Jun 17, 2013 - Lake Vermillion Recreation Area

Last night we were in NW MO at Lewis and Clark State Park. We were less than impressed, though the birdsong there was phenomenal. We went on a wild goose chase to the closest Walmart (yes, I'm afraid so) because we missed a turn and then Google Maps goofed us and sent us off into farmland. We did get a most excellent photo out of this little diversion, though, and we did eventually find the Wal, get our stuff, and a salad dinner that wasn't too shabby. It was warm and sticky there and very buggy. And there were trains going by less than a...

May 4, 2013 - Stomsburg, NE and heading North to Lake Vermillion

We woke up this morning and it was clear and 37. They are saying a chance of rain but it seemed like it will stay East of us. So we decided to pull out and try to make it on to Yankton, SD. We stopped on the square and ate breakfast at the Corner Cafe. We then walked over to the square where there were tulips blooming and other flowers. They had a snow 2 days ago so the flowers looked a lit bit back. We then walked over to the Hometown Grocery Store on the square. After wondering around looking at the different things like "soup in a bag"...

Sep 25, 2011 - Wall Drug

Woke up in the Badlands-epic. Took sunrise shots, very tired! Had breakfast with a panoramic view which just seemed fake, sometimes we cannot believe we are doing this... After breakfast we took a spontaneous hike in the Badlands and we heard a really cool bird call, like one we have never heard before. It kind of sounded like someone locking a very expensive car with a key fab. Kinda backwards having to describe something occurring naturally in nature using technology as a reference... Goodbye Badlands, hello Wall Drug, SD. You've all...

Sep 24, 2011 - Corn Palace and the Badlands

After having the worst bathroom experience ever (the self-flushing toilets were more than a touch overzealous) TMI? Sorry We didn't get on the road until noon after having been up so late last night but we made it to Mitchell, South Dakota home of the Corn Palace! So, to explain, the Corn Palace is the town of Mitchell's Civic Center and the entire outside of the building is covered in a mural made out of...yup you guessed it...CORN! All different types of corn, black corn, golden corn, white corn you name it, they used it up there. And to...

Sep 23, 2011 - So long Minnesota...

Waking up at 5:30 to get Blackbird fixed again, don't want to be late again. Need-sleep- There was no traffic this way so we arrived at 6:15 which is funny. So we ate breakfast at home and laid down for a little while longer until we got up to bring Blackbird into the service bay. We stayed a while at the service lounge which offered free WIFI and some news on the television. We haven't seen much news lately, we don't have TV and certainly don't have any time to read it on the internet or in the papers, so this was a treat. I guess that it...
