Oct 8, 2018 - Snowy day adventure

Today we woke up to a dusting of snow and it was snowing. The snow was sticking, but not to bad. We decided to keep our plans and visit Crazy Horse Monument. The roads were not to bad, the fog was pretty high so all was good we just had to deal with the snow flurries and the rain. The monument was pretty in cool, we learned a lot about what it was all about. We got to see a portion of an Indian dance and that was pretty cool also. We were able to get to the monument viewing platform for just. We 5 cans of food. Pretty cheap. Probly the only...

Aug 7, 2015 - A stop at Ellsworth, AFB

Today we found ourselves near Rapid City, SD where Brandon will fly into tomorrow, and we decided to stop and spend the night at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Piedmont, SD located just a few miles from Rapid City. There are certain military bases that have RV sites located on them, called FamCamps, short for Family Camps. They offer sites for RVs for Active Duty personnel who may be on change of station orders. These sites are also available to retired military personnel with proper identification. The cost of staying at these sites is...

Jul 27, 2014 - Piedmont Flea Market

We visited one of the most unusual Flea Markets, it is located off of Interstate 90 in Piedmont, South Dakota on High Planes Place. We saw it while riding by and had to make a quick stop. We didn’t purchase anything but we certainly enjoyed looking at all the unusual items for sale. They had everything you can think of from elk antlers, burrs, bear legs and heads and elk jaws. The only item I would have loved was the sheepskin rugs if I had a huge fireplace to put it in front of. They also had grab bags for sale for $5. I can only imagine...

Aug 16, 2010 - Black Hills Petrified Forest

Today we decided to check out one of the less popular of the tourist places, the Petrified Forest. We found it listed in the tourist info book from the state of South Dakota and it wasn't too far away, being near the town of Piedmont. We paid our $6 per person fee (no discounts for us here!!!) and started our tour by watching a short film on the geology of the Black Hills and touring the small private museum. The museum was full of petrified wood, and rocks and fossils, including a very large turtle fossil. Then we headed outdoors on a...
