Jul 27, 2016 - Oasis Campground

We got another early start, pulled out of Devils Tower KOA at 7:20. Crossed another time zone coming back east and are now in the central time zone. Pulled in the Oasis Campground at 3 o'clock local time and 89.6 F. At least half the drive was fighting a cross wind and don't forget the road construction. Most of Interstate 90 is 80 MPH speed limit, slowing down to 65 MPH in the construction zones. Wouldn't see that in Canada eh!

Sep 13, 2014 - DAY 21

Todays ride was 113 miles 3100 ft climbing. We had to ride to breakfast and back to add 3 miles. We usually eat in Hotel but this was a small hotel so we biked to a local restaurant. It was cold - under 40 - but warmed to 65 by end of the day. I wear everything I can find on a cold morning - Makes it hard to ride. There are support vehicles along the way so it is easy to shed extra clothes every 15 to 20 miles. We are in South Dakota so today we were riding in Dances With Wolves territory. That's what it looked like grassy plains. I have...

Blues Brothers Trip

Oct 19, 2012 - Oacoma, South Dakota

After spending three windy, rainy nights in Brandon (Sioux Falls) the rain finally stopped on Friday morning. We left the park and headed west into a 20-25mph headwind all the way to the Oasis Campground in Oacoma. It took us almost three hours when normally it would have been around two and a half hours. By the time we got to Oacoma, the sky had cleared and it turned out to be a beautiful afternoon. The RV park was full of hunters all dressed in camo. I asked someone what they were hunting and found out that Saturday was opening day for...

Aug 20, 2012 - Following Lewis and Clark and how old is he?

August 19th, 2012 Kind of a special day for Frank..not only his birthday, but it was also his Mom’s birthday. She would have turned 81 today and would have been just fine..probably reading this blog like all of you. Well, despite that, it was a fine day to begin Frank’s 7th decade..ouch.. We left Sioux Falls on another beautiful day and headed West on I-90. We have been on I-90 before but in New York..so, I guess if you make a wrong turn you can get seriously lost and end out in South Dakota.. But we made the right turn. Headed to a small...

Jul 27, 2012 - Oasis RV Park, Oacoma, SD

We stopped in Mitchell, SD to see the Corn Palace, it is an arena that is decorated each year with corn husks, flax and Corn stocks. The murals are exquisite. The temp is in the high 90s, as has been the past week along our journey. Still the drive is filled with lots of farm land....

Jul 2, 2012 - Leaving Custer & Wall Drug

Lee Ann and I went to the U.S. Post Office this morning to check to see if a package arrived. The air was hazy and smelled of smoke. We found out that the Newcastle area west of Custle had a forest fire. This is such a devastating summer for fires, as we all are aware of the thousands of acres and hundreds of homes lost to the Colorado fires. There are signs everywhere we were today showing the high danger for fires. We can only pray that they are able to contain them quickly. We left Custer today with heavy hearts because we are leaving...

Yippee Tyo's!

Aug 25, 2011 - On our way to South Dakota

Bailey, Amberlea, Donovan and I took a short walk before we headed out of the park this morning. We saw a few birds that looked like parrots, two millipedes, a shrew, at least 3 great blue herons, cicadas and a chipmunk. Donovan found a dead cicada which he has packed up in a little container to bring home. He is pretty thrilled about his discovery. On our walk we found out that we were camped right beside Cedar River and first thing in the morning was apparently a good time for a walk. During our drive we discovered the Green Giant in Blue...

Oct 12, 2010 - Al's Oasis

Got to the Missouri River and decided to stay the night at Al's Oasis. Al's is known for its pie and ice cream and I must say Mother proved the point, can't begin to tell you how many pieces she had. Roger and Kay's tomorrow where the fun starts and the eating really begins.

Jul 17, 2010 - Oacoma, South Dakota

I thought we would be going into more cooler weather, how wrong I was. It was into the 90's and even with the A/C in the truck it still was warm. We got into our hook-up spot and the first thing I did was hook up the power cord so Uschi could turn on the air conditioner. Needless to say it didn't take me long to hook up the rest of the stuff. after replishing my lost liquids in my system I took a 5 minute walk to Al's little shopping center with my backpack and did a little shopping and picked up some Buffalo Burger's. Uschi didn't think...

Jun 1, 2010 - Al's Oasis RV Park, Oacoma, South Dakota

Would not give this place the rating that Good Sam's did! Nice people but the park itself was at most a 5 or 6, not an 8. We were given a drive through site close to the highway. The site had a big hole in the drive, they had had a lot of rain so will give them that excuse. We asked to be moved to another site, this time we asked for site 54. OK for an overnight. Bruce got to talking to the couple that pulled up next to us and she invited us to walk up to the tourist trap gift shop that is part of Al's. She said that it used to be a very...
