May 15, 2015 - Last full day at Triple Tree Aerodrome

5-15-15 Last full day at “The Nall”, SC The place is really rocking now as the weekend crowd begins to pour into TTA. The flight lines are already doing a brisk business at 7AM. Went into Woodruff after breakfast to get on line at McDonald’s to post updates to this journal and also to take care of other business that requires a WiFi connection. A friend of mine in Anchorage said I should stop screwing around and get WiFi either from a plug-in card or a “tether” to my fabulous iPhone. He also said I should stop being such a “cheapskate”...

May 14, 2015 - AMA meeting day at TTA, SC

5-14-15 TTA, SC Thursday, AMA meeting day My first mission of the day was to find a “Horizon Hobbies” guy to help me sort out the set up problems with my new toy. Found a young fellow at the booth who helped me reprogram my radio and got things working within 30 seconds. These young kids… (these old guys with new technology!) Tom, Julie, and I walked down to the main flight line to watch the “Noon Demos.” It’s always fun to watch the best pilots in the world fly state of the art, very beautiful (and expensive) airplanes and helicopters,...

May 13, 2015 - A side trip into Woodruff

5-13-15 TTA, SC (Wednesday) We decided to head into Woodruff early to find propane. We got the Winnebago ready to roll and all of our neighbors were looking concerned. We assured them they had not somehow offended us and we would return. We knew things would start to get crazy at Triple Tree Aerodrome today as more and more people are arriving so the early start was necessary. Turns out Coleman’s Farm Supply had propane which was fortunate. The next stop was either Spartanburg or Greenville further down the road. We also topped off the gas...

May 12, 2015 - TTA, SC Tuesday, Control Line Day

5-12-15 TTA, SC (Tuesday), Control Line Day at "The Nall" Today we were in no hurry to get up. Just hung out at camp. Tom had texted to say he was on his way so waited for his arrival. Today we were going to get Tom some flying time at “The Nall” so we grabbed the YAK and the “Foamy” and headed out to the flight line. I managed to tear the landing gear off the YAK (again), so we had to fly the foamy instead. At least Tom has flown something at Joe Nall now, will work on getting something with landing gear going for him. Tom and I went on a...

May 11, 2015 - Monday at TTA, SC

5-11-15 TTA, SC (Monday) Got some float flying done early this morning. Conditions were perfect. The sun had just risen, there was a mist on the lake, very little wind, and no other airplanes to avoid. Float flying at its best. Pretty soon, other folks came down to the lake. Time for breakfast. After breakfast and a nice shower, we just hung out a bit and enjoyed the morning. I noticed not very many people were out on the flight line, so I got the YAK 55 out, put on the wings and took her for a spin. I soon discovered why there were not a...

May 10, 2015 - Happy Mother's Day from Triple Tree Aerodrome, SC

5-10-15 A side trip to Greenville, SC, Mother’s Day! As a mother’s day present, I got up early and creeped out to the flight line for dawn patrol with the Fun Cub. Seems that when I wake up, I can’t keep still enough not to wake up Julie. Nobody else on the flight line and no wind. Around 8AM the wind began to kick up. Time for breakfast. Julie and I decided we needed to go into Greenville, SC for urgently needed supplies and a trip to Macy’s. Greenville is a 45 minute drive on secondary highways. We were back in TTA by around 4PM. Took a...

May 9, 2015 - Exploring Triple Tree Aerodrome, Woodruff, SC

5-9-15 Exploring Triple Tree Aerodrome, Woodruff, SC Our first day at Triple Tree Aerodrome (T T A) and we remain impressed. We found the showers and Julie approved. There are plenty of roomy stalls and the water is hot. We got some neighbors as more people are coming in for Joe Nall week. They are Darrell and Lynda from Stone Mountain, GA. They have a couple of very nice Welsh Terriers (Winnie and Murphy) who have made friends with us already. Their parents are nice folks, too. We explored the vast facility. There are flight lines for...

May 8, 2015 - Charleston to Woodruff, SC

5-8-15 Charleston, to Woodruff, SC Today we have until 11AM to clear out of the KOA. Because of a wiring project I needed to do before a week of boon-docking, I used all of our “camp time” and some getting ready to roll. We pulled out at 11:18AM sharp. Because the traffic getting out of the KOA is so terrible, I elected not to hook the Toyota until we were clear of the area of congestion. We hooked up the Toyota on the on-ramp to I-26. Because I was worried about losing Julie as she followed, I took the wrong ramp and we started out in the...
