Dec 21, 2012 - Mom's 87th Birthday Today
Hi everybody! Well, we spent the night at the "BARNYARD" RV Park in Lexington, SC. Very nice park with spacious lots and reasonable prices, only $25. It started raining as soon as we arrived and we had heavy showers until about 11pm. We woke up to high winds and cold temperatures! BRRRR.... Now we are on Interstate 20 almost to Augusta, GA and Clinton is wrestling with the steering wheel in these winds and gusts! We keep thinking about the RV that was turned over by the wind on its way to Harlingen a few years ago. It caught on fire and a...

May 12, 2012 - Headed to South Carolina
#31 5/12/12 We left Georgia today and headed into South Carolina. We headed to Congaree National Park. It was an interesting trip through some nice countryside, off of the interstate! We go to the park and checked out the visitors center. You can't drive in the park except to the center. Everything is strickly hiking in, consequently, we didn't get to see much. I took a few pictures, mainly to show how big the trees can get. This place is unique because the trees are growing in a swampland. 194 miles today Sorry I couldn't post on time, had...

Dec 2, 2010 - OTRA - SC - Lexington
12/2/10 Today was predicted to be the first 4-hour drive day that we’ve had for some time so we tried to get off earlier than usual and we did….by 10 minutes! Left the campground on a sunny, non-windy day at 10:20 a.m. West on SR 301 to I-95, south on I-95 to I-20 to I-26 to Route 1 to the campground. Another easy (but somewhat boring) day of driving. The interstates are great for getting you somewhere in a hurry and they do go through some pretty country but they can be so boring….except when you’re within 100 miles of South Carolina, you...

Nov 18, 2010 - Lexington, SC (suburb of Columbia, SC)
11/17 to 11/18/2010 We drove to Lexington, SC (suburb of Columbia, SC) Wednesday to spend a couple nights. This is just a rest stop; we are heading to Hardeeville, SC Friday, just a few miles north of Savannah, GA. We plan to be there through Thanksgiving weekend, and maybe longer to see the sites. Temperatures are supposed to be in the 70’s for the next week. Do you suppose we could get Paula Deen to come up there from Savannah to cook us Thanksgiving dinner? LOL No Photos here.

Aug 16, 2010 - Leaving No. Carolina
We got up early hooked up the 5th-wheel, jumped in & started the truck. Pretty normal so far....BUT.....Pete found that the controller for the trailer brakes was not working, now thats a big probelm. So, off to Indian Trail for repairs at Rowells (they are the facility that had just replaced the brain for the exhaust brake less than a week earlier. So the repair turned into an all day affair, we left Rowells at 3:00pm & headed up the highway. Our destination was the Barnyard RV Park in Lexington, So. Carolina.

Done and seen so much, but also left much to see. Our great country is BIG and BEAUTIFUL!!! We are thankful for the opportunity to travel and see what we've seen; for the beautiful weather we had and the whole almost uneventful safe trip. I've got my work cut out scrapbooking it all now. Thanks for reading our trip journal and God bless you.

May 28, 2010 - May 28, 2010 - Hitting the road
Ready to turn off the computer and get on the road. Head for Columbia, South Carolina John an Leslie met us at the RV to send us off with a nice fare well, miss you already. It is always fun to have someone come and say goodbye. Earl headed for Handy Hugo to load up on Diesel fuel at 2.99 (very cheap after leaving in 2008 paying 5.00/gallon). I met him there to hook up the jeep, and after figuring out the which fuse to remove so the jeep battery would not go dead, we were ready to pull out at 11AM. Headed for Barnyard RV Park in Columbia,...

Oct 15, 2009 - Lexington, SC
This week we are staying at the Barnyard RV Park in Lexington, SC, a suburb of Columbia, SC. This campground is very nice and is half the price of the KOA we stayed at last week. The only wildlife at the campground is a flock of geese. The campground is right next-door to another Barnyard Flea Market so of course we went there on Sunday after we arrived. This one seemed better than the one we went to last week so we spent quite a bit of time there and plan to go back on Saturday. Sunday was a beautiful day to travel but so far the rest of...

Dec 1, 2008 - Lexington, SC - Tony's RV Repair & Barnyard RV Park
We returned to Tony's to have our rear spoiler fixed again, as the fix Tony's made last March did not work. It was an unpleasant visit as the owner was very upset with us because WRV went out of business. He wanted us to pay WRV's bill for work done on our coach under warranty. We did pay for the spoiler fix but not the other work, as his contact was with WRV not us. We understand his frustration, but we are losers on this, too.

Mar 14, 2008 - Lexington, SC - Barn Yard RV & Tony's RV Repair & Service
We returned to Lexington, SC for more work on our coach (rear spoiler needed to be reattached w/body repair and painting as well; water pump was replaced; a radiator hose was rehung; and a few other minor items were fixed). On Saturday, March 15, we had tornado warnings all around us. I dragged Jim and Tigger to the restrooms for cover. Neither of them were happy about it and it turned out to be unnecessary for us, but there was damage both north and south of our location. We moved to Tony's RV on Monday, March 17, and were there for five,...

Feb 17, 2008 - New RV for the Thompson's
We have a new toy - a new (to us) RV! To begin our new journey as "full timers", we left Lexington, SC in January 2008 seeking a different RV for our travels. We had done much research and decided we wanted a good used diesel pusher motor home, with one of our top choices being a Newmar Dutch Star. During our research we had spotted a used 2002 Dutch Star model 4090 in Natchez, Mississippi for sale by an individual. Our research had also pointed us towards PPL, a large RV consignment dealer in Houston, Texas. We figured we could go to Texas...
