Oct 11, 2012 - House on Market -

For the past month we have been back at Crooked Creek Campground in Seneca, SC. There has not been much to write about as we have been cleaning, getting rid of junk (Where does it all come from?) and in general getting the house ready for market. It goes on the market this weekend, so please keep your fingers crossed. We leave Sunday for Destin, Florida for a month of relaxing and eating seafood. We will also be attending the wedding of a very good friend's daughter. I think it will be the first time in three months that I will have a...

Sep 8, 2012 - Carl Sandburg House

We took a ride over to Hendersonville, NC to visit the historic Carl Sandburg house and farm. The 250 acre farm sits high in the Carolina Mountains with spectacular views from various rooms in the house. Sandburg was already famous as a minstrel, poet, and biographer of Abraham Lincoln, when his family moved here from Michigan. This estate was chosen because of its seclusion for Sandburg’s writings and its ample space for raising Mrs. Sandburg’s prize winning goats, which continues today. The Sandburg family sold the property to the...

Sep 7, 2012 - Blue Ridge Parkway

During our five weeks in the NC mountains, we made several trips up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. We have now visited approximately 30% of the parkway (from about milepost 290 through 412) where we found many of the views spectacular, which our photography does not replicate very well. Some of the specific places we visited are: • Moses Cone Memorial Park – Moses Cone was a pioneer in the denim industry and donated his summer house, Flat Top Manor, to the National Park Service. The house was elegant and the property spectacular. The Parkway...

Jul 22, 2012 - What We Have Learned

Well, Friday it's been thirty days since we took possession of the Cat Nap Inn. It has been quite a learning experience. Here are just a few of the things that we learned about our new home: • You cannot drive the coach with the levelers down – I tried and thankfully there was no damage, Whew! • With a 150 gallon fuel tank, you see numbers on the pump that you never imagined. • When fueling, you need to go to the truck side even at Flying J that has RV pumps – it is just too crowded on the car and RV Side. At one, Stephanie said “let’s...

Jul 9, 2012 - Back in the Upstate, SC

Well driving school is completed and I think we both did well. For those of you that did not know - road lanes are 8, 10, and 12 feet wide and the coach when being driven is 8' wide. On Stephanie's first drive the instructor took her to a rural road with 8' lanes. He did not know that they were paving one lane so she had to negotiate around road cones, workers everywhere and cross a narrow bridge. She did a great job, but I am not sure she took a breath going over the bridge. We will be in the area for the next month as we get the house...

Sep 14, 2007 - West Union, SC - Crooked Creek

On Sept. 14, 2007 we arrive at Crooked Creek RV Resort on Lake Keowee near Seneca, SC Our trip south found us returning to a number of RV Parks that we stayed at the previous fall. It just seemed to fit our travel schedule. Anyway by the time we arrived at Crooked Creek I was surprised how exhausted I was from all the driving/traveling in a little over a week. Our site at Crooked Creek offers a beautiful view of the Lake. The weather is just fabulous. We make contact with our friends, Buddy & Vickie and they come for a visit. It is great to...
