Jun 16, 2013 - Mount Rushmore puis direction Sioux Falls

Jun 16, 2013 - Sioux Falls
Monday June 10 We are on our way but did not go too far, stopped at about 4 PM at a nice little municipal park in Postville, Iowa. We grilled some steaks on our new “O” grill and enjoyed the quiet country. Oops at 2 am the train came by about 40 feet from the camper blowing it’s whistle. So much for quiet buy I was able to revive Sharon. Tuesday we missed our friends in Cedar Rapids so we went up to Forest City and did the Winnebago factory tour. Jerry the tour guide was very informative and we learned a lot. We stayed at the Grand Falls...

Jun 1, 2013 - Spending time in Sioux Falls
Had another great day in Sioux Falls. Got to sleep in this morning, and boy did we need that! Felt so good. It is rainy and chilly here....reminds us of home/Oregon. :) Jim, Mike's Dad, picked us up around 2:00 today and took us on another driving tour of Sioux Falls. We can tell you, if you know anyone who needs a job, this is the place to be! Jim told us that there is actually a company here that works at trying to recruit workers. There is incredible building going on here!! Not only many, many housing developments, but Sports complexes...

May 31, 2013 - Finally in South Dakota!
Hello from beautiful Sioux Falls, South Dakota!! Seriously, I mean this! It is so green, lush and beautiful here. But first, let's talk about the "getting here." :) And, that starts in Ogallala, Nebraska. We also decided that we love Nebraska!! So many beautiful ponds and green, green everywhere!! It did not look like at all the memories that I had in my mind of traveling to Iowa many summers when I was young. Many of my Mom's family were living in Iowa at the time, and as a "kid" I remembered Nebraska to be long and boring! It sure is...

May 29, 2013 - Day 9 Sioux Falls
Today our destination was Sioux Falls, a drive of 348 miles approx 4 hours, 40 minutes. So we were back on the I 90 again today driving straight across South Dakota, the landscape was mainly rolling meadows and it was in this region that the Little House on the Praire was based. Our frst stop was a town called Wall, an old western town with lots to see. We wondered around for about an hour, found the giant jackalope and then got back on track. After leaving Wall we went to the Bad Lands, a native American Indian national park. What a great...

May 26, 2013 - Day 12 : a quiet rest day at Sioux Falls.
Very light day after the long trip yesterday. Taking stock, doing laundry, shopping for food, local sightseeing at Sioux Falls (the actual waterfall). Weather poor - overcast/drizzly all day and much cooler than yesterday. Thunderstorms threatening all day. Spent the afternoon at the Falls which were spectacular after the torrential rain yesterday. Then a night of catching up with Corrie! We have great wifi here and have had a chance to watch a few hours of end-to-end Corrie off You Tube with a HDMI feed from the tablet (the actual cable...

May 25, 2013 - Day 11 : road time again; Rushmore to Sioux Falls
Way the longest road day to date. 612 Km in a straight line (literally). A very windy day, head wind most of the time and strong side gusts the last 100 Km or so. Had a disastrous effect on fuel consumption (less than 10 mpg over the journey) thank goodness diesel is only $3.80 a gallon. Made straight line lane-holding a nightmare too at the end. En route we came across a plains legend - The Wall Drug store. The Wall is the line of hill cliffs which basically meets you as you cross the plains, and looks just like a ... well a wall. The...

Apr 24, 2013 - Wrong Turn Continues!!!
On Saturday, April 20th, we moved to Sioux Falls, SD to avoid bad weather coming from Cheyenne, WY. Well the weather changed, and we got about 6 inches of snow here on Monday with 30 MPH winds out of the north. Tuesday was sunny but only 35 degrees. We made a trip to Mitchell to visit a huge Cabela’s and the Corn Palace. It is essentially a community auditorium which was built in 1892. Early settlers displayed their bounty on the building’s exterior to prove the fertility of the soil and to attract new farmers to the area. Each year, a new...

Mar 20, 2013 - South Dakota
I left early today because it was cold! (My furnace hasn't worked since Day 3 of the trip. It's one of the many things they have to fix, back where I bought it.) So, I was probably on the road about 9:00 and headed west and, for the last half day, north. As a result, I traveled through parts of Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa and finally South Dakota where I found a Walmart in Sioux Falls. The temperature varied from -2 to +2 and the sky was sunny all day, so I assume I'm in a high pressure area. I hope it holds. Tomorrow I'll head west on...

Dec 4, 2012 - On our way!
Well we made it to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. We left Indian Head by 6:30am and headed for Ogema. Since the roads were so bad on the weekend Don's family was unable to make it to our place so we decided to make a very quick stop to say goodbye to Don's Mom. The roads in Saskatchewan were okay and once we hit North Dakota they were perfect. There is very little snow anywhere we have been. The temperature here is -3C at the moment. The temperature in Mission TX is 23C - can't wait. Tomorrow we hope to be gone by 6:30am and hope to arrive at...

Sep 12, 2012 - On The Way Home, Day 2, Gillette Wyoming to Sioux Falls South Dakota
9-12 On The Way Home, Day 2, Gillette Wyoming to Sioux Falls South Dakota AM Sunny And 46 Degrees, Noon 71, 5 PM 64, 7 PM 58 Degrees Stayed at Yogi Bear Camp Resort And the road goes east! This morning we saw a few scattered small oil wells, an old fashioned windmill, and a large mining operation of some kind, but we couldn’t tell what they were mining. Again, the land was full of grass, hay, and sagebrush, free range cattle and horses, and pronghorn. Still wide open ranch land! Occasionally we would see a road through the plains. There was...
