Jun 28, 2018 - Day 30 - North Myrtle Beach SC

Beach Day! Can't remember the last time I've been swimming in the Atlantic Ocean. We drove down to North Myrtle Beach, had lunch at my brother in laws' (Bub) favorite hang out, Murphy's, right on the beach. Swam in the surf for a couple of hours. Really nice. Went back to the RV park where the grandkids and Wendy hit the pool and Grampa Jim napped. Planned to go to a local fish restaurant for dinner, but it was packed so we went to the Irish Pub next store. Very good food at very reasonable prices. Back to the RV park where Bub joined us...

Summer 2018 Big Trip

Jun 27, 2018 - Day 29 - North Myrtle Beach SC

Laid back day in North Myrtle Beach. RV park is really something. Somebody put a ton of money into this place. Only been open since January. Long, level, widely spaced concrete pads with a fire pit/BBQ and picnic table at each one. Really nice big pool with a large water slide. Beautiful dock area with horseshoe pits, hammocks, and a big two story building that looks like it's designed for outings like corporate get-aways or something. Huge boat storage facility - looks like it could handle a thousand boats. Not cheap ($82/night including...

Summer 2018 Big Trip

Jun 26, 2018 - Day 28 - North Myrtle Beach SC

Idyllic morning at this little RV park. Lake perfectly still. Great walk with the dog and then drive to the auto parts store. Get 2 hair pin clips, 30 cents each, for the tow bar. These should work much better. We all load up in the truck and drive 15 minutes to the home of Wendy's friend's sister to pay our respects. Wendy hadn't told her we had the grandkids with us, so it was a big surprise and brought everyone a smile during this otherwise sad time. Can't get over the timing - one day either way and we would not have been able to make...

Summer 2018 Big Trip

Oct 26, 2017 - North Myrtle Beach

We made a two-day 500-mile journey from Delaware Seashore State Park to Myrtle Breach Travel Park in North Myrtle Beach. We have been here once before. It is a large ocean front park with 50-amp full hookup sites and an open sky. Unfortunately, the satellite dish has broken again. It appears to be the same problem that disabled the dish a year ago and resulted in a 31-day stay at Lazydays while the dish was sent to Iowa for repair. The good news is that the campground appears to have very good wifi.

Dec 16, 2016 - Fine'

Well, it's 100% official. Just Relax is sold. After a 6 hour trial, lifting with a crane to inspect the hull, two mechanics. all hired and paid for by the buyer, JR made us proud - she sold herself. All paperwork complete and money in the bank, the buyers hired a captain to drive her to her new home port in Southport, NC. The delivery captain called me three times and sure loved her. Owners called us today also. Sue Winter and I have been reflecting a lot on our cruising history. More people climb Mt. Everest in a year than make some of the...

Jul 12, 2016 - Salem, Mass to North Myrtle Beach, NC

6/23/16- Salem, Mass: Well, after touring the town for day one, we get a call from home that things are not well. Family is first, so for the second time trying to get to Maine, we are only one day away and must turn around. Since the situation at home is not dire, we decide to bring the boat home versus storing it in New England. This is ok with us, as life throws things at all of us all the time and we must cope. There is no need to fret, just accept what God gives us. There is no reason to feel sorry for ourselves. We have a good life....

Jun 23, 2016 - Old Lyme CT to Salem, Mass

It's been awhile since our last update, but we have been busy tooling around. The past two weeks have been absolutely awesome. 6/20/16: Newport, RI- We just wish we could come back to this town and stay for a week or more. We never expected this much here, even though we did expect to see a nice town. This is definitely the place for the rich and famous. If we have time, we will stop on our way south. Summer mansions all over. We take a trolly tour that kept us bending our necks for 1.5 hours. Our trip here was quite cold today. Wore...

Jun 17, 2016 - Port Washington, NY to Old Lyme, CT

6/14/16: Port Jefferson, NY-Today is an average traveling day, our first - LOL. We have not ever figured out what a normal day of travel, so by default, we decide that today is it. 70F, following winds at 7 kts, full sun, flat seas, and no bad boaters. As we enter the inlet, the fast ferry Bridgeport, CT is behind us. The inlet is fairly narrow and he radios us to move out of his way. John asks him via radio "what side do you want me on" and the ferry captain says "I don't care, just move" At that time, we decide not to continue the...

Jun 13, 2016 - Staten Island to Port Washington, NY

6/11/16- Staten Island to Port Washington, NY: We have one short )less than a day) of weather favorable to leave, so we take advantage of it. Over the past 6 days,, we've only had this one day opportunity. The following three days are craft warnings again. Sue sez, let's leave extra early since winds are to kick up to over 20 by noon with hail predicted and 4' short waves are forecasted for the Sound. We cast off at 0530. John wants coffee, and Sue has it already ready. The waters are calm, and since it is a Saturday and so early, the ferry...

Jun 4, 2016 - Cape May, NJ to Staten Island, NY

5/30/16: Cape May- We spent 5 days here over the Memorial Day weekend. This is one of the best towns to spend this holiday since not only is it a very good marina run by great folks (family run for generations), it is a beautiful town steeped in military and other history. The marina gives all guests a bottle of wine. Famous for its' many stately homes, mostly Victorian, but also Gothic Revival, Italianate, Mansard, Stick, Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, and Shingle. One could argue that Cape May (originally spelled Mey from the Dutch) is the...

May 26, 2016 - Deltaville to Cape May, NJ

5/19: Solomon’s Island- A long 9 hour run to here. Since we spent the summer on the Chesapeake about three years ago, we decided to move along after spending a few days here. We stayed at our normal marina, Calverts, which is a BOATUS sponsor. They still have an old Mercedes courtesy car that we first borrowed in 2006. It still runs fine, but almost everything is worn out. We take it to the store for provisions. The folks who run this place are very nice. The pump out station however, is in a very tight space. John is able to get the boat...

May 17, 2016 - Belhaven, NC to Deltaville, VA

5/11/16: Belhaven to Columbia, NC-We've done this trek many times and it still is a boring run. The 22 mile long Alligator River/Pungo canal is straight as an arrow and famous for deadheads. We see them once again, but did not hit any this time. At the end of the canal, is the Alligator River which is wide and also long and boring. John has his taste buds set for a fresh veggie supper and some of Annette's famous fried chicken at the Alligator River marina owned by Miss Wanda. It's really a cool place. As one comes up the river, the swing...
