May 3, 2018 - Still on the road

We had planned to drive straight through from Dunedin, Fl to Hendersonville, NC. about 640 miles. But we both have colds and so we spent last night in Walterboro, SC. Dinner was the salad bar at Ruby Tuesdays. Breakfast came with the room. My first experience with a "pancake maker". You push the button and put your plate at the end of a little conveyor belt. Voila a fresh made pancake and with blueberry syrup. On our way to our next pet sit, we stopped for a late lunch at Mezzaluna. I love this restaurant. Their menu is amazing. We had a...

Jan 10, 2014 - Air Force Bombs South Carolina

Most of today’s run was on US 301 in the rain, but it was warm. We crossed from North Carolina to South Carolina at South of the Border. I really think it’s on its last legs. Not many people at any of the shops, restaurants, or “Pedroland”. Gas stations, motels, and even the “Gentlemen’s Clubs” were closed. I know its January, but you would expect more traffic with people traveling to Florida. We decided to stop for lunch in the “Pedroland” parking lot since there was plenty of room. After lunch we posed for some pictures with some of the...

Apr 23, 2012 - Gettin' Cold

Made it to Walterboro SC last night...in a WallyWorld RV Resort with 14 other RVrs..drove thru some rain but no issues....fueled up right here before we parked for the night..set up satellite...ran out bedroom slide...went in store and bought a sweatshirt...Ivory got some fried chicken, we're eating and drinking and the generator quits. Appears to need a new fuel filter (I hope) Ivory: Why did it stop? MM: I think it's a fuel stoppage Ivory: What does that mean? MM: It means it needs a new fuel filter Ivory: You didn't do that before we...

Apr 10, 2012 - Green Acres RV Park

It is hard to believe I chose my birthday to pull up stakes and head north, but it was a beautiful day. Glenna and I got a decent start at about 9 AM, which is pretty good for us. We traveled north on I-95 to Daytona Beach. We stopped at the track to see if we could find some of the Tony Stewart souvenirs that Willy requested us to look for. It was really quiet at the track. From Daytona we drove north to St Augustine. Glenna enjoyed a couple of hours at one of her favourite outlet malls. We drove across Georgia and into South Carolina....

Oct 29, 2011 - Scary Day

The day started out wet and cold in North Carolina and ended in South Carolina with a beautiful sunset and warm temperatures. In between we had a scary experience. I decided to leave I95 and drive on US 301 for some variety. I always like to see what gas stations, motels, and other roadside sights are still left along the old US highway system. The only problem with the highways is there are lots of intersections and with each one comes the possibility of an accident. Today we had a near miss and I found out that Winnie is a lot more nimble...

2011 Triangle Tour

Apr 11, 2011 - First travel day north

I actually had to get up at 5:45 this morning. Ugh! We had to be at a RV service center by 8:00. They had to replace the freezer door. That's a long story that I won't bore you with! Fortunately, it was an easy fix and we were on our way by 8:40. Cut across from Ocala to Jacksonville area on Rt. 301. Had never been that way before and it was a pleasant drive. Then on I-10, up around Jacksonville on I-295 and connected with I-95. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 miles. Got through GA and about 53 miles north into SC where we've stopped...

Dec 30, 2010 - Snowbirds Take Flight

From New Green Acres RV Park in Walterboro, SC … Thursday, December 30, 2010 We had another busy and long day, but we are finally ON THE ROAD AGAIN! After leaving home and saying goodbye to our snow covered mountain retreat, we stopped for a bite to eat at Bojangles before we hitched up the fifth wheel. Then we fueled both vehicles. Charlie driving the truck, of course, and me in my little car. We paid $2.18 for diesel at Kroger this morning. Ok, before you get too excited, we had earned so many Kroger fuel points, that we got a $1.00 off...

On the Road Again

Jan 8, 2010 - We're in Walterboro, SC

From New Green Acres RV Park in Walterboro, SC ... Well, we did it! We finally got on the road today. We got up at 6:15am and it took us until after 9:00 to get everything done at the house and the truck packed. Once again, we left home with another truckload of "stuff" to pack in the RV. We just hoped that it would all fit once we got everything settled. We fueled the truck with diesel in Rocky Mount before arriving at Storage City. We then had the pleasure of getting out and getting everything moved into the RV, hitching up to the...

On the Road Again

May 4, 2009 - Day 1 - Walterboro, SC

May 4, 2009 / Monday Ok - it's 8:56am and we're off. Believe it or not, we were 4 minutes early on take-off! No arguments or bad language, just a small "oops" on my part. The trailer was attached to the truck and I "thought" I was raising the jacks on the 5th wheel so we could pull away, but John, in his infinite wisdom, said "you're raising the trailer". "NAH", I said. Well, OOPS, he was right (and I hate that). I was really lowering the jacks even more. :-) The problem being instantly corrected, off we went. It's good to be finally going,...

Mar 9, 2009 - Walterboro, SC - A Short Drive

Today was a lovely day and we’re savoring every minute of it because we’re heading for cold and wet weather ahead. We planned an easy, short drive to Walterboro, SC, right on I-95. About 110 miles took us through the southern end of Georgia; it seemed most of I-95 through Georgia is under re-construction. We stopped at the SC Visitor Center to get some tourist propaganda, a walk for Foxy, and an early lunch. Then, we had a short run of about 50 miles to Walterboro. The campground is nice but there are huge pine trees everywhere, a challenge...

Oct 21, 2008 - One More Day to go

Not a lot to report, except we did roughly another 500 miles and ended up staying at the New Green Acres RV Park in Walterboro, SC off I-95. We expect to be home mid afternoon tomorrow. We had great fall colors most of the day, but about 3 this afternoon we saw our first palm tree and instead of fall colors, the road medians and ditches were full of wild flowers. Looking forward to the last day on the road. Glad you came along for the ride.
