Apr 27, 2019 - Summerton, SC

Well, I spoke too soon. Weather was great once again, but we found the traffic. Due to the issue of finding campground space we've made reservations for the next couple nights. Not too much to say. Palmetto Shores RV Resort has a great spot on Lake Marion and even has a full service restaurant within walking distance right on the lake. We had a nice dinner watching the boats and the sunset.

Winter2018-2019

May 8, 2018 - Palmetto Shores RV Resort (4/29/18)

We left Baconton on Sunday, April 29th. We had a couple of days to get to Virginia Beach. Except for a couple of places where there was road work and major slow downs (about an hour's worth), it was a pretty easy drive. We decided to stay in Summerton, SC. The Palmetto Shores RV Resort got mixed reviews with many stating that the sites were too close. The park is on Lake Marion and right off I-95. It is very conveniently located. It is quite a large park and has sites for long term campers. We found it to be a very lovely park and...

Nov 6, 2017 - Summerton, SC - Palmetto Shores RV Resort

Our journey from Gaffney to Summerton, SC encompassed 180 miles of almost all I-85, I-26, and I-95, all of which were very busy which made for a tiresome drive, especially since we didn't leave the Freightliner Service Center until 2:00 p.m. It took Freightliner six hours, including lunch time, to change all fluids and filters in the Mothership - coolant, transmission, engine oil, oil and fuel filter, differential, as well as air filter and air dryer overhaul. The annual service on the generator was also performed and they changed both the...

Dec 30, 2016 - Summerton, SC

Friday and the traffic is heavy. Reports are that further down in South Carolina traffic is at a standstill on I-95. After a search we find room in Palmetto Shores RV Resort in Summerton, SC. There's not much around here but it will do for tonight. Night time temperatures are still down around freezing. We're hoping Florida is going to be warmer. The check engine light was reset and hasn't returned so that's good news. We've narrowed down the windshield wiper problem to be a bad motor. Today was another 5 hours and 275 miles.

Oct 5, 2010 - Day Twenty Four - Virginia, North Carolina & South Carolina

Hi Guys, What a fun day we had today as we continued our drive down through the southern states. After leaving the RV park at around 9.30am we traveled for a couple of hours before stopping for lunch in the city of Selma, North Carolina. After looking around at our choices we decided to try our luck at a place called, Carolina Barbeque and Chicken. Once we sat down and went over the normal guess what accent game they all like to play, they never get it right though ,they all think where poms, I decided on the shrimp, but as usual Pistol...

Oct 25, 2009 - Summerton, SC (Big Water)

Summerton, SC (10-11 thru 10-25) We arrived at the Big Water RV Resort in Summerton, SC on October 11. The resort is located on the shores of Lake Marion which is part of the Santee Cooper project. The Santee Cooper is well known for holding several world fishing records. The Santee Dam across the Santee River impounded Lake Marion in 1942. It was found that the striped bass that came up the Cooper River from the ocean to spawn entered Lake Moultrie through a lock and became trapped and landlocked; therefore could not return to the sea. By...

Nov 10, 2008 - Finally, we see sun !!!

We arrived at Big Water Campground about 12:30 after a 120 mile drive this morning and it was a pleasant short drive. Moves like this one are not bad at all. The campground is nice and now we have a bright sunny site. We were assigned site #6 and for some unknown reason we pulled into site #7 and unhitched and was almost set up and I realized that we screwed up. I walked up to the check in station and asked if that would be OK but she said #7 was reserved and we had site #6. Bummer, I went back and hitched up and moved to our site. We...
