May 22, 2018 - Doug Remembers This Place

Leisurely day. We went out to Fort Jackson to look around. Doug spent a LOT of time at Fort Jackson 2003-2009 for work. Wasn't his favorite place to work, but it definitely paid the bills and then some. We went to Maurice's BBQ for lunch. Until today, it was Doug's absolute favorite BBQ. He was quite disappointed today though. Not the same quality or service to which he had become accustomed. Oh well life goes on. Just hung out, so not much to say. In all honesty, I'm kind of resting up for the weekend. The Country 500 has always been a...

May 21, 2018 - Over the Mountains - Day 2

Well, exiting Pigeon River Campground was almost as interesting as entering. Fortunately, the road was a straight shot out, so we hooked the car up down below (in the campground). However, it was a little eerie going up, up, up the quite narrow, gravel road. Doug said it was steeper than the tunnel at Daytona International Speedway. I know it was much more narrow and surrounded and canopied with beautiful trees that could have done some damage to the RV. Doug was not worried and navigated it like a pro. We had another beautiful day for...

May 9, 2018 - Nothing like Home

It is travel day and what a wonderful trip we have had. I am ready to get home and see family, friends, and my house. Ben and I left for Budapest airport at 6:30 for a 9:15 flight to Frankfurt, Germany, Dulles in Washington, DC and then Columbia on United. The rest of our group was flying Air France to Paris and then Delta to Atlanta and then driving to Lexington. They discovered on Monday that Air France is on strike and they had to be re-routed through Amsterdam leaving at 2:20pm instead of 9:45am. They had a long day ahead of them....

Feb 24, 2015 - At the Barnyard

We decided to move further north today after seeing that the rain-sleet-snow line was a little further north than was predicted last night. We're at the Barnyard RV Park in Lexington, SC, just outside of Colombia. We've stayed here 3 or 4 times before because it is fairly convenient for a stopover when heading north or south, it has large pull throughs, and is relatively cheap. It's right next to the Barnyard Flea Market. We haven't been to the flea market yet. Our route took us through Augusta and I had to at least stop by Augusta National...

Sep 26, 2014 - Another Day, Another Lexington

9/26/2014. Friday. Another Day, Another Lexington! 8am and we are on the road heading for South Carolina. But first, I had to make a quick stop at the dump station on the way out of the KOA. I thought I had secured the sewer hose tightly to the RV bib but surprise of all surprises I had to do a brief rendition of the Barker Brown Water Dance as I saw deadly seepage bursting forth in the sewer bay. Yikes! That'll jerk your ass wide awake at 8am. We routed our way south on I81 connecting to I77 and over the top of the Blue Ridge Mountains...

Feb 7, 2014 - Overnight in the Barnyard

We got off to a late start this morning, but it was worth the extra time at Beaver Run. The owner came over and knocked on our door this morning to drop off a couple of freshly baked chocolate cookies. They were still hot when she handed them to me. She said that because we couldn’t make it to the dinner they had last night she thought we might like the dessert. This was one of the most welcoming places we’ve stayed since we started traveling in Winnie. I will make sure to stop at Beaver Run RV park when we are in this part of Georgia...

Jul 17, 2013 - Lexington, SC

18Jul 13 - We are spending the next week at the Barnyard RV Park in Lexington, SC. It is adjacent to the Barnyard Flea Market so that will be on our schedule for the weekend! We stayed here during one of our evacuations from the beach due to a hurricane. We arrived late this afternoon to an extremely hot humid afternoon which made setup difficult. The travel day was challenging to say the least. It seems I20 in Georgia and South Carolina really is some rough road in need of repair. We came up on an overpass where a large piece of metal had...

Dec 21, 2012 - Mom's 87th Birthday Today

Hi everybody! Well, we spent the night at the "BARNYARD" RV Park in Lexington, SC. Very nice park with spacious lots and reasonable prices, only $25. It started raining as soon as we arrived and we had heavy showers until about 11pm. We woke up to high winds and cold temperatures! BRRRR.... Now we are on Interstate 20 almost to Augusta, GA and Clinton is wrestling with the steering wheel in these winds and gusts! We keep thinking about the RV that was turned over by the wind on its way to Harlingen a few years ago. It caught on fire and a...

May 12, 2012 - Headed to South Carolina

#31 5/12/12 We left Georgia today and headed into South Carolina. We headed to Congaree National Park. It was an interesting trip through some nice countryside, off of the interstate! We go to the park and checked out the visitors center. You can't drive in the park except to the center. Everything is strickly hiking in, consequently, we didn't get to see much. I took a few pictures, mainly to show how big the trees can get. This place is unique because the trees are growing in a swampland. 194 miles today Sorry I couldn't post on time, had...

Dec 2, 2010 - OTRA - SC - Lexington

12/2/10 Today was predicted to be the first 4-hour drive day that we’ve had for some time so we tried to get off earlier than usual and we did….by 10 minutes! Left the campground on a sunny, non-windy day at 10:20 a.m. West on SR 301 to I-95, south on I-95 to I-20 to I-26 to Route 1 to the campground. Another easy (but somewhat boring) day of driving. The interstates are great for getting you somewhere in a hurry and they do go through some pretty country but they can be so boring….except when you’re within 100 miles of South Carolina, you...

Nov 18, 2010 - Lexington, SC (suburb of Columbia, SC)

11/17 to 11/18/2010 We drove to Lexington, SC (suburb of Columbia, SC) Wednesday to spend a couple nights. This is just a rest stop; we are heading to Hardeeville, SC Friday, just a few miles north of Savannah, GA. We plan to be there through Thanksgiving weekend, and maybe longer to see the sites. Temperatures are supposed to be in the 70’s for the next week. Do you suppose we could get Paula Deen to come up there from Savannah to cook us Thanksgiving dinner? LOL No Photos here.
