Aug 15, 2011 - Very Cool Bike Ride
Went for a great bike ride along the Missouri! I took a winding unpaved road up into the fields above the river and kicked up a doe and three fawns as well as a grouse. The view and weather were perfect. The Lewis and Clark sites in Pierre (pronounced "peer" for those of us who didn't learn that in grade school) were all closed because of the flooding. In 1804 the Sioux were the most powerful tribe on the Plains and the Teton Sioux were hostile. The explorers were greatly outnumbered and a standoff between the two groups came to drawn...

Sep 27, 2009 - Lake Hiddenwood, SD
After enjoying the afternoon visiting the Werle's, we headed south and knocked off another hundred miles before stopping at a state park in South Dakota. We saw field after field of corn and sunflowers along the way. The park was almost abandoned - just us and one other camper. Jun 2, 2006 - Mobridge, SD
Mile 5183 Mobridge, SD got its name because the guy on the bridge here didn't like spelling out that his location was at the Missouri Bridge - so you get the shorthand "Mobridge". It's amazing how much rain is missing in this area. The campground we stayed in is on a lake off the Missouri River. The lake is down 38 feet this year; almost an unbelievable volume of water. Mobridge is one of the burial places of Sitting Bull. There seems to be some controversy as to where he really is buried, as you might be able to see from the graffiti on...
