except lots of soy fields, corn fields and lots of wind turbines. At one point we were on a beautiful sun dappled bike path for maybe 5 miles. Not sure why its there since it seems to be in the middle of nowhere and nobody else on it but really non the less. Tomorrow is another 100 miles...

Sioux Falls SD to Worthington 70.7 miles, 1600 feet of climb and I averaged 15.3 mph Another day and another state. WE entered Minnesota somewhere around mile 20 today. The day began with a beautiful ride on their Cycleway for about 10 miles that followed the river and had many really nice parks along the way. One of the nicest bike paths we have seen. Had a Sag stop at mile 39 and then continued on. WE stopped at Sioux Falls which was really nice and parts of the original flour mill are still there. Apparently this mill used to be 7...

Mitchell to Sioux Falls 71 miles 1680 feet of climb and 13.65 MPH average Today started out with ominous warnings. I turned on the TV and all the channels had a sever storm warning be broadcasted. They talked about high wind advisories with winds at 25-30 mph and gusts to 45 mph. and they were directly against the direction we had to bike. It was not looking good. It rained very hard for about 45 minutes but the winds continued unabated. The ride leaders delayed push off from 7:30 to 8:00 and then to 9:00. By that time the rain had stopped...

Oct 10, 2018 - Our stay in Sioux Falls

Our stay in Sioux Falls is definitely drier today. It is still cool and windy, but manageable. We went out to the USS South Dakota museum just to find out it was closed and closed on the 30th of Sept. Mom and I took some pictures of the artifacts on the outside of the museum and were getting ready to leave and a man approached us and asked if we wanted to go into the museum? We were on it (our private tour). There are lots of items and history from the USS South Dakota. We loved it and I would go back again! Today was not a total lost of a...

2018-08-25.Sioux Falls, SD $1000.00 later and we are on the road again. No one ever said this was an inexpensive hobby but, in a sense, it is our home. We traveled to Sioux Falls, South Dakota through the Loess Hills, a geological feature created by fine soil blown across the countryside; in some places more than 60 feet high. Throughout our route, we passed the sobering sight of tornado sirens across the countryside splitting the otherwise flat topography in each small town. First time we have seen these but obviously, the tornado sirens...

Jul 18, 2018 - South Dakota

Made our way through Missouri, through Iowa, into S. Dakota. We are surrounded by corn fields. Did see a deer outside the campground but it figured it was safe since Mary wasn't driving. Picked up mail from our service and got the tags for the rig. We are staying at Palisades State Park just outside Sioux Falls. Cool place with rock cliffs overlooking a river. Very cool. Still no internet since we pick places in the boonies, so we cruised into town and are using Starbucks free access. Friday we continue our Northern trek to Fargo.

Jul 16, 2018 - Travel to Sioux Falls

Traveled the most miles today, roughly 560. The speed limits are higher now so arrived at about 7:30 PM, even considering we stopped at Wesley Acres (near Valley City) and visited with Brenda. The Nomads team of 9 got a lot of work done in June of this year. We stopped for lunch and had a fine one at a neat family restaurant there. The topography didn’t change much throughout the day. There wasn’t canola but there was corn, soybeans and wheat. Hay was being put up all day along the way. This should be our last night away from home this...

Jul 1, 2018 - Day 24

Day 24 20180701 It rained the entire night. It was still raining when Kurt got up. He took Buck for a long walk since the dog was crated up most of yesterday. When they got back to the RV, Kathy dried Buck off while Kurt peeled out of his soaked Gortex jacket and soaked jeans (adventure 25). Kathy took the dripping items and hung them in the shower. With this being Sunday, we went to church at the same church that the wedding was held since that is Kurt’s sister’s church. Thankfully the rain stopped and the standing water soaked into the...

Day 23 20180630 Today is our niece Hannah’s wedding. Marty and Kathy brought dresses to wear. Now we have to figure out what to do. We have the motorcycles along for emergency transportation. Kathy is willing to ride to the wedding if we get there early so she can change into her dress. Kurt did some research into his accumulated points on his Emerald account with National Car Rental. He found he has 2 free days. He reserved a car for one day. He scheduled it for noon since the wedding isn’t until 3:30. Kurt and Kathy walked to Camping...

Day 22 20180629 0700-1800 4 miles Boyer Trucks in Sioux Falls (where we spent the night) was very nice and accommodating. Kurt went over after they opened. They said they could get the truck in this morning and see where the coolant was leaking from. Kurt filled out contact information. Since the form asked for home phone number, he gave it. He put an asterisk by his cell phone number, he expected them to call that number. They called our home phone and left a voicemail. Three hours later, the scheduler came by the RV (in their parking...
