Jan 21, 2011 - An extra day in Fayetteville

I had to spend an extra day in Fayetteville, but Winnie's got a new pair of shoes and I've got a lighter wallet. It turns out the toe-in of the front tires was way out of wack causing them to wear prematurely. I learned an expensive lesson that it's cheaper to get the front end aligned every year than it is to replace 2 tires. I can feel the difference in how Winnie steers, now that the front end has been alinged. If you ever need tires or suspension work when you are in the Fayetteville area, Black's Tire Service is great. Friendly people,...

Dec 14, 2008 - The Road Less Traveled

WOW everyone, it has been less than a year since we were in the Rio Grande Valley and we can hardly wait to get there again. The wind seems to be always blowing there and the palm trees rustle and drop their fronds. I've been told there are wild parakeets in the trees, but I never saw any last year. This year I have binoculars and I'm going to visit the many birding centers since the valley is in the migratory path of many different birds and we will be there during their migrating back to North America. Yesterday I was full of anxiety all...

Jan 30, 2007 - Summerton South Carolina, Big Water Resort - Lake Marion area Elev 37 ft

We arrived in Summerton SC around 2pm today with the sun shining brightly. Unusually cold temperatures in the south have kept the nights in the 20's but the sun warms things up each morning. There are only 3 coaches in this park so far, kind of odd as it is a nice park right on Lake Marion. Lake Marion is known for its fishing and recreational attractions and its perimeter is 315 miles. They pull 5 foot long catfish out of the lake plus bass, rockfish and crappie. It is called the Santee Cooper area of SC and has a huge wildlife refugee. We...

Nov 19, 2006 - Experiencing the South

Today's journey (11/17) is taking us east of the Shenandoah National Park through rolling hills and probably the foothills of the Shenandoah Mountains on our way to Enfield (near Rocky Mount) North Carolina. We followed Interstate 66 crossing the Shenandoah River then onto Route 17 through beautiful horse and sheep farms, admiring the rolling, carved mountains to our west. This is clearly farm country. As we pass cows grazing, I remember that when we were kids, we used to moo at the cows from the car windows, hoping they would respond with...

Jul 25, 2006 - Manning

We left Orlando this morning at 10:30am on the 25th July in our hire car, a massive Buick le Sabre, it had a full tank when we left Orlando, we drove for 9 hours and covered 400miles, before we decided to look for a hotel, we ended up in Manning, South Carolina. We fuelled the car and got a hotel for the night. i saw that the hotel gave discounts for AAA members (American Automobile Association), i showed her my UK AA card, she said it didnt count, but she gave us a discount anyhow :) (just shows it always worth trying!)
